Andrew Welsh Imbrie (April 6, 1921 – December 5, 2007) was an American composer of contemporary classical music.

Imbrie was born in New York on April 6, 1921, and began his musical training as a pianist when he was 4. In 1937, he went to Paris to study briefly with Nadia Boulanger. He returned to the United States the next year to attend Princeton University where he studied with Roger Sessions, receiving his undergraduate degree in 1942. His senior thesis there, a string quartet, was recorded by the Juilliard Quartet. He then went to the University of California, Berkeley, where he received an M.A. in Music in 1947; there he continued to study with Sessions, who had taken a position at Berkeley. Imbrie taught composition, theory, and analysis at Berkeley from 1949 until his retirement in 1991. In addition to his principal teaching job at Berkeley, he served as a visiting professor at the University of Chicago, Brandeis University, Northwestern University, New York University, the University of Alabama, and Harvard University, and had a regular teaching post at the San Francisco Conservatory. He died at his home in Berkeley, California at the age of 86. His notable students included Larry Austin, Neil Rolnick and Leslie Wildman.

William Grosvenor Congdon (April 15, 1912, Providence, Rhode Island – April 15, 1998, Milan) gained notoriety as an artist in New York City in the 1940s, but lived most of his life in Europe. In 2001, The Sabbath of History, a book combining his works and the words of the future Pope Benedict XVI was published.

William Grosvenor Congdon was born April 15, 1912 in Providence, Rhode Island into a socially prominent family of New England industrialists. He was the cousin of Isabella Stewart Gardner (the American, poet-critic Allen Tate's second wife) who is spoken of in personal letters between Allen Tate and Jacques Maritain. (see pages 77-79 in John M. Dunaway's Exiles and Fugitives: The Letters of Jacques and Raissa Maritain, Allen Tate, and Caroline Gordon.)

After graduating from St. Mark's School, in 1930 he enrolled at Yale University where he received a B.A. in English in 1934. For four years he studied to become a sculptor in Philadelphia and Boston at one point under the guidance of George Demetrios.

Elmer Nelson Bischoff (July 9, 1916 – March 2, 1991) was a visual artist in the San Francisco Bay Area. Bischoff, along with Richard Diebenkorn and David Park, was part of the post-World War II generation of artists who started as abstract painters and found their way back to figurative art.

Elmer Bischoff, second child of John Bischoff and his wife, Elna (née Elna Nelson), grew up in Berkeley, California, the second-generation Californian son of a father of German descent and a mother of mixed Swedish-Ecuadoran origin.

He entered the University of California, Berkeley in September 1934, completing his master's degree in May 1939, and immediately started teaching art at Sacramento High School (1939–1941). During his years at university, one teacher had influenced him most: the highly independent-minded Margaret Peterson, whose total dedication to her teaching, and insistence on the ethical value of art, were to have a great impact on the artist Elmer Bischoff would be. World War II, however, was to change Bischoff's life. In 1941, he served as a lieutenant colonel in intelligence services in England, stationing near Oxford, and only coming back to the US in November 1945.

Robert Paul "Bob" Kinney (September 16, 1920 – September 2, 1985) was an American professional basketball player in the Basketball Association of America (BAA), National Basketball Association (NBA) and National Professional Basketball League (NPBL). Besides Bob, his nicknames included Hi-Pocket and Bat-em Bob. Kinney, who attended high school in San Antonio, Texas, went to college at Rice University where he was a standout on the basketball team in 1940–41 and 1941–42.

During his career at Rice, Kinney, who was an imposing 6 ft 6 in (1.98 m), 215 pounds (98 kg) center and forward, was a two-time consensus All-American. He was a Second Team selection in 1941 and a First Team All-American in 1942. He joined the Fort Wayne Pistons of the National Basketball League (a precursor to the NBA) in 1945. On January 30, 1948, he was sold by the Pistons to the Boston Celtics and finished out the year with them. At the conclusion of the season, the BAA merged with some of the teams from the NBL to form the NBA. Kinney was retained for the 1949–50 season, which was the NBA's first, and therefore the Celtics' first in the league. In 60 games that year, Kinney scored 667 points (11.1 ppg). Kinney's NBA career ended after that season, but he played for the Anderson Packers of the NPBL in 1950–51. In 23 games he averaged 12.4 points. On November 19, 1950, he tied a Packers franchise record with 28 points in a 73–81 loss to the Louisville Alumnites.
