A shack is a type of small house, usually in a state of disrepair. The word may derive from the Nahuatl (Aztec) word xacalli or "adobe house" by way of Mexican Spanish xacal/jacal, which has the same meaning as "shack". It was a common usage among people of Mexican ancestry throughout the U.S. southwest and was picked up by speakers of American English.
An alternative etymology is that shack derives from teach, pronounced chaċ, meaning "house" in Irish Gaelic, which was absorbed into American English from the 1880s onwards. Similarly shanty may have derived from the Gaelic seantigh, prounced shan-tí, meaning "old house", at a time when Irish migrants lived in New York's tenements.
It is possible that up to a billion people worldwide live in shacks. Fire is a key hazard in shack settlements. Shack settlements are also sometimes known as slums or shanty towns.
In Australia, particularly in Tasmania, shacks were originally holiday homes or recreational fishing shelter located on crown land such as beside lakes, along on river banks (especially the Murray River) or near beaches. They were sometimes roughly built but were often quite solid structures where they had to withstand the inclement weather of highland areas. Frequently they had no legal title to the land they were built on. Now, a lot of the shack owners have freehold title to their land, and are subject to building codes to reduce the risk of damage or injury from floods and storms. Many are now quite grand holiday homes and summer houses. There are also fishermen's shacks at places like Wedge-Grey on the Western Australian coast. The New Zealand equivalent is called a bach.
Leslie Edward "Les" Claypool (born September 29, 1963) is an American musician and writer, best known as the lead vocalist and bassist in the band Primus. Claypool's playing style on the electric bass mixes tapping, flamenco-like strumming, whammy bar bends and slapping.
Claypool has also self produced and engineered his solo releases from his own studio "Rancho Relaxo". 2006 saw the release of a full-length feature film Electric Apricot written and directed by Claypool as well as a debut novel South of the Pumphouse.
Claypool was born September 29, 1963 in Richmond, California, but was raised in El Sobrante, California in a working class family with a history of working as auto mechanics. A close family friend, Rhys Hickman, taught him the basics of the slap bass technique, which he mastered throughout his educational period. His early education included Collins Elementary School and De Anza High School, where he was a personal friend of Kirk Hammett.
In 1986, after the death of Metallica bassist Cliff Burton, school friend Kirk Hammett encouraged Claypool to audition for Metallica as Burton's successor. In Metallica's Behind the Music, Claypool said that he jokingly asked the others if they wanted to "jam on some Isley Brothers tunes" during the audition, a reference to his little experience of the thrash metal scene. James Hetfield remarked that Claypool was not awarded the job because "he was too good" and "should do his own thing." Claypool would later admit that he wouldn't have fit in with the band and "would've looked like a freak". The bass slot was instead given to Jason Newsted, who played with Metallica until his departure in 2001. For several years before forming Primus, Claypool worked as a carpenter in El Sobrante. Claypool has cited Larry Graham, Chris Squire, Tony Levin, Geddy Lee, Paul McCartney, Geezer Butler, Bootsy Collins, Stanley Clarke, John Paul Jones, and Sting as his musical influences.

Freddy Krueger: [to Lori] Think you're so smart! Huh, bitch?

[after seeing Jason at the rave]::Kia Waterson: Was that him? The guy you were talking about... Freddy Krueger?::Lori Campbell: No, that wasn't the guy in my dream. That was somebody else.::Charlie Linderman: Who cares about some fucking dream guy, okay? That psycho in the hockey mask was real.::Bill Freeburg: Dude, that goalie was pissed about something.
Freddy Krueger: What's wrong, Lori? Miss your wake-up call?
[first lines]::Freddy Krueger: [narrating] My children... from the very beginning, it was the children who gave me my power. The Springwood Slasher, that's what they called me. My reign of terror was legendary. Dozens of children would fall by my blades. Then the parents of Springwood came for me, taking justice into their own hands. When I was alive, I might have been a little naughty, but after they killed me, I became something much, much worse. The stuff nightmares are made of. The children still feared me, and their fear gave me the power to invade their dreams, and that's when the fun REALLY began. Until they figured out a way to forget about me. To erase me completely. Being dead wasn't a problem, but being forgotten, now that's a BITCH. I can't come back if nobody remembers me. I can't come back if nobody's afraid. I had to search the bowels of Hell, but I found someone, someone who'll make 'em remember. He may get the blood, but I'll get the glory, and that fear is my ticket home.
[after Blake gets away]::Freddy Krueger: [to himself] Not strong enough, yet. Well, I will be soon enough. Until then... I'll let Jason have some fun.
Lori Campbell: Hey. Gibb, what are you doing? I thought you were gonna quit.::Gibb: I only smoke when I drink now.::Kia Waterson: But you're always drinking.::Gibb: Yeah, well, I'll work on that next.
Gibb: You're the one that killed Trey!::Freddy Krueger: Oh, don't worry about my little errand boy. The only thing to fear, is fear himself!::[Gibb stumbles and falls over railing]::Freddy Krueger: Oh.
