Getting Down to Business in Iraq, Part 1
The Middle East Institute is proud to host Thomas W. Donovan, an expert in Iraqi business law, specializing in international investment. Drawing upon his background as a corporate attorney and managing partner of the Iraq Law Alliance, PLLC, Mr. Donovan will discuss the particular nuances of doing business in post war Iraq and how the 2009 Status of Forces Agreement may change the way in which international investors interact with their Iraqi partners. Mr. Donovan will also provide important insight into some of the problematic legal aspects of the 2009 and 2010 Iraqi Petroleum Bid Rounds. As U.S. military operations in Iraq come to a close, Mr. Donovan will outline the facets of international business and law which may define the next several years of foreign involvement in Iraq.- published: 13 Jul 2010

Analysis: 09.01.14 Iraq : How has it all gone so wrong? Part 1
The United States has announced it will be accelerating its deliveries of military equipment to Iraq. The aim is to help the Iraqi government fight rebel groups in the Anbar province, including al Qaeda-linked militants who, it is claimed, captured positions in Ramadi and large parts of Falluja recently. White House spokesman Jay Carney said: "We're working closely with the Iraqis to develop a holistic strategy to isolate the al Qaeda-affiliated groups, and we have seen some early successes in Ramadi," The takeover of these areas by Sunni protesters and members of the al-Qaida affliated group, Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, will be particularly painful for Americans, as both cities saw some of the most bloody fighting during the US-led occupation. The standoff between the Iraqi army and the insurgents also poses a dilemma for the Obama administration, torn between distaste for Iraqi prime minister Nouri al-Maliki's and a resurgence of al-Qaida in the country. Joining me in the studio is Paul Schulte, Senior Visiting Fellow at Kings College London, Sabhar Al Muktar President of the Arab Lawyers Association, and Dr Zaid Al-Isa, Middle East Political analyst.- published: 10 Jan 2014

Btw If there are people who play racing games watching this video, feel free to check out my new Need For Speed videos ;) "Where to begin! My husband surprised me two days after Mother's Day. I had been bugging him for months about when he would be able to come home, and he had me totally convinced that he was not going to be able to come at all. I had a feeling something was up a few days before because his entire family was coming to town, including his brother Jim (who is also Army and was coming home from Europe). But they all convinced me the surprise was really Jim coming back early, and not my husband coming home. His mom had come to our house for dinner, and I even looked in the back of her pickup for somebody back there... but didn't find him. Little did I know everybody else was parking down the street and getting ready to sneak up to the house. The moment I saw him was just unreal. I remember reaching into my fridge for some drinks and getting up to hand one to my mother-in-law, and then I saw the boots, the uniform, and then the face. It was just complete joy, disbelief and relief, which is why I fell on the floor and sobbed uncontrollably. Anyways, it was the surprise of a lifetime, me and my girls had missed him soooooo much, and it was amazing. We had an amazing R&R;, and our two little girls loved having daddy back. We're reaching the end of the deployment :)"Ever since the American Boy Scouts were organized, the U.S. Army has been one of its best friends and chief boosters. This 1960's THE BIG PICTURE episode, with John Daly as host-narrator, shows us a few of the things the Army has done for the Scouts and some of the things the Scouts have done for the Army. Some of the finest opportunities for American youth to meet and know the youth of other countries have come about through scout get togethers supported by members of our armed forces both here and abroad. One of the highlights of this film is the story of two Scouts, one an American and the other a citizen of Denmark, spending the long winter night as active members of Camp Century, the nuclear-powered military research center which the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers recently built deep under the frozen surface of Greenland. G4S worker beaten in Basra, Iraq - Truthloader
A security guard, working for G4S, has been badly beaten on the Ramaila oilfield near Basra, Iraq. A group of local people accused him of removing flags and pamphlets of Imam Hussein, a figure venerated in Shiite Islam, and attacked the car he was traveling in. G4S are conducting their own investigation into the events surrounding the attack. There were mixed reports after the incident, some suggesting the G4S worker had been killed, however, the company say he escaped with cuts to the head and minor injuries including a broken nose and broken fingers.
