Winston Rodney, OD (born 1 March 1945), also known as Burning Spear, is a Jamaican roots reggae singer and musician. Burning Spear is known for his Rastafari movement messages.
Rodney was born in Saint Ann's Bay, Saint Ann, Jamaica, as were reggae singer Bob Marley and political activist Marcus Garvey who both had a great influence on Rodney's life: Garvey in his philosophy, which Burning Spear greatly took to, and Marley in directly helping Burning Spear get started in the music industry (by some accounts) by introducing him to Clement Dodd. Rodney met Marley at the latter's farm in 1969, and having told him that he wanted to get into the music business, Marley advised him to start at Dodd's Studio One label.Reggae singer Larry Marshall claimed that it was he, while visiting St. Ann's Bay with Jackie Mittoo, who was approached by Rodney, and gave him this advice, and arranged the introduction.

Chorus
In the forties and the fifties no one
was fair
In the sixties people start to share
In the seventies we were there
Do you know social living is the best (repeat)
It takes behaviour to get along
Lots of behaviour to get along
Do you really really know that
Do you remember the days of slavery?
Do you remember the days of slavery?
And how they beat us
And how they worked us so hard
And they used us
'Til they refuse us
Do you remember the days of slavery?
And a big fat bull
We usually pull it everywhere
We must pull it
With shackles around our necks
And I can see it all no more
Do you remember the days of slavery?
My brother feels it
Including my sisters too
Some of us survive
Showing them that we are still alive
Do you remember the days of slavery?
History can recall, history can recall
History can recall the days of slavery
Oh slavery days!Oh slavery days!
While I remember, please remember
Do you do you do you, do you do you do you

Don't trust that man,
That man could loose his trust
So many people have loose
Their trust in Jah
Jah know, Jah know, Jah know,
Jah know- that man could be any man.
When you talk about trust,
You've got to be careful,
For trust most times,
Cause a lot of fuss.
Jah know, Jah know, Jah know-
That man could be any man.
Sometimes we got to look way
Back in life
And Try to remember the good
Times we had,
Without no fight
Things have changed, Things have changed,
Things have changed.
Don't trust that man,
That man could loose his trust
So many people have loose
Their trust in Jah
Jah know, Jah know, Jah know,
Jah know- that man could be any man.
Sometimes, we sould givt it a try again
That nice time we usually have
Without no fight
Jah know, Jah know, Jah know,
Jah know- that man could be any man.
You can't blame no one
People want to be safe and
Taken care of, when you talk
About Trust
Jah know, Jah know, Jah know,
Jah know- that man could be any man.
Sometimes, you will here some
People say,
"Trust me, I can get the work done"
Don't trust that man,
That man could loose his trust
So many people have loose
Their trust in Jah
Jah know, Jah know, Jah know,

Loving you is what I can do, but only if you want me to
Loving you is what I can do, but only if you want me to
We two are coming from way back, far back
When first I met you, I made my eye connection
Many, many, many years now we been rubbing it together
Many, many, many years now we been rubbing it together
We been rubbing, we been rubbing, we been rubbing
Together, together, together
Yes I want to love you

Help me Jah

Someday I will love you
Someday I will love you
I will love you like you want me to
Yes girl I will love you
I want to be loved, for who I am,
Not loved for what I have.
I want to be loved, for who I am,
Not loved for what I have.
Sufferation I know all about,
Struggling, I've been there.
Sufferation I know all about,
Struggling, I've been there.
I couldn't call my mother,
I couldn't call my father,
And if there hear,
They couldn'tanswer.
Jah was my only help,
Jah was my only help.
I want to be loved, for who I am,
Not loved for what I have.
I want to be loved, for who I am,
Not loved for what I have.
See me for who I am,
Know me for who I am.
Love me for who I am,
Move together for who I am.
But Jah was my only help,
But Jah was my only help.
I want to be loved, for who I am,
Not loved for what I have.
I want to be loved, for who I am,
Not loved for what I have.
Going down the street
I learn everything
Going down the street
I see everthing
I see the people who love me
And the people I know.
But Jah was my only help,
But Jah was my only help.
I've got to move on in life,
Regardless, the struggle
Is alive.
I will never, never
Give up the fight.
I want to be loved, for who I am,
Not loved for what I have.
I want to be loved, for who I am,
Not loved for what I have.
I can't turn my back on life
I will hold up high.
I can't turn my back on life
I will hold up high.
Sufferation I know all about,
Struggling, I've been there.
Sufferation I know all about,
Struggling, I've been there.
I couldn't call my mother,
I couldn't call my father,
And if there hear,
They couldn'tanswer.
Jah was my only help,
Try my best to live good
Try my best to do the right
I don't know what wrong have I done you

Rastaman, not knowing his
Name like any other man,
The first thing they say is,
"Hey Dready!".
Some Rastaman don't like the
Name, Dready.
I am happy with the name
Rastaman; I am happy with the
Name, Dready.

Criticize my bredren; I have no
Intention to criticize my sistren.

Never be peace.

My time coming any day, don't worry 'bout me, no
Been so long I felt this way, I'm in no hurry no
Rainbows end down that highway where ocean breezes blow
My time coming, voices saying, they tell me where to go
(note 1)
Don't you worry 'bout me--oh no no, don't worry 'bout
me, no
And I'm in no hurry--oh no no no, I know where to go
California, preaching on the burning shore
California, I'll be knocking on the golden door
Like an angel, standing in a shaft of light
Rising up to paradise, I know I'm gonna shine
My time coming any day, don't worry 'bout me, no
It's gonna be just like they say, them voices tell me
Seems so long I felt this way and time sure passing
slow (note 2)
Still I know I lead the way, they tell me where I go
Don't you worry 'bout me--oh, no, no, don't worry 'bout
me, no
And I'm in no hurry--oh, no, no, no, I know where to go
California, a prophet on the burning shore
California, I'll be knocking on the golden door
Like an angel, standing in a shaft of light
Rising up to paradise, I know I'm gonna shine
You've all been asleep, you would not believe me
Them voices telling me, you will soon receive me
We're standing on the beach, the sea will part before
me (note 3)
Fire wheel burning in the air
You will follow me and we will ride to glory (note 4)
Way up in the middle of the air
And I'll call down thunder and speak the same
And my words fills the sky with flame (note 5)
And might and glory gonna be my name
And men gonna light my way
My time coming any day, don't worry 'bout me, no
It's gonna be just like they say, them voices tell me
Seems so long I felt this way and time sure passing
slow (note 6)
My time coming any day, don't worry 'bout me, no
Don't you worry 'bout me--oh, no, no, don't worry 'bout
me, no
And I'm in no hurry--oh, no, no, don't worry 'bout me,
And I'm in no hurry--oh, no, no, no, I know where to go

Great-great-great-greater-great grandmother-mother-
mother-mother
She is black, soul black, yeah
She is black
My old great grandfather
Greater-greater-great-great-great-great-great
Grandfather-father-father-father-father-father-father,

He is black, soul black, soul black
So don't good to travel today
Neither to cross the ocean
Desert's so dry
Water-thirst kill you, oh
Kill you, oh
Kill you, mmm
Don't good to travel today
No, black disciples will never run away
No, they will no frustrate
They come to stay
Is a lucky thing I never get
Swell headed
Is a lucky thing I never get
Swell headed
And started to run, run, run
I will never run away
And started to run, run, run
I will never run away
Do you hear?
I never run away
I never run, never run
Never run away
Deh a dem they say to I
Deh who feel so nice, so nice
Deh a dem they fight against I
You should see dem rejoice and tell I to
Run, run, run
I will never run away
Run, run, run
I will never run away
Do you hear?
I never run away
No I would never
I never run, never run
Never run away
I and I will never run away!
My black brother call me, call me
And he reason with me
Everything he tells me
Oh yes it's true
That's why I will never run, run, run
I will never run away
Run, run, run
I will never run away
Do you hear?
I never run away, no
I never run, never run
Never run away
I will never, will never
Will never, could never
I and I will never run away!
I and I will never run away!
No I will never run away

The all wild world knows that It's getting from bad to
worst
From bad to worst
Getting from bad to worst
Getting from bad to worst
Getting from bad to worst
Even myself knows that too, why can't you
Give us all rights and justice, equality and love
It's maybe one or two, feeling the same way
All I can see and hear the people sayin' it is
Getting from bad to worst
Getting from bad to worst
Even myself knows that too, why can't you
Getting from bad to worst
Even myself knows that too
Why can't you, who can't do something, do what they can
Do what they can, getting from bad to worst, to worst
Calling Africa, calling Africa, African and Africans
Shouldn't chase their Brothers
Please don't kill one another, for world power
It's Getting from bad to worst, to worst
All over the all wild world, all over
All over, all over
It's Getting from bad to worst
Getting from bad to worst, to worst, to worst
Getting from bad to worst
Getting from bad to worst
Why can't you?
Even myself knows that too, why can't you?
Why can't you? Why can't you?
[Intro:]
Stop singing in the late 60's
Heard about studio one by bob marley
Music went up
Down and around
[Chorus:]
Did someone remember burning spear
Did someone remember
Did someone remember burning spear
Did someone remember me
[Verse 1:]
The music attention
Was in a different direction
Not a burning direction
Spear been through his struggle
With a lot of patience and discipline
Never bow down
[Chorus:]
Did someone remember burning spear
Did someone remember
Did someone remember burning spear
Did someone remember me
[Verse 2:]
I've been through the struggle like everyone
Like the earlier musicians
Blues musicicans, jazz musicians, reggae musicians
I was going back and forth
From St Anns to Kingston
13 branford road
[Chorus:]
Did someone remember burning spear
Did someone remember
Did someone remember burning spear
Did someone remember me
[Verse 3:]
Many times I ain't got no brown skin
Therefore gotta hitch hike a truck back
I am the stone that the builders refused
I am the stone that the builders refused
They put me aside
They pass me by
Thinking I would cry
Stone don't cry, stone don't cry
Usually sit at keylargo bay
Playing my congas and hitting height on string
[Chorus:]
Did someone remember burning spear
Did someone remember
Did someone remember burning spear
Did someone remember me
[Verse 4:]
The few soldiers that know me
They either from rough house ensembles
Start about keylargo beach
[Outro:]
Did someone remember burning spear
Would someone remember
Did someone remember burning spear
Did someone remember me
Did someone remember burning spear
Did someone remember
Did someone remember burning spear
Did someone remember me
Did someone remember burning spear
Did someone remember
