My name is Colby Coash and I'm a Republican senator from Lincoln, NE. There's a real impact when we spend a lot of resources trying to execute somebody. It's just costing us money that we can use for victims. We can put it into roads, we can put it into schools. There's much better things we could be spending our money on. I'm not willing to spend one more penny trying to do anything other than let them sit in a cell until they take their last breath, whenever that is. That'll save us money.

First Coash, BFF of Ted Nugent, asked Sen. Sarah Howard, sponsor of LB380, which would allow 2nd parent adoptions in Nebraska, this: Could you and I adopt a baby?
At that point Howard patiently explained to Coash (who was choreographing his "confusion" with flailing hands) that the language of her bill requires compliance with statutory procedures required for adoption (living together, background check, home visit, etc.).
Presumably, Coash could have read this in the bill before the hearing. Apparently he didn't, and also didn't pay attention to Howard's spoon-fed explanation either, because a few minutes later he reasked the question in an even more inanely provocative manner: "I'm not married to Sen. Mark Christensen either. Could we adopt a kid?"
(Coash and Christensen sit next to each other at the Judiciary Committee, if that carries any weight.)
Howard again explained: "You two would have to live together..."
At this point it was crystal clear that Coash was grandstanding.
It's sad that the voters of District 27, comprising a large swath of west, downtown and south Lincoln, whom Coash putatively represents, haven't yet dumped Coash in favor of a better steward of their interests in the Unicameral.

Colby Coash
Colby Coash (born October 29, 1975, in Bassett, Nebraska) is a Nebraska state senator from Lincoln, Nebraska, United States, in the Nebraska Legislature.
State legislature
Coash was elected in 2008 to represent the 27th Nebraska legislative district by just 79 votes. He is the first Republican to hold the seat since 1972. He currently sits on the General Affairs, Judiciary, State-Tribal Relations, and Urban Affairs committees.

Capital punishment
Capital punishment, death penalty or execution is government sanctioned punishment by death. The sentence is referred to as a death sentence. Crimes that can result in a death penalty are known as capital crimes or capital offences, such as first degree murder, terrorism, and espionage. The term capital originates from the Latin capitalis, literally "regarding the head" (referring to execution by beheading). There are many execution methods; one widely practiced form historically that is the most common modern method used in jurisdictions with capital punishment is hanging.
Capital punishment has, in the past, been practiced by most societies, as a punishment for criminals, and political or religious dissidents. Historically, the carrying out of the death sentence was often accompanied by torture, and executions were most often public.
Thirty-six countries actively practice capital punishment, 103 countries have completely abolished it de jure for all crimes, 6 have abolished it for ordinary crimes only (while maintaining it for special circumstances such as war crimes), and 50 have abolished it de facto (have not used it for at least ten years and/or are under moratorium). No Western country still uses the death penalty except the United States.

First Coash, BFF of Ted Nugent, asked Sen. Sarah Howard, sponsor of LB380, which would allow 2nd parent adoptions in Nebraska, this: Could you and I adopt a baby?
At that point Howard patiently explained to Coash (who was choreographing his "confusion" with flailing hands) that the language of her bill requires compliance with statutory procedures required for adoption (living together, background check, home visit, etc.).
Presumably, Coash could have read this in the bill before the hearing. Apparently he didn't, and also didn't pay attention to Howard's spoon-fed explanation either, because a few minutes later he reasked the question in an even more inanely provocative manner: "I'm not married to Sen. Mark Christensen either. Could we adopt a kid?"
(Coash and Christensen sit next to each other at the Judiciary Committee, if that carries any weight.)
Howard again explained: "You two would have to live together..."
At this point it was crystal clear that Coash was grandstanding.
It's sad that the voters of District 27, comprising a large swath of west, downtown and south Lincoln, whom Coash putatively represents, haven't yet dumped Coash in favor of a better steward of their interests in the Unicameral.
