A game show is a type of radio or television program in which members of the public, television personalities or celebrities, sometimes as part of a team, play a game which involves answering questions or solving puzzles usually for money and/or prizes. On some shows contestants compete against other players or another team while other shows involve contestants playing alone for a good outcome or a high score. Game shows often reward players with prizes such as cash, trips and goods and services provided by the show's sponsor prize suppliers, who in turn usually do so for the purposes of product placement.
Television game shows descended from similar programs on radio. The very first television game show, Spelling Bee, was broadcast in 1938. Truth or Consequences was the first game show to air on commercially-licensed television. Its first episode aired in 1941 as an experimental broadcast.
Over the course of the 1950s, as television began to pervade the popular culture, game shows quickly became a fixture. Daytime game shows would be played for lower stakes to target stay-at-home housewives. Higher-stakes programs would air in prime time. During the late 1950s, high-stakes games such as Twenty One and The $64,000 Question began a rapid rise in popularity. However, the rise of quiz shows proved to be short-lived. In 1959, many of the higher stakes game shows were discovered to be rigged. Ratings decline led to most of the prime time games being canceled. Only the daytime games survived during this period; game shows remained a fixture of daytime television through the 1960s along with soap operas, reruns, and local telecasts of old films. Lower-stakes games made a slight comeback in daytime in the early 1960s; examples include Jeopardy! which began in 1964 and the original version of The Match Game first aired in 1962. Let's Make a Deal began in 1963 and the 1960s also marked the debut of Hollywood Squares, Password, The Dating Game and The Newlywed Game.
Cuttin' pictures from a magazine

I pass the time away before I sleep
I have your picture sitting next to me
I taped your picture in a book
Don't bother reading I just take a look
Don't have to turn the page before I know
So full of answers I don't need to know
I like to take control
I like the game show
The game show
The game show
Don't have to turn the page before I know
You ask me questions I already know
The time has finally come to let it go
I like to take control
I like the game show

So you think you know what time it is,
Then how come you have wasted so much of it on me?
Just take your consolation prize,
Because you never knew what was waiting for you behind door number 2 or 3.
Taking out the trash don't make you an overnight saint to me.
Welcome to the game show, (welcome to the game)
Hope you win the prize, (hope you win the prize)
Welcome to the game show, (welcome to the game)
You gotta spin the wheel just right, (gotta spin the wheel just right)
Is that an imitation rolex?
And your bogus english accent ain't foolin' me at all.
Just take your eight track knowledge, yeah,
Start saving your dimes for a waste of time.
For when you go back to school in the fall.
Last night we were watching this game show
They were talking 'bout marriage
And that stuff you know
I found myself laughing
Cause those couples weren't clear
And then here he comes with this bright idea
So I said to him
- I know you mean well
You're genuine I can tell
Besides you and me
I know that we would soar
But are you ready?
You gotta be sure, you gotta be sure
- Oh no, I know you got the feeling, hold on
Baby, you're price ain't right, hold on
I know you got the feeling, hold on
Hey this is my life, hold on
I know you got the feeling, hold on
Baby you're price ain't right, I know
You feel like hitting the ceiling, hold on
Hey this is my life, hold on
So we're arguing
Talking about it back and forth
And forth and back as if there is no source
And now I'm wondering
Is this what he had in mind?
Cause if I thought we'd get through that door
Tell me what's gonna be my price
So I said to him
- Game show, game show, game show
Baby, you're price ain't right, hold on
Hey this is my life hold on
I know you got the feeling, hold on
Baby you're price ain't right, I know
You feel like hitting the ceiling, hold on
So come on down and try your hand at the oldest game in town
Pull up a chair and don't be scared, youve got to play it round by round
Spin the wheel and take a hit it doesnt matter what you chose
Sou can sink your battle ship but theres a good chance you will loose
A little lady walking down the street
And she was born in a good and nice town
You think youve got what it takes to be her man
So you try about and ask a lady if she would like to meet
Maybe this time things will go your way
Your never going to win unless you play
Break down and take the chances, nevermind the circumstances
Break down and keep on playing, roll the dice and bet it all, put the quater in and make the call
When the odds are bad, your luck is down and you don't feel much like playing
Think about the fun you had and listent what I'm saying
You could spend your life inside and never had no fun
Maybe things this time will go your way
You never gunna win unless you play
Breakdown and take the chances, nevermind the circumstances
Breakdown keep on playing, roll the dice and bet it all

Breakdown keep on playing, roll the dice and bet it all, put a quater in and make the call
You got to breakdown (whoaa)
