A drought is an extended period of months or years when a region notes a deficiency in its water supply whether surface or underground water. Generally, this occurs when a region receives consistently below average precipitation. It can have a substantial impact on the ecosystem and agriculture of the affected region. Although droughts can persist for several years, even a short, intense drought can cause significant damage and harm the local economy.
This global phenomenon has a widespread impact on agriculture. Lengthy periods of drought have long been a key trigger for mass migration and played a key role in a number of ongoing migrations and other humanitarian crises in the Horn of Africa and the Sahel.
Periods of drought can have significant environmental, agricultural, health, economic and social consequences. The effect varies according to vulnerability. For example, subsistence farmers are more likely to migrate during drought because they do not have alternative food sources. Areas with populations that depend on as a major food source are more vulnerable to drought-triggered famine.

(You can dam out the water and shut the wind out)
But a man ain't been born who can destroy a drought
There's a hot screaming wind at my door but I just don't care anymore
There's a crop killing drought on the way and my good woman she left me today
Oh she stayed just as long as she could but then the farm has not treated us good
She begged me to pack up and go but then farming is all that I know
You can dam out the water...
She cried as if I were to blame but the Lord knows I can't make it rain
There's a hot screaming sun up in the sky it's so still I can hear the grass die
So I'll wait for the coolness of dark and bear up to this pain in my heart
And I'll pray with the coming of each dawn that this crop killing drought will be gone
The earth is sucked bare by the sun
The empty clouded sky
The dazzling drone of pure heat rings alone
Seeing tears flash dry
On a sailing boat out to sea
Their mouths have all been parched
The .... of land drags the life from their glands
February and March
From a year without rain
From a year without rain
The weather is bare
The weather is bare
The weather is bare of flies
The house is full of dust
The taste of black trees like a tune on the breeze
Thirst that you can trust
The shadows contain no more cool
The windows all let in the heat
Dead things on the road as their insides explode
My hands are full of water and weeds
From a year without rain
From a year without rain
The weather is bare
The weather is bare
You'll never see a dark cloud hanging round me
Now there is only blue skies to surround me
There's never been a gray day since you found me
Everything I touch is turning to gold
Oh, you can colour my world with sunshine yellow each day
Oh, you can colour my world with happiness all the way
Just take the green from the grass and the blue from the sky up above
And if you colour my world just paint it with your love, just colour my world
Just as long as I know you're thinking of me
There'll be a rainbow always up above me
Since I found the one who really loves me
Everything I touch is turning to gold
So you can colour my world with sunshine yellow each day
Oh, you can colour my world with happiness all the way
Just take the green from the grass and the blue from the sky up above
And if you colour my world just paint it with your love, just colour my world
Sunshine yellow
Orange blossoms
Laughing faces
Everywhere, yeah
So you can colour my world with sunshine yellow each day
Oh, you can colour my world with happiness all the way
Just take the green from the grass and the blue from the sky up above
And if you colour my world just paint it with your love, just colour my world
Colour my world
Summer move forward and stitch me the fabric of fall
Wrap life in the brilliance of death to humble us all
How sweet is the day
I'm craving a darkness
As I sit tucked away with my back to the wall
And the taste of dried-up hopes in my mouth
And the landscape of merry and desperate drought
How much longer dear angels
Let winterlight come
And spread your white sheets over my empty house
Summer move forward and leave your heat anchored in dust
Forgotten him, cheated him, painted illusions of lust
Now language escape, fugitive of forgiveness
Leaving as trace only circles of rust
And the taste of dried-up hopes in my mouth
And the landscape of merry and desperate drought
How much longer dear angels
Come break me with ice
Let the water of calm trickle over my doubts
Come let me drown
Angels no fire no salt on the plow
Carry me down
Bury me down
And the taste of dried-up hopes in my mouth
And the landscape of merry and desperate drought
Once I knew myself
And with knowing came love
I would know love again if I had faith enough
Too far is next spring and her jubilant shout
So angels, inside
Nausea comes creeping like a dog
Falling down now and sleeping like a log
The leaders are speaking
In parables and lies
Buy another heaven
Eat the pie in the sky
You say you're sorry
How long
Your words are dried up
Whats wrong
Burn all our eyes shut - maybe
We all are to numb to see
Stop this
Maybe at the wrong time
Start the frenzy
Maybe at the right time
The people are seeking
Dillusion in their eyes
Try to get to heaven
Too proud to cry
We say we're sorry
How long
Our words are dried up
Whats wrong
Burn all our eyes shut - maybe
We all are to numb to see
Look at all the frozen people
Look at all the broken smiles
Torn between two words are all we
Between the fathers and the heart of a child
Between the fathers and the heart of a child
You say you're sorry
How long
You're words are dried up
Whats wrong
Burn all our eyes shut - maybe
We all are to numb to see
Look at all the frozen people
Look at all the broken smiles
Torn between two words are all we
Between the fathers and the heart of a child
Between the fathers and the heart of a child
The lies, they tear apart the lining of your stomach
But I’m more concerned with pulling out your threads
You leave; you’re a crafty machine (and I know where you sleep)
But I think I know your insides more than you know that you’re alive
But I am just your program
I am just coded inside
In this world there is life, love, and loss
Just ask an anxious lover begging in tears for a simple response
But you’ve jaded your worth I’m afraid,
And the past is a wonderful shade
But I won’t feel it, the sky is falling my mind’s just stalling out
Waiting for some coals to shine
You didn’t stop to see the sky,
There was a darkish red late in the light
I knew you would’ve loved it,
Knew you would’ve cared
But now I only stop to think not of the meaning
But the color of all things
You taught me how to see
Watching your heart bend to shape
It’s malleable; I’ve seen it before
Anxious lover, hold your chest out,
Inhale and feel the pain,
The pain that comes with love
Anxious lover, hold your heart out,
Inhale and feel the pain
I don’t know what love is
I see a drought, and I feel its heat
With the basins dried they’ll start to dig underneath
And when the water won’t come they will abandon their books
I have searched so long for sound over meaning
Where others found passion in the pulp of praise
But there’s a drought in my mind, and quench my thirst with lies,
Day we play the kissing game for place a chance for the win but I forgot to never cross my heart the chance to win was never a chance for me blind eyes born from the seed of lies portrayed by two and I see the light it shines on the other side but then I finally find it was just a reflection of you white flag that flies it's set at half mast ties
Symbolizing all that die for the words I love you we pray for that single touch but it cost too much we pay with silent thoughts that make me fear for this day this time I damn the lies I damn those final words and I peaked through that locked door and I saw what was meant for you and I fear that the last false day was never meant for you day we'll live to die for day will never come again day we live to strive for, day will never come again for.
If the river runs dry like it probably will
I'll drink from the well 'till I get my fill
If God likes a joke and I think that he may
We'll both be there laughing at the end of the play
What can I tell you?
The way that they sell you,
Well, you can strike up the band
with the back of her hand, it's alright.
What can I show you,
They think that they know you
Well you can wrap up the show
With all that you know, it's alright
If they come looking for me you can tell them dead
