Plot
Action/war drama based on the best-selling book detailing a near-disastrous mission in Somalia on October 3, 1993. On this date nearly 100 U.S. Army Rangers, commanded by Capt. Mike Steele, were dropped by helicopter deep into the capital city of Mogadishu to capture two top lieutenants of a Somali warlord. This lead to a large and drawn-out firefight between the Rangers and hundreds of Somali gunmen, leading to the destruction of two U.S. Black Hawk helicopters. This film focuses on the heroic efforts of various Rangers to get to the downed black hawks, centering on Sgt. Eversmann, leading the Ranger unit Chalk Four to the first black hawk crash site, Warrant Officer Durant who was captured after being the only survivor of the second black hawk crash, as well as many others who were involved.

[after Nelson, Twombly, and Yurek grouped together; talking about equipment]::Twombly: Never mind. You brought NOD, right?::Yurek: No, I did not bring it. You know why? Because you said: "You won't need that dude, we'll be back in a half-hour."::Twombly: [feeling guilty] I wasn't exactly saying that to you.
[Durant and Wolcott talk over the intercom as they fly past each other in their helicopters]::Durant: Six-One, this is Six-Four, go to UHF secure. I've got some bad news.::Cliff Wolcott: Limo is a word, Durant. I don't want to hear about it.::Durant: It is not a word. It's an abbreviation of a word.::Cliff Wolcott: Limo is a word in common usage. That is the key phrase in scrabble, my friend, common usage.::Durant: No! If it's not in the dictionary, it doesn't count.::Cliff Wolcott: It doesn't have to be in the dictionary!::Durant: It does have to be in the dictionary! Listen, when we get back to base, it's coming off the board.::Cliff Wolcott: You touch my limo and I'll spank you, Night Stalker. You hear me?::Durant: Yeah. Promises.
Eversmann: Nobody asks to be a hero, it just sometimes turns out that way.
[Watching a Somali mother pick up a gun]::Specialist Mike Kurth: Don't do it lady!
"Hoot": When I go home people'll ask me, "Hey Hoot, why do you do it man? What, you some kinda war junkie?" You know what I'll say? I won't say a goddamn word. Why? They won't understand. They won't understand why we do it. They won't understand that it's about the men next to you, and that's it. That's all it is.
Struecker: No one gets left behind, you know that.
Abdullah 'Firimbi' Hassan: You Americans don't smoke anymore. You live long, dull and uninteresting lives.
"Hoot": Y'know what I think? Don't really matter what I think. Once that first bullet goes past your head, politics and all that shit just goes right out the window.
Struecker: It's what you do right now that makes a difference.
Smith: I'm sorry.::Eversmann: You have nothing to be sorry about. You saved Twombly, you did it perfect.::Smith: You okay Twombs?::Twombly: Yeah, I'm okay, Jamie.::Eversmann: See, you did what you were trained to do. You should be proud of that, be proud of that.::Smith: Ev?::Eversmann: Yeah.::Smith: Do me a favor, okay? Tell my parents that I fought well today. And tell them that I... that I... that I fought hard.::Eversmann: You're gonna tell them yourself okay, Jamie?::Smith: Are... are the humvees here?::Eversmann: They're coming, Jamie. They're coming. You just gotta hold on for a little longer. Can you do that?::Smith: I can, I can. It's nothing. It's nothing.

Blackburn ( pronounced /ˈblækbɜrn/) (help·info)) is a large town in Lancashire, England. It lies to the north of the West Pennine Moors on the southern edge of the Ribble Valley, 9 miles (14 km) east of the city of Preston, 27 miles (43 km) north-northwest of the city of Manchester. and is 13 miles (21 km) north of the border with Greater Manchester. Blackburn is bounded to the south by Darwen, with which it forms the unitary authority area of Blackburn with Darwen, Blackburn being the administrative centre. At the time of the UK Government's 2001 census, Blackburn had a population of 105,085, whilst the wider borough of Blackburn with Darwen had a population of 140,700.
A former mill town, textiles have been produced in Blackburn since the middle of the 13th century, when wool was woven in people's houses in the domestic system. Flemish weavers who settled in the area during the 14th century helped to develop the woollen cottage industry in the region.James Hargreaves, inventor of the spinning jenny, was a weaver in Blackburn. The most rapid period of growth and development in Blackburn's history coincided with the industrialisation and expansion of textile manufacturing. Blackburn was a boomtown of the Industrial Revolution, and amongst the first industrialised towns in the world.
John Whitaker "Jack" Straw (born 3 August 1946) is a British Labour Party politician who has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Blackburn since 1979. He served as Home Secretary from 1997 to 2001, Foreign Secretary from 2001 to 2006 and Lord Privy Seal and Leader of the House of Commons from 2006 to 2007 under Tony Blair. From 2007 to 2010 he was the Lord High Chancellor of Great Britain and the Secretary of State for Justice, appointed as part of Prime Minister Gordon Brown's first Cabinet. Straw is one of only three people to have served in Cabinet continuously from 1997 to 2010 (the others being Gordon Brown and Alistair Darling).
When the Labour Party lost power in May 2010, he briefly became the Shadow Lord High Chancellor of Great Britain, Shadow Secretary of State for Justice and the Shadow Deputy Prime Minister, but stood down from the frontbench after the Labour Party elected a new Shadow Cabinet.
Straw was born in Buckhurst Hill, Essex, England. One of his maternal great-grandparents was a Jewish German immigrant. Straw was brought up at Loughton, Essex by his mother, Joan Sylvia Gilbey on a council estate after his father Walter Arthur Whitaker Straw, an insurance salesman, left the family and condemned them to poverty. Walter Straw had been sent to prison in 1939 for being a conscientious objector.
William Sanford "Bill" Nye (born November 27, 1955), popularly known as Bill Nye the Science Guy, is an American science educator, comedian, television host, actor, mechanical engineer, and scientist. He is best known as the host of the Disney/PBS children's science show Bill Nye the Science Guy (1993–1998) and for his many subsequent appearances in popular media as a science educator.
William Sanford Nye was born in Washington, D.C., the son of Jacqueline (née Jenkins; c. 1920–2000), a codebreaker during World War II, and Edwin Darby "Ned" Nye (died 1997), also a World War II veteran whose experience in a Japanese prisoner of war camp led him to become a sundial enthusiast. Nye is a fourth-generation Washington, D.C. resident on his father's side of the family. After attending Lafayette Elementary and Alice Deal Junior High in the city, he was accepted to the private Sidwell Friends School on a partial scholarship, graduating in 1973. He studied mechanical engineering at Cornell University, where one of his professors was Carl Sagan, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in 1977. He was awarded an honorary doctorate by The Johns Hopkins University in May 2008. In May 2011, Nye was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Science degree from Willamette University where he was the keynote speaker for that year's commencement exercises.
Marsha Wedgeworth Blackburn (born June 6, 1952) is the U.S. Representative for Tennessee's 7th congressional district, serving since 2003. She is a member of the Republican Party. The district stretches from the suburbs of Nashville to the suburbs of Memphis.
Born Marsha Wedgeworth in Laurel, Mississippi, Blackburn attended Northeast Jones High School and graduated from Mississippi State University where she joined Chi Omega, and where she also spent a few summers working with the Southwestern Company. She owned and operated a marketing company in Williamson County Tennessee.
Blackburn began her political career in 1977 as a founding member of the Williamson County Young Republicans. She served as chairwoman of the Williamson County Republican Party from 1989 to 1991. Her elective political career began in 1992, when she won the Republican nomination for the 6th District, which at the time included her home in Brentwood. She lost by 16 percentage points to longtime congressman Bart Gordon. In 1995, she was appointed chairwoman of the Tennessee Film, Entertainment & Music Commission. She won elective office for the first time in 1998, when she was elected to the Tennessee State Senate, representing Williamson County and a sliver of Davidson County. She led efforts to prevent the passage of a state income tax championed by Governor Don Sundquist.
Elizabeth Helen Blackburn, AC, FRS (born 26 November 1948 in Hobart, Tasmania) is an Australian-born American biological researcher at the University of California, San Francisco, who studies the telomere, a structure at the end of chromosomes that protects the chromosome. Blackburn co-discovered telomerase, the enzyme that replenishes the telomere. Blackburn recalls: "Carol had done this experiment, and we sat down, just in the lab, and I remember sort of standing there, and she had this -- we call it a bum. It's an autoradiogram, because there was trace amounts of radioactivity that were used to develop an image of the separated DNA products of what turned out to be the telomerase enzyme reaction. I remember looking at it and just thinking, ‘Ah! This could be very big. This looks just right.’ It had a pattern to it. There was a regularity to it. There was something that was not just sort of garbage there, and that was really kind of coming through, even though we look back at it now, we'd say, technically, there was this, that and the other, but it was a pattern shining through, and it just had this sort of sense, ‘Ah! There's something real here.’ "For this work, she was awarded the 2009 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, sharing it with Carol W. Greider and Jack W. Szostak. She also worked in medical ethics, and was controversially dismissed from the President's Council on Bioethics.
I never let my guard down,
I'm known to be a cautious man,
I ain't got much to lose if I never take a chance,
I ain't had much luck at loving her,
That's what keeps me on my toes,
I keep my shoestrings tied up tight,
I keep both eyes on the road... so
Tell me why, why, why do I fall, fall, fall every time,
Just when I think I'm over her I get tripped up from behind,
I really should know better but my heart gets ahead of my mind,
I don't know why, why, why but I fall, fall, fall every time
I go out of my way not to stray into her part of town,
There ain't no shortcuts takin' the long way around,
I keep goin' 'round in circles,
But I can't drive away her memory,
I try to take a left turn,
But I'm right back where I used to be... so
Tell me why, why, why do I fall, fall, fall every time,
Just when I think I'm over her I get tripped up from behind,
I really should know better but my heart gets ahead of my mind,
I don't know why, why, why but I fall, fall, fall every time
Tell me why, why, why do I fall, fall, fall every time,
Just when I think I'm over her I get tripped up from behind,
I really should know better but my heart gets ahead of my mind,
I don't know why, why, why but I fall, fall, fall every time
Every heart has a private space,
A place of hiding,
For things we can't face,
And I know you're wondering,
If I'm really what I seem,
Or if out of a shadow someday,
There'll come a different me
So I want you to read me like a book
From cover to cover,
Open up the pages,
And see all that I am,
Memorize my heart,
Like an old love letter,
And from the beginning you'll see,
There is no end
There are times,
I wouldn't have made you proud,
But some things,
Are just hard to talk about,
But I'll be truthful,
I'm gonna lay it all on the line,
So if there's anything you wan to ask of me,
Baby I don't mind
So I want you to read me like a book
From cover to cover,
Open up the pages,
And see all that I am,
Memorize my heart,
Like an old love letter,
And from the beginning you'll see,
There is no end
Memorize my heart,
Like an old love letter,
And from the beginning you'll see,
There is no end
For you and me,
There is no end,
To you and me,
I was with the 42nd back in 1943,
I've fought for freedom on the shores of every sea,
But nowadays it's different all I feel is shame,
People dying everyday and I'm the one they blame
I wish I was a swingset in some little kid's backyard,
A tractor in a field or a bumber on a car,
I wish I was something that couldn't hurt no one,
Of all the things I could have been, I had to be a gun
They hide me in their lockers in the high school halls,
I hand out on the corners I've broken every law,
I've laid there in the court rooms tagged exhibit B,
Watched them go away in chains while I go back to the streets
I wish I was a swingset in some little kid's backyard,
A tractor in a field or a bumber on a car,
I wish I was something that couldn't hurt no one,
Of all the things I could have been, I had to be a gun
Undearneath a sweater hidden on a closet shelf,
His tiny hands reached for me but I couldn't scream for help
I wish I was a swingset in some little kid's backyard,
A tractor in a field or a bumber on a car,
I wish I was something that couldn't hurt no one,
I have stumbled, I have complained,
On this rough and rocky road,
I've been humbled, Caught out in the rain,
And it chilled me to the bone,
Lawd now I've seen my dreams scatter,
Like leaves lost in the wind,
And if I could do it over,
I'd go through it all again
Cause every path I haven't chosen,
Every heart that wasn't true,
Every door that wouldn't open,
Led me straight to you
I've been lonely, I've held on to love,
That I was never meant to have,
No one told me,
That til I let go, It would stay beyond my grasp,
Well it took a little heartache,
And it took a lot of time,
But the love I diddn't look for,
Is the best I'll ever find
Cause every path I haven't chosen,
Every heart that wasn't true,
Every door that wouldn't open,
Led me straight to you
Every hour I've felt forsaken,
Every storm I've struggled through,
Every chance I've ever taken,
Led me straight to you,
Shut up heart quit messing with my mind,
You've done gone and been proved wrong,
One too many times,
Yeah you're the one who got me,
In this sorry shape I'm in,
Shup up heart, I'll never listen to you again
There's a lady in the vorner,
Think I'll ask her for a dance,
Now let me do the talking,
And we might stand a chance,
I ain't forgot the last time,
You told me what to do,
She ran off and left me stuck,
With a fool like you
Shut up heart quit messing with my mind,
You've done gone and been proved wrong,
One too many times,
Yeah you're the one who got me,
In this sorry shape I'm in,
Shup up heart, I'll never listen to you again
I'll tell her what she wants to hear,
And I don't neat your help,
Don't care what your feelings are,
Just keep 'em to yourself don't want you nowhere near her,
When I try my luck,
You stay out of this tonight,
Keep your big mouth shut
Shut up heart quit messing with my mind,
You've done gone and been proved wrong,
One too many times,
Yeah you're the one who got me,
In this sorry shape I'm in,
Shup up heart, I'll never listen to you again
Shup up heart, I'll never listen to you again
There was never a doubt if I could just hold out,
This is how good love could be
I'd find that special someone lucky me,
I always knew it could happen if
I could only hold on to my heart,
We'd be together forever and never part
I've been saving, saving my love for you,
I've been waiting for the right one to give it to,
All of my life I've dreamed of this day,
When I'd give my heard away,
And to who, I've been saving, saving my love for you
There's always that once in a lifetime
When a love like this comes along,
When something that feels so right just can't be wrong,
That's how I feel today,
A love this strong will never fade away
I've been saving, saving my love for you,
I've been waiting for the right one to give it to,
All of my life I've dreamed of this day,
When I'd give my heard away,
And to who, I've been saving, saving my love for you
All of my life I've dreamed of this day
When I'd give my heart away,
And to who, I've been saving, saving my love for you,
When I was seventeen, immature and green,
I thought I knew the man, I wanted me to be,
I never saw myself, working here this way,
I'd thought I'd make the majors, or be standing on a stage
But sometimes fate can put you,
Where you ought to be,
It brought me here to you,
And now you're all I'll ever need
And my only claim to fame is you,
I'm the best I'll ever be,
Because you're loving me,
You're the hometown crowd,
That stands and cheers,
For everything I do,
My only claim to fame is you
It's funny how things change, when you find someone to love,
The things I used to wish for, no longer mean that much,
I wouldn't trade this life, with anyone on earth,
And all that you have given is more than I deserve
And I'm thankful fate has put me,
Where I ought to be, It brought me here to you,
And now you're all I'll ever need
And my only claim to fame is you,
I'm the best I'll ever be, Because you're loving me,
You're the hometown crowd,
That stands and cheers,
For everything I do,
My only claim to fame is you
I play country music 'cause I'm from back in the woods,
I play rock and roll 'cause it makes me feel good,
I play them ol 'blues to take the load off my mind,
I play what I feel some call that a crime
Lawd if guitars were guns I'd be Jesse James
Stealin' the show like robbin' them old trains
Then I'd run off to my hideout in the cold Missouri rain,
Lawd if guitars were guns I'd be Jesse James
Some make music for the money I make it for the sound,
Hide your dishes and your daughters me and the boys are back in town,
If you think I'm messin' 'round I'm here to tell you that I ain't,
I'm gonna take your heart like money from a bank
Lawd if guitars were guns I'd be Jesse James
Stealin' the show like robbin' them old trains
Then I'd run off to my hideout in the cold Missouri rain,
Searching for some answers about this kind of life,
We knew a man who'd done it all, made the sacrifice,
We told him we were ready,
We thought our time had come,
Then he looked at us and smiled the words rolled off his tongue
Sometimes it's the singer,
And then sometimes it's the song,
Just forget the destination son, it's the journey that you're on,
And the road goes through the honkey tonks,
The dance halls and the bars
The music's here forever boys and heros come and go,
One day you'll be lookin' back farther down the road,
So don't try to take the credit for what's written in the stars,
And don't apologize for who you are
They're livin' proof of what it takes,
Men who ain't afraid to show their scars,
There'll be those who criticize,
There'll be time for compromise,
But don't apologize for who you are,
No, don't apologize for who you are,
No, don't apologize for who you are,
Wounded and weary, he camt riding through our camp, He said, "This war's almost over boys, go on back to Birmingham", But I
still could hear the thunder of the cannons in my head, as I walked 200 miles among the living and the dead
I could only pray I had a home to go home to, Oh, I left my young bride waiting in a path of Union blue, Now visions of her
haunt me on this lonely road tonight, And I'd surrender all of Dixie if I could just hold my...
Confederate Rose, Heaven hold her safe till I get home, And the angels know, She's the sweetest southern flower ever grown
My Confederate Rose
Hey, mister have you seen her, a girl with raven hair, He said, "Look out in the church yard, son, a lot of us are there", A
broken heart will trick a mind and say that she's not gone, But my eyes just couldn't lie about the name there on the stone
Confederate Rose, Confederate Rose
A tender hand upon my shoulder sent a chill all over me, I turned and saw my darling and, cried "Oh, Lord how can this be",
She said, "That's not me a lyin' there, but some you never knew, Oh, I may have named her after me, but she looked just like
you"
Confederate Rose, Heaven hold her safe till we get home, And the angels know
She's the sweetest southern flower ever grown, Our Confederate Rose
Verse 1:
Sun comes up, tide goes out, a new day begins
Palm trees sway, as children play, in the sand
Seagulls fly, across the sky, two by two
Another perfect day for missin' you
Chorus:
I don't see know hope on the horizon
I can't feel no changes in the wind
And even though it is the only thing, that I have to do
Another perfect day for missin' you
Verse 2:
Pretty girls, golden tans, passin' by
I just see, your auburn hair, and emerald eyes
But I can't complain, it never rains, it's always blue
Another perfect day for missin' you
(Chorus)
And even though it is the only thing, that I have to do
