Mädchen Amick ( /ˈmeɪdʃən ˈeɪmɪk/, MAYD-shən AYM-ik; born December 12, 1970) is an American actress best known for playing Shelly Johnson on the cult television series Twin Peaks and its 1992 prequel film Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me.
Amick was born in Sparks, Nevada, a few miles east of Reno, Nevada, the daughter of Judy, a medical office manager, and Bill Amick, a musician. Amick's parents are German; the name Mädchen (pronounced [ˈmɛːtçən] ( listen)), which means "girl" or "maiden" in German, was chosen by her parents because they wanted an unusual name. As a young girl, Amick was encouraged by her parents to follow her creative instincts. She learned to play the piano, bass, violin and guitar and took lessons in tap, ballet, jazz and modern dance. In 1987, at the age of 16, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in acting.
After moving to L.A., Amick appeared on Star Trek: The Next Generation as well as in The Borrower (1991). Amick got her first break when director David Lynch chose her to play waitress Shelly Johnson on the TV series Twin Peaks. Amick's character endured terrible abuse at the hands of her husband, Leo, and was one of the most popular characters, ensuring her return in the feature film Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me. In 1992, Amick appeared in the Stephen King horror movie Sleepwalkers. She has also appeared in TV movies such as Love, Cheat and Steal (1993). A highlight of Amick's film career is the 1994 feature film Dream Lover, a thriller in which she co-starred with James Spader. Amick also appeared in the romantic comedy French Exit (1995) and the science fiction thriller Bombshell (1996).
Twin Peaks is an American television serial drama created by David Lynch and Mark Frost. The series follows the investigation headed by FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan), of the murder of a popular teenager and homecoming queen, Laura Palmer (Sheryl Lee). Twin Peaks' pilot episode was first broadcast on April 8, 1990 on ABC, which led to another seven episodes being produced and a second season, which aired until June 10, 1991. The show's name came from its setting, a small fictional Washington town. Exteriors were primarily filmed in Snoqualmie and North Bend, with additional exteriors shot in southern California. Most of the interior scenes were shot on standing sets in a San Fernando Valley warehouse.
Twin Peaks became one of the top-rated shows of 1990, a critical success both nationally and internationally. Reflecting its devoted cult fan base, the series became a part of popular culture, referenced in other television shows, commercials, comic books, video games, films and song lyrics. Declining viewer ratings led to ABC's insistence that the identity of Laura's murderer be revealed midway through the second season. In 1992, the series spawned a prequel, the film Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me, a commercial failure in America, but a success in Japan.

Stack up donuts, pack up the pies
Put on the trench coat, rack up the lies
Overcast sky and the pines are swaying
The bird gets the worm so I'm up in the am
Gotta crack a case in a place called Peaks
Where the lights all blink and your outlooks's bleak
Got a lotta caffeine, interrogating teens
The homecoming queen just rolled up on the beach
Wrapped in plastic, white as a sheet
Gave a heart attack to a man name Pete,
Who couldn't make coffee, he offered it kindly,
Tasted like fish can't put it behind me
Back to the hood got a mug of "damn good"
They say something black is in the back woods
Owls in disguise and the boys are in the Book House
Just like elm street know you better look out
Nothing in this world ever could prepare me
Think later on I maybe need some therapy
Talkin to myself, my reflection scares me
If I'm gonna die I'll have pie make it cherry
Cherry, cherry, cherry, cherry.
That's right mother fucker. Word up
This pie's so good it is a crime...
(This pie's so good it is a crime)
This pie's so good it is a crime...
(This pie's so good it is a crime)
This pie's so good it is a crime...
(This pie's so good it is a crime)
Excuse me while I break this rhyme...
(Excuse me while I break this rhyme)
Was it Audrey, oh so tawdry freshly squeezed little tease?
Was the baddie Audrey's daddy busy buying twin peaks?
Was it Leland, his attorney, always straightening his tie?
Was it Norma? She's a killer. I'm still waitin for pie
Was it Jacoby? he's an oldie, used to run with the gangs
Was it Harold Smith? Or was his crime that he's just lame?
Was it Donna the elitist packin peaches for James?
Was it Bobby Briggs? I think it is, keep hearin his name
Was it Leo? He's creepo and his ponytail is evil.
And he got a lot of screen time in the unpopular prequel
This detective got dimished so they could finish with Kieffer
But I saw Kristen Davis naked, she got fish in her beaver
What?

Name is Cooper. I'm in a stupor
Lying flat in a stained wood room
Usually strapped, but I just got capped
By a man in black or so you would assume
A dude like Lurch says "on with the search
Will you dare to dream like you did in Dune"
So I got three clues and a gun shot wound
And tick bite bruise, but whatcha gonna do?
The breeze in the trees will squeeze out your soul
Like that shit was tartar control
Murder she wrote, nobody wrote back
Gotta bust a ghost with no proton pack.
That's right. I put a Ghostbusters reference in a song about Twin Peaks. Everybody's happy
This pie's so good it is a crime...

Excuse me while I break this rhyme...
Throw away all the lies
Take my hand, fall over me
Into the place where we lie down just breathing
Would I ever hurt you, my love?
And I flow with you into the sea
And I no longer feel the air between
Come closer, don't look back
Let me smell all you are
I'll show you all that you ought to see, just breathing
Could I ever hurt you, my love?
And I flow with you into the sea
If i'd known all your ghosts
i never would have come so far
i spend too many hours
wondering who you really are
twin peaks and david lynch
met on your couch at syracuse
your sexual advances
are unconvincing and untrue
(unconvincing and untrue)
my lover's a carnivore
her body's an ivory casing
this whimsy has put me to sleep
why is everything a chore?
i'm too young to be defeated
let's make fun at the video store
with blue velvet and other titles
and i can't believe you at all
so you can keep your holiday spirit
it belonged to both of us
it belonged to both of us
now we need to redefine
tell me where to draw the line
close contact on the couch was fine
tell me where to draw the line
i know things could be different
if i were older and less afraid
you don't have to make excuses
i'm already on my way
twin peaks and david lynch
met on your couch at syracuse
your? growing fainter
