Pope Francis slams 'Barbaric Violence' of ISIS | Pope in Istanbul For more Latest and Breaking News Headlines SUBSCRIBE to https://www.youtube.com/user/24X7BreakingNEWS Pope Francis castigated the Islamic State militants on Friday — calling out the terrorists for committing “barbaric violence.” Francis, in a speech to the top cleric in Turkey, said “an extremist and fundamentalist group” had subjected entire communities in Syria and Iraq to “barbaric violence simply because of their ethnic and religious identity.” There was no doubt what group the pontiff was talking about. The Islamic State extremists have murdered and beheaded countless innocents as they have taken over huge swaths of the nations south of Turkey. “Hundreds of thousands of persons have been forced to abandon their homes and countries in order to survive and remain faithful to their religious beliefs,” he said. Francis spoke after a meeting with Turkish President Recep Erdogan, who has been criticized for not doing more to halt the march of the murderous militants. The Pope said military force was justified to stop ISIS’ advance, but called for greater dialogue between Christians and Muslims to end fundamentalism. “Fanaticism and fundamentalism, as well as irrational fears which foster misunderstanding and discrimination, need to be countered by the solidarity of all believers,” he said.
