Oldham ( /ˈoʊldəm/) is a large town in Greater Manchester, England. It lies amid the Pennines on elevated ground between the rivers Irk and Medlock, 5.3 miles (8.5 km) south-southeast of Rochdale, and 6.9 miles (11.1 km) northeast of the city of Manchester. Oldham is surrounded by several smaller settlements which together form the Metropolitan Borough of Oldham, of which Oldham is the administrative centre.
Historically a part of Lancashire, and with little early history to speak of, Oldham rose to prominence during the 19th century as an international centre of textile manufacture. It was a boomtown of the Industrial Revolution, and among the first ever industrialised towns, rapidly becoming "one of the most important centres of cotton and textile industries in England". At its zenith, it was the most productive cotton spinning mill town in the world, spinning more cotton than France and Germany combined. Oldham's textile industry began to fall into decline during the mid-20th century, and its last mill closed in 1998.
For Real was an American R&B and soul quartet, that formed in 1993. In the latter part of that decade they were nominated for a Grammy, Billboard Music Award, and Soul Train Music Award.
For Real secured their recording contract by accident. "We were picking up our manager from the airport. So we decided to greet him with an acappella song. Someone from A&M Records just happened to be in the airport and heard them perform. Not long after, they were signed," said Latanyia Baldwin.
The band released their debut album, It's a Natural Thang, with production from Brian McKnight on A&M Records in 1994, and it became a critical success, including a rare four stars from Rolling Stone magazine. Their first single, "You Don't Wanna Miss" hit #28 on the Billboard chart, courtesy of a danceable new jack swing remix by Steve "Silk" Hurley, which was featured in the song's video. A second single, "Easy to Love", peaked at #65 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The album scored another chart hit with the a cappella love song, "You Don't Know Nothin'", which was written and produced by Mervyn Warren, and which peaked at #27. The song peaked at #54 in the UK Singles Chart in July 1995. The album sold over one million copies worldwide, and peaked at #80 on the Billboard 200.
Will Oldham (born January 15, 1970), better known by the stage name Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, is an American singer-songwriter and actor. From 1993 to 1997, he performed and recorded under variations of the Palace name, including the Palace Brothers, Palace Songs, and Palace Music. After releasing material under his own name, he adopted the "Bonnie 'Prince' Billy" moniker for the majority of his output since 1998.
Oldham is known for his "do-it-yourself punk aesthetic and blunt honesty," and his music has been likened to Americana, folk, roots, country, punk, and indie rock. He has been called an "Appalachian post-punk solipsist", with a voice that has been described as "a fragile sort-of warble frittering around haunted melodies in the American folk or country tradition."
Will Oldham first performed and recorded under various permutations of the Palace name, including Palace Brothers, Palace Songs, Palace Music, and simply Palace. Regarding the name changes during this period (1993–1997), Oldham said:

Faz tempo que voce
Nao canta um reggae pra mim
Canta pra mim, bem
Canta pra mim
Tudo, tudo fica blue
Quando estou com você
No swing do Olodum
Dum dum dum dum
Abre alas, acorda minha cor
Abre alas, vem pra janela
Abre alas, o Olodum chegou
Abre alas, que coisa bela
Oh lord
I'd like to know where she is now
If she thinks about me or not
Oh not, Oh lord
I wanna give her all my love
My life, my heart
And please her
I wonder if I'm right?
Or must I try to forget her?
Be near me, darling
I miss you darling
Oh bring me, darling
Your sweet kiss, darling
I thought you were happy with me
But I think I made a mistake
Thinking about it
Darling, am I right or wrong?
Be near me, darling
I miss you darling
Oh bring me, darling
Your sweet kiss, darling
Oh jah! Oh jah!
I'd like to be near her
Oh jah! Oh jah!
I miss and love her
Oh Deus
Eu só gostaria de saber onde ela está agora
Se ela pensa em mim ou não
Oh não, Oh Deus
Eu quero dar-lhe todo o meu amor
Minha vida, meu coração
E por favor a ela
Eu quero estar certo?
Ou devo tentar esquecê-la?
Esteja perto de mim, querida
Eu te perdi, querida
Oh me traz, querida
Seu beijo doce, querida
Eu pensei que você era feliz comigo
Mas eu penso que me enganei
Pensando sobre isso
querida, eu estou certo ou errado?
Esteja perto de mim, querida
Eu te perdi, querida
Oh me traz, querida
Seu beijo doce, querida
Oh Jah! Oh Jah!
Eu gostaria de estar com ela
Oh Jah! Oh Jah!
Eu a perdi e a amo
