Central Asia's first carbon neutral master plan in Baku, Azerbaijan
"Zira Island proposes an architectural landscape derived from the natural landscape of Azerbaijan".
Caucasus has long been called "The Alps of Central Asia". The natural landscape continue to play an important role in present day Azerbaijan. Shaped by the Caucasus Range towards the north and the coastline of the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan is a strategic gateway between east and west full of contrasts and contradictions.
The landscape of Azerbaijan includes many snow-capped peaks exceeding 4.000 meters, lush green valleys towards the south and large swathes of arid semi-desert in between. Just a few hours drive away from timeless mountain villages clad in lush orchards sits the Azerbaijani capital of Baku which in Persian means "the wind swept city" whose medieval center is a UNESCO World Heritage site and home to the Zira Island Master Plan. Caucasus - The Alps of Central Asia. Located within the crescent shaped bay of the capital city Baku, Zira Island includes the Seven Peaks of Azerbaijan which is envisioned to be a sustainable model for urban development, and an iconographic skyline recognizable from the city's coastline. The Seven Peaks is an architectural landscape based upon the country's dramatic natural setting. Each of the Seven Peaks house a residential mixed-use development derived from the geometry of a famous mountain in Azerbaijan. Individually each mountain becomes a principle for mixing private and public functions. Together the mountains form an organic skyline merging with the natural topography of the island. A dense vibrant urban community connected to a series of private resort villages by a central public valley and surrounding beaches. A continuous public trekking path connects the mountains and invites visitors to scale the top of all seven peaks. In addition to the Seven Peaks the Master Plan also includes 300 private villas that take advantage of their setting with panoramic views out over the Caspian Sea.

The vision of Zira Island is to create an island that is entirely independent of external resources. A self contained island. The Seven Peaks of Azerbaijan proposes an architectural landscape derived from its natural

Baku Flame Towers is a striking new addition to the skyline of Baku. Located atop a hill on the Caspian Sea overlooking Baku Bay and the old city center, the three towers were inspired by Azerbaijan's ancient history of fire worshipping, and will illuminate the city and act as an eternal flame for modern Baku. The goal of the project was to create a low-resolution media façade to display video content, while integrating inconspicuous lighting fixtures into existing architecture. To meet the project requirements, Traxon created a special fixture, to be installed behind the buildings' windows and give the allusion of ribbons of light. The main challenge of this project was the varying window dimensions, and that the maximum gap between fixture and window frame needed to be less than 15mm. With a flexible mounting solution and intelligent calculation, the project team reduced the overall amount of needed fixtures to only 16 different modular lengths. The entire three-tower installation is controlled by an e:cue Lighting Control Engine fx (LCE-fx) running Emotion, and Video Micro Converters (VMCs). Typically displaying burning flames, the intelligent control system allows for simple lighting show changes to reflect additional animations and graphics for special events, such as the recent 2012 Eurovision Song Contest.

Baku (Azerbaijani: Bakı, IPA: [bɑˈcɯ]) is the capital and largest city of Azerbaijan, as well as the largest city on the Caspian Sea and of the Caucasus region. Baku is located 28 metres (92 ft) below sea level, which makes it the lowest lying national capital in the world and also the largest city in the world located below sea level. It is located on the southern shore of the Absheron Peninsula, which projects into the Caspian Sea. The city consists of two principal parts: the downtown area and the old Inner City (21.5 ha). At the beginning of 2009, Baku's urban population was estimated at just over two million people. Officially, about 25 percent of all inhabitants of the country live in Baku's metropolitan area.
Baku is divided into eleven administrative districts (raions) and 48 townships. Among these are the townships on islands in the Baku Bay and the town of Oil Rocks built on stilts in the Caspian Sea, 60 km (37 mi) away from Baku. The Inner City of Baku along with the Shirvanshah's Palace and Maiden Tower were inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000. According to the Lonely Planet's ranking, Baku is also among the world's top ten destinations for urban nightlife.

Caucasus has long been called "The Alps of Central Asia". The natural landscape continue to play an important role in present day Azerbaijan. Shaped by the Caucasus Range towards the north and the coastline of the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan is a strategic gateway between east and west full of contrasts and contradictions.
The landscape of Azerbaijan includes many snow-capped peaks exceeding 4.000 meters, lush green valleys towards the south and large swathes of arid semi-desert in between. Just a few hours drive away from timeless mountain villages clad in lush orchards sits the Azerbaijani capital of Baku which in Persian means "the wind swept city" whose medieval center is a UNESCO World Heritage site and home to the Zira Island Master Plan. Caucasus - The Alps of Central Asia. Located within the crescent shaped bay of the capital city Baku, Zira Island includes the Seven Peaks of Azerbaijan which is envisioned to be a sustainable model for urban development, and an iconographic skyline recognizable from the city's coastline. The Seven Peaks is an architectural landscape based upon the country's dramatic natural setting. Each of the Seven Peaks house a residential mixed-use development derived from the geometry of a famous mountain in Azerbaijan. Individually each mountain becomes a principle for mixing private and public functions. Together the mountains form an organic skyline merging with the natural topography of the island. The goal of the project was to create a low-resolution media façade to display video content, while integrating inconspicuous lighting fixtures into existing architecture. To meet the project requirements, Traxon created a special fixture, to be installed behind the buildings' windows and give the allusion of ribbons of light. The main challenge of this project was the varying window dimensions, and that the maximum gap between fixture and window frame needed to be less than 15mm. With a flexible mounting solution and intelligent calculation, the project team reduced the overall amount of needed fixtures to only 16 different modular lengths. The entire three-tower installation is controlled by an e:cue Lighting Control Engine fx (LCE-fx) running Emotion, and Video Micro Converters (VMCs). Typically displaying burning flames, the intelligent control system allows for simple lighting show changes to reflect additional animations and graphics for special events, such as the recent 2012 Eurovision Song Contest.

Over the years, more modern artwork and sculptures have been added, turning the park into a strange, yet peaceful graveyard of former icons.
