They are spectacular, and for this reason they embody the craftsmanship of haute horlogerie. But the tourbillon and the carrousel were invented for other reasons. Their first role is to average out the impact of gravity on the movement's rate. Invented by Abraham-Louis Breguet at the end of the 17th century, the tourbillon makes the whole escapement revolve around its own axis. Created by Bahne Bonniksen in 1892, the carrousel follows the same principle but in a more secured way. -

Frederick I. Sturm (born March 21, 1951 in Woodstock, Illinois) is a jazz composer, arranger, and teacher.
Sturm studied at Lawrence University, the University of North Texas College of Music, and the Eastman School of Music. He played trombone and performed with the jazz nonet Matrix from 1974 to 1977. He served as Director of Jazz Studies at Lawrence University from 1977 to 1991, then joined the Eastman School of Music faculty as professor of jazz composition/arranging, conductor of the Eastman Jazz Ensemble and Studio Orchestra, and chair of the Eastman Jazz Studies and Contemporary Media Department. In 2002, he returned home to Wisconsin to direct the Lawrence University Jazz and Improvisational Music Department and hold the Kimberly-Clark Endowed Professorship in Music.
Sturm resides in DePere, Wisconsin with Susan, his wife for over 30 years. His son Ike Sturm is a New York City bassist, composer, educator, and Assistant to the Director of Music for the Jazz Ministry at Saint Peter's Church in Manhattan. Daughter Madeline Sturm is a New York based artist and musician.

Key Poulan (born 1962) is an American composer and arranger of marching band and concert band works. He is a relatively well known arranger of various pieces of music. He is currently the brass arranger for the Santa Clara Vanguard and Spartans Drum and Bugle Corps. Key Poulan's Marching Band arrangements are published around the world, and include Heartbeat, House of Cards, Seven (7 Deadly Sins), Vanishing Point, RED, Canon: Deconstruction/Reconstruction, Chronometry, Circuitry, Classic Schizophrenia, Four Winds, Earth: Construction in Four Movements, Luminosity, Jules Verne Journeys, X, and Bermuda Triangle!. His newest shows include Chakra!, Optical Illusions, Phobias, and Voodoo in 2011.
