Brierley (pronounced as "bry"-"early") is a town and civil parish in the Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley in South Yorkshire, England. The town, situated close to the border with West Yorkshire, is at the south of the A628 road, and is less than 2 miles (3 km) to the south-west of Hemsworth.
The civil parish of Brierley contains the large pit village of Grimethorpe, and at the 2001 census had a population of 5,973.
Brierley lies approximately 330 feet (100 m) above sea level.
Brierley was an early Saxon settlement. The fort at Brierley Gap, mistakenly called Saxon, is from a much earlier period - probably the Iron Age. The village grew first around the hill top on the Barnsley to Pontefract road where a small hollow and the sites of several wells provided a good building area. Along Ket Hill Lane, coal seams come to the surface and form part of the soil so coal must have been known to these early farmers. Sandstone and coal in alternate layers are the underlying rocks of the area.
John Renbourn (8 August 1944 – 26 March 2015) was an English guitarist and songwriter. He was possibly best known for his collaboration with guitarist Bert Jansch as well as his work with the folk group Pentangle, although he maintained a solo career before, during and after that band's existence (1967–1973).
While most commonly labelled a folk musician, Renbourn's musical tastes and interests took in early music, classical music, jazz, blues and world music. His most influential album, Sir John Alot (1968), featured his take on tunes from the Medieval era.
John Renbourn studied classical guitar at school and it was during this period that he was introduced to Early Music. In the 1950s, along with many others, he was greatly influenced by the musical craze of "Skiffle" and this eventually led him to explore the work of artists such as Lead Belly, Josh White and Big Bill Broonzy.
In the 1960s the new craze in popular music was Rhythm and Blues, also the impact of Davey Graham was being felt. In 1961 Renbourn toured the South West with Mac MacLeod and repeated the tour in 1963.On returning from the South West Renbourn and MacLeod recorded a demo tape together. Renbourn briefly played in an R&B band while studying at the Kingston College of Art in London. Although the British "Folk Revival" was underway, most folk clubs were biased towards traditional, unaccompanied folk songs, and guitar players were not always welcome. However, the Roundhouse in London had a more tolerant attitude and here, John Renbourn joined blues and gospel singer Dorris Henderson, playing backing guitar and recording two albums with her.

Atheist Richard Dawkins spoke to Premier's Justin Brierley immediately after a debate he had with Christian Professor John Lennox on whether Science has disproved God. Surprisingly, Dawkins admits to Premier that there must have been some cause for the start of the universe.

This tune was written to be flat picked but I don't have the skill for that yet so this is my abbreviated fingerpicked attempt… I'll keep working on it
My second attempt to play this is an improvement over the first, though still not quite right... I'm making progress, but it's slower than I'd like...

My 35yo Fylde Oberon (no. 1430) - bought in August 2015. Not so easy to play but lovely tone. Maybe he needs to go to the workshop. Recorded on 23rd Dec 2015.
Saroo Brierley stops by to talk about his inspiring story. His book is available: http://bit.ly/11XyMbJ One evening, five-year-old Saroo left his poor village home in India to watch his older brother work at the next town's train station. His life was about to be utterly transformed. Lost and alone on an unfamiliar train, he found himself taken across the country and deposited in a strange city, unable to explain who he was or where he was from. Saroo was taken in by a government agency and, after failed attempts to find his family, was miraculously adopted by an Australian couple, the Brierleys, and taken to start a new life in Hobart. As an adult, with the advent of Google Earth, he was able to find what he thought was his home neighbourhood of Ganesh Talai -- and go in search of his fa...

Rob Bell appeared on Justin Brierley's Unbelievable Radio Broadcast recently. The discussion turned to his new position on homosexuality, and Mr. Bell demonstrated that his position is one of cultural compromise, not biblical reflection. My review.

The transcript: Justin Brierley: When you make a value judgement don't you immediately step yourself outside of this evolutionary process and say that the reason this is good is that it's good. And you don't have any way to stand on that statement. Richard Dawkins: My value judgement itself could come from my evolutionary past. Justin Brierley: So therefore it's just as random in a sense as any product of evolution. Richard Dawkins: You could say that, it doesn't in any case, nothing about it makes it more probable that there is anything supernatural. Justin Brierley: Ultimately, your belief that rape is wrong is as arbitrary as the fact that we've evolved five fingers rather than six. Richard Dawkins: You could say that, yeah.
