This classic jazz film was a 1957 CBS TV show which reunited some of the genre s greatest stars for a one-hour performance that was presented with no editing. Includes a final meeting of Billie Holiday and Lester Young. Also included are follow-up shows featuring Miles Davis, Ahmad Jamal and Ben Webster on different sets. An extra bonus is the 1944 short, Jammin the Blues showcasing Lester Young plus the only TV clip of Charlie Parker known to exist.

The Sound of Jazz was a CBS production from 8. December 1957 and ist known for bringing together giants from the swing era of the 1930s. Apart from "Jazz on a Summer's Day" it belongs to the most important classical jazz movies of the 50s.
The combo of the 1930s and 1940s was almost complete except Walter Page who was too ill at the moment of this recording (though he joined the rehearsals the days before he collapsed on his way to the studios and died 2 weeks later). Eddie Jones from the Basie Band took his place. You are watching an excerpt.
