The Daily Express is a daily national middle market tabloid newspaper in the United Kingdom. It is the flagship title of Express Newspapers, a subsidiary of Northern & Shell (itself wholly owned by Richard Desmond). In July 2011 it had an average daily circulation of 625,952.

Express Newspapers currently also publishes the Sunday Express (launched in 1918), Daily Star and Daily Star Sunday.

The Daily Express was founded in 1900 by Sir Arthur Pearson. Pearson sold the title after losing his sight and it was bought in 1916 by the future Lord Beaverbrook. It was one of the first papers to carry gossip, sports, and women's features, and the first newspaper in Britain to have a crossword. The Russian communist revolutionary Leon Trotsky wrote despatches for the paper following his expulsion from the Soviet Union in 1929. It moved in 1931 to 120 Fleet Street, a specially commissioned art deco building. Under Beaverbrook the newspaper achieved a phenomenally high circulation, setting records for newspaper sales several times throughout the 1930s. Its success was partly due to an aggressive marketing campaign and a vigorous circulation war with other populist newspapers. Beaverbrook also discovered and encouraged a gifted editor named Arthur Christiansen, who showed an uncommon gift for staying in touch with the interests of the reading public. The paper also featured Alfred Bestall's Rupert Bear cartoon and satirical cartoons by Carl Giles. An infamous front page headline of these years was "Judea Declares War on Germany", published on 24 March 1933.

John Cooper Clarke (born 25 January 1949) is an English performance poet who first became famous during the punk rock era of the late 1970s when he became known as a "punk poet". He released several albums in the late 1970s and early 1980s, and continues to perform regularly.

His recorded output has mainly centred around musical backing from The Invisible Girls, which featured Martin Hannett, Pete Shelley, Bill Nelson, Paul Burgess and Steve Hopkins.

Clarke was born in Salford, Lancashire in 1949. His first job was a laboratory technician at the University of Salford. He began his performance career in Manchester folk clubs, where he began working with Rick Goldstraw and his band The Ferrets. His first releases were on the independent label Rabid, starting with the EP Innocents in October 1977. He toured with Bill Nelson's band Be-Bop Deluxe in 1978 and was signed by Epic Records, who issued the Nelson-produced debut album Disguise In Love in 1978. In 1979 he had his only UK top 40 hit with "Gimmix! (Play Loud)". Clarke toured with Linton Kwesi Johnson, and has performed on the same bill as bands such as Sex Pistols, The Fall, Joy Division, Buzzcocks, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Elvis Costello, Rockpile, and New Order (including at their May 1984 Music for Miners benefit concert at London's Royal Festival Hall). His set is characterised by lively, rapid-fire renditions of his poems, usually performed a cappella. Often referred to as "the bard of Salford", he usually refers to himself on stage as "Johnny Clarke, the name behind the hairstyle".

Michael Fish MBE (born 27 April 1944 in Eastbourne, East Sussex) is a semi-retired British weather forecaster, best known for his BBC Weather television presentations, although he was actually employed by the Met Office.

He became infamous in the wake of the Great Storm of 1987; a few hours before the storm broke, on 15 October 1987, he said during a forecast: "Earlier on today, apparently, a woman rang the BBC and said she heard there was a hurricane on the way... well, if you're watching, don't worry, there isn't!". That evening, the worst storm to hit South East England since 1703 caused record damage and killed 18 people.

More than six years after retiring from the BBC national forecast, he is now^[when?] making a return to regular forecasting, presenting a weekly weather forecast for Netweather.tv and occasional forecasts for BBC South East Today, BBC London and Radio Kent.

From Monday 12 to Friday 16 October 2009, to mark the 22nd anniversary of the Great Storm of 1987, he presented the morning weather forecasts on GMTV.

Tamara Ecclestone (born 28 June 1984)^{[citation needed]} is a British socialite, television personality and model.

Tamara Ecclestone was born in Milan. to an English father and Croatian mother. Ecclestone is the elder daughter of Croatian former Armani model Slavica Ecclestone and middle daughter of "Formula 1 Supremo" Bernie Ecclestone. She has a younger sister, Petra Ecclestone.

Ecclestone was educated at the Francis Holland School in London and later studied, but did not complete, courses at the London School of Economics and University College London.

Ecclestone was the presenter of Sky Sports Italia's coverage of the 2009 Formula 1 season. She has also been involved in a range of other lifestyle and glamour productions, after making her television debut in 2006 presenting the Red Bull Air Race World Championship for Channel 4. In 2011, she starred in her own reality television show Tamara Ecclestone: Billion $$$ Girl on Channel 5.

Ecclestone has been involved in fundraising for the Great Ormond Street Hospital and other activities to benefit sick children. She also posed for an anti-fur advertisement for PETA.
