Bassam would like to show you how the media you're exposed to is affecting your perception of, well, everything. And maybe not in a beneficial way. Hear Bassam share his idea on how we can change the way we interact with our media and each other in a way that allows for far more "truth" to be present. Bassam was born in Egypt, lived in France and England as a child, and immigrated to the US at age 13 as a foreign student. He attended the University of Utah where he completed three degrees in Computer Science as well as an MBA. He started his professional career at a young age, programming professionally at 15, completing his first Master’s degree at 21, and awarded his first patent at 28. Bassam is currently Chief Business Officer at publicly-traded software company inContact where he leads the company’s customer and enterprise operations. During his 4-year tenure with the company, its market capitalization has grown from under $100 million to nearly $600 million. Prior to inContact, Bassam was with many leading-edge technology companies such as Omniture (acquired by Adobe), Siebel Systems (acquired by Oracle), IBM, and Phillips Electronics. Bassam is passionate about helping and mentoring others and sits on a number of civic, non- profit, and start-up technology boards. He feels grateful to be able to call Park City, Utah his adopted hometown but enjoys international travel. Bassam writes frequently on both his personal blog and industry journals covering a broad range of topics from self-improvement to personal finance to business management. Apoi, jurnalisti destepti care faceau emisiuni pentru oameni prosti, iar acum jurnalisti prosti care produc pentru oameni prosti. Prin mass-media din lumea intreaga se transmite o anumita "RELIGIE". Nu este vorba despre ortodoxie, catolicism, islam sau orice alta religie. Ci este mai degraba vorba despre religia sexului, a urii si a violentei. Oamenii se uita la televizor ca si cum ar intra intr-un templu al sexului, crimei si desfraului. Este o indobitocire la scara planetara. Pentru ca in mod normal omul este inclinat spre sex, crima, sange, ura si minciuna, mass-media se intrece in a-i oferi omului ceea ce ii place. Calea Rastignitului pare anormala pentru lumea in care traim: sa-ti iubesti dusmanii si aproapele, sa-ti infranezi poftele, sa-l iubesti pe Domnul Dumnezeu si sa te temi de El. Cine poate sa conduca sau chiar sa manipuleze masele de oameni? Presedintele? Guvernul? Parlamentul? Liderii religiosi? Mass-media? Se spune ca mass-media reprezinta a patra putere in stat. Este oare a patra putere, sau este chiar prima? Un exemplu pozitiv este demisia presedintelui american Richard Nixon. Cand ziarul Washington Post, prin reporterii sai Bob Woodward si Carl Bernstein, a reusit sa dezvaluie ilegalitatile comise de Nixon, acesta a fost silit sa-si dea demisia. Mass-media a fost mai puternica decat presedintele si decat Casa Alba. In acest caz, mass-media a fost in slujba adevarului si a dreptatii. In schimb, un exemplu profund negativ este legalizarea avortului in SUA. Prof. Dr. Bernard Nathanson, fost director al celei mai mari clinici de avorturi din lume, se simte raspunzator pentru 75.000 de avorturi. La o prelegere tinuta la Dublin de catre Prof.Nathanson, cu ocazia modificarii constitutiei Irlandei de Nord, el spunea (citat din cartea "Myriam, de ce plangi? sau trauma avortului" de Pius Stossel, Editura Ariel Timisoara, 1998): "Am fost unul dintre fondatorii unei organizatii nationale care milita pentru legiferarea avortului, numita NARAL (National Association for Reperal of Abortion Law), [...]. Am fondat aceasta organizatie in 1968 [...]. Pe vremea aceea era un act lipsit de un elementar bun simt sa vorbesti despre abrogarea legii care interzicea avorturile. Daca atunci s-ar fi facut un sondaj de opinie, s-ar fi constatat ca 99% dintre americani sunt impotriva avorturilor. Dar iata ca noi, o mana de 4 (patru !!!) oameni, cu un buget foarte mic, am reusit intr-un timp record de numai 2 ani sa abrogam legea care interzicea de 140 de ani avorturile in statul New York. Drept rezultat, New York-ul a devenit capitala avorturilor in SUA. Trei ani mai tarziu, am convins Curtea Suprema sa legalizeze avorturile in toate cele 50 de state ale SUA. Cum am procedat? [...] In 1968, gruparea noastra, NARAL, stia ca daca s-ar fi facut un sondaj de opinie cinstit si minutios in randul americanilor, am fi fost invinsi de la bun inceput. Asa ca am procedat in felul urmator: am realizat niste sondaje de opinie in care intrebarile erau confuze, cu dublu inteles, astfel incat sa putem folosi rezultatele dupa bunul nostru plac. Apoi am inaintat mass-mediei rezultatele, din care reiesea ca 50-60% dintre americani sunt pentru legiferarea avorturilor. Am avut succes adoptand o asemenea tactica. Daca spui publicului ca majoritatea este pentru legalizarea avorturilor si repeti mereu acest lucru, cu timpul fiecare va ajunge sa-si schimbe parerea si sa fie favorabil avortului. In general oamenilor nu le place sa fie in minoritate. Tactica noastra era de a folosi sondaje prelucrate conform intereselor noastre [...] Am facut deci urmatorul pas: am falsificat numarul avorturilor ilegale facute anual in SUA. Stiam ca numarul lor real era de 100.000, dar numarul pe care il raportam mereu era de 1.000.000 [...]. Apoi, desi stiam ca numarul real al femeilor care decedau anual in urma avorturilor ilegale era de 200-250, CIFRA PE CARE O RAPORTAM DESEORI MASS-MEDIEI era de 10.000.
