Steven Alan Hawley (born December 12, 1951) is a former NASA astronaut who flew on five U.S. Space Shuttle flights. He is professor of physics and astronomy and director of engineering physics at the University of Kansas.
Hawley was born December 12, 1951, in Ottawa, Kansas, to Dr. and Mrs. Bernard Hawley. One of Hawley's brothers, John F. Hawley, is a theoretical astrophysicist at the University of Virginia.
Hawley graduated from Salina High School Central, Salina, Kansas, in 1969; he regards Salina as his home town. Hawley attended the University of Kansas, graduating with highest distinction in 1973 with bachelor of science degrees in physics and in astronomy. He spent three summers employed as a research assistant: 1972 at the U.S. Naval Observatory in Washington, D.C., and 1973 and 1974 at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory in Green Bank, West Virginia. He attended graduate school at Lick Observatory, University of California, Santa Cruz, graduating in 1977 with a doctorate in astronomy and astrophysics.
Hawley may refer to:
Stephen or Steven /ˈstiːvən/ is a masculine first name, derived from the Greek name Στέφανος (Stéfanos), in turn from the Greek word "στέφανος", meaning "wreath, crown, honour, reward", literally "that which surrounds or encompasses". In ancient Greece, a wreath was given to the winner of a contest (from which the crown, symbol of rulers derived). The use of the noun was first recorded in Homer's Iliad. The name is significant to Christians: according to the Book of Acts in the New Testament, Saint Stephen was a deacon who was stoned to death and is regarded as the first Christian martyr. The name has many variants, which include Stephan, Stevan, Stefan and Stevon.
In Middle English, the name Stephen or Stephan was pronounced as a bi-syllabic word — Step-hen or Step-han — much like a Scandinavian surname. Steve was pronounced as it is in Modern English. This etymological usage began a decline in the mid-19th century.
Steve is the common short form, while various diminutives such as Stevie and Ste are also used. Many family names are derived from Stephen: the most common are Stephens/Stevens and Stephenson/Stevenson (others include Stephen, Stephan, Staphan, Stefan, Stevin and Stever).
New York is a state in the Northeastern United States and is the United States' 27th-most extensive, fourth-most populous, and seventh-most densely populated state. New York is bordered by New Jersey and Pennsylvania to the south and Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Vermont to the east. The state has a maritime border in the Atlantic Ocean with Rhode Island, east of Long Island, as well as an international border with the Canadian provinces of Quebec to the north and Ontario to the west and north. The state of New York, with an estimated 19.8 million residents in 2015, is often referred to as New York State to distinguish it from New York City, the state's most populous city and its economic hub.
With an estimated population of nearly 8.5 million in 2014, New York City is the most populous city in the United States and the premier gateway for legal immigration to the United States. The New York City Metropolitan Area is one of the most populous urban agglomerations in the world. New York City is a global city, exerting a significant impact upon commerce, finance, media, art, fashion, research, technology, education, and entertainment, its fast pace defining the term New York minute. The home of the United Nations Headquarters, New York City is an important center for international diplomacy and has been described as the cultural and financial capital of the world, as well as the world's most economically powerful city. New York City makes up over 40% of the population of New York State. Two-thirds of the state's population lives in the New York City Metropolitan Area, and nearly 40% live on Long Island. Both the state and New York City were named for the 17th century Duke of York, future King James II of England. The next four most populous cities in the state are Buffalo, Rochester, Yonkers, and Syracuse, while the state capital is Albany.

Plot: Hearing of a native uprising at the African Copper Mines at Karanga, manager Edmund Daniels and American counsel Jeff Worthing catch an arms-and-ammunition bearing train. Other passengers include Paul Stacco, a sort of native white god expected to settle the rebellion peacefully; Daniels's secretary David Wallace; Dr. Greenleaf and his nurse Julia Garrett; Steve Harley, a young American adventurer; Manek Sen, a mysterious Eurasian; and Slats Breese, an American fight trainer. Daniels is murdered on the train and an investigation reveals that Dr. Greenleaf's real name is one notorious in medical circles, and that Manek Sen is set on killing Hawley to get the latter's treasure maps. Daniel's papers are found in Stacco's possession. Julia is wounded when the natives, under Stacco's orders, attack the train. Later, Jeff exposes Wallace as Daniels' killer, as Daniels had discovered he had been stealing from the mine.

Steve Hawley, Physics & Astronomy, KU Title: “HST at 25: How Astronomy and Engineering United to Change Our Understanding of the Universe” Abstract: April 24 marked the 25th anniversary of the launch of the Hubble Space Telescope. HST has arguably been the single most important scientific instrument ever built. Crucial to its success has been the ability of astronauts to perform maintenance and upgrades while HST remained on orbit. Six Space Shuttle missions were flown between 1990 and 2009 to deploy, service, and upgrade HST as well as to maintain its orbit. I will describe the numerous challenges faced by the HST team since the telescope was authorized by Congress in 1977. I will also highlight some of the ways in which HST has revolutionized our understanding of the universe

[verse: 1]
she said, "i need sometime to find myself,
i need a little space to think.
maybe we should start seeing other people.
baby, things are moving way to fast for me."
so, i, i picked up what was left of my pride,
and i put on my walking shoes,
and i got up on that high road,
and i did what any gentleman would do.
i, um...
[chorus]
i got a brand new girlfriend.
we went and jumped off the deep end,
flew out to LA for the weekend,
spent the whole day, lyin' on the beach,
wearin' nothin' but a smile,
playin' kissy-kissy, smoochy-smoochy,
talkin' mooshy-mooshy bout nothin'.
man, i think im on to somethin',
yano i feel just like a kid again.
i got a brand new girlfriend.
[verse: 2]
i love it when she calls me butter cup,
laughs and says i left the toilet seat up,
she pops and tosses me a cold beer,
and says my buddies always welcome here.
when i get hungry, she takes me out.
i ride the shotgun like a shitzu hound.
my tails a waggin', my tounges hangin' out,
it makes me wanna shout...
[chorus]
wooo...
cute, cute, cute...
she likes to write our names in the sand.
shes hearing wedding bells and making plans.
shes gonna hang around a while i guess.
she hasnt even told me she loves me yet.
[chorus]
she makes me feel just like a kid again,
