India (i/ˈɪndiə/), officially the Republic of India (Bhārat Gaṇarājya), is a country in South Asia. It is the seventh-largest country by geographical area, the second-most populous country with over 1.2 billion people, and the most populous democracy in the world. Bounded by the Indian Ocean on the south, the Arabian Sea on the south-west, and the Bay of Bengal on the south-east, it shares land borders with Pakistan to the west;China, Nepal, and Bhutan to the north-east; and Burma and Bangladesh to the east. In the Indian Ocean, India is in the vicinity of Sri Lanka and the Maldives; in addition, India's Andaman and Nicobar Islands share a maritime border with Thailand and Indonesia.
Home to the ancient Indus Valley Civilisation and a region of historic trade routes and vast empires, the Indian subcontinent was identified with its commercial and cultural wealth for much of its long history. Four of the world's major religions—Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Sikhism—originated here, whereas Zoroastrianism, Christianity, and Islam arrived in the 1st millennium CE and also helped shape the region's diverse culture. Gradually annexed by and brought under the administration of the British East India Company from the early 18th century and administered directly by the United Kingdom from the mid-19th century, India became an independent nation in 1947 after a struggle for independence that was marked by non-violent resistance led by Mahatma Gandhi.
"When You Were Mine" is a song written and released by Prince on his 1980 album, Dirty Mind. Though not released as a single, the song received a promotional 12" release (which included "Gotta Broken Heart Again" and "Uptown"). "When You Were Mine" was later the B-side for Prince's "Controversy" single in 1981.
Prince has performed the song many times in concert, and a live version was included on his 2002 live album, One Nite Alone... Live!. The original studio version was also included on The Hits/The B-Sides in 1993. Prince said he was inspired to write the rock song while listening to John Lennon. The track is full of guitar licks, and includes a Farfisa-inspired organ sound played on an Oberheim OB-X.
Cyndi Lauper's mid-tempo ballad cover version of "When You Were Mine" is also synthesizer-based for her debut album, She's So Unusual. It was released as the album's seventh and final single from her album. Lauper did not change the pronoun gender in the song lyrics, which caused it to allude that the lost love to whom she is singing is another woman or a gay/bisexual man. Lauper performed the single at the 1985 American Music Awards. It was released exclusively as a promotional single in the United States and receive a commercial release in the Canada and Japan.
"You Were Mine" is a hit song by the Dixie Chicks, from their 1998 album Wide Open Spaces. It was released in December 1998, and hit number one on the U.S. Country singles chart, spending two weeks there in March 1999. It also placed 34th on the Billboard Hot 100 Pop singles chart, and reached third place on Canada's country music chart.
The song was written by 1995 by two of the founders of the original Dixie Chicks band, the Erwin sisters, who were not strangers to writing music and performing (they are now known as Martie Maguire and Emily Robison). Robison wrote most of the song, and Maguire supplied the bridge. It is a very autobiographical song, about the breakup of Robison's and Maguire's parents and their subsequent divorce. In one interview, when asked about it, Robison said that their parents generally "sweep it under the rug", saying, "They know it's about them, but [whispers] we never talk about it. [laughs] They don't want to bring it up because they're still weird around each other. My dad doesn't want to think it's about him, because it doesn't make him look very good, and my mom thinks she's moved on."
India (born March 9, 1969), known also as "La Princesa de la Salsa" (engl. "The Princess of Salsa"), is a singer of salsa and House music. She has been nominated for both Grammy and Latin Grammy awards.
Caballero (birth name: Linda Viera Caballero) was born in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico. Her parents moved to New York City soon after her birth, and settled down in the South Bronx area of the city. They moved in with Caballero's grandmother, a woman who served as an important influence on Caballero's life. Her stage name "India" was given to Caballero by her grandmother because of her dark features and long straight black hair.
In 1985, when Caballero was 14 years old, she was a founding member of the Latin freestyle group TKA and was featured on the cover of TKA's second single, "Come Get My Love". She left shortly thereafter.
Caballero signed a record contract with Reprise/Warner Bros. Records, which planned on marketing her as the Latin version of Madonna (who recorded for sister label Sire Records). After recording the album Breaking Night, Caballero decided that she didn't want to take that route in her career.
Tegan and Sara are a Canadian indie band formed in 1995 in Calgary. Composed of identical twin sisters Tegan Rain Quin and Sara Keirsten Quin (born September 19, 1980). Both Tegan and Sara play guitar and keyboard and write their songs.
Tegan and Sara Quin were born September 19, 1980 in Calgary, Alberta. They began playing guitar and writing songs at age 15. They initially played as Plunk without a drummer or bass player. In 1997, they used their school’s recording studio to record two demo albums: Who's in Your Band? and Play Day. In 1998, they won Calgary's Garage Warz competition, using the studio time they won to record their first professional demo, Yellow tape, which was followed by Orange tape and Red tape.
Two songs from Red tape appeared on their first album, Under Feet Like Ours, which they released independently in 1999 under the name "Sara and Tegan". They later changed their name to "Tegan and Sara" because it was easier to pronounce and reprinted the album using that name. They also wanted their name to stand out amongst the other 'Sara' musicians at the time such as Sarah McLachlan and Sarah Slean. Tegan was easier to remember.[citation needed]Neil Young's manager signed them to Young's Vapor Records label, and they released This Business of Art through Vapor in 2000. They have toured extensively since then.
There You Were
(feat. Mark Anthony)
I was counting down minutes.
I was wishin' on the stars.
I was prayin' for a sign,
And tryin' to beat the odds.
I was dreamin' of you,
Love lbefore I wsaw your face.
And there you were,
Waitin' for that day.
Then you reached through the hurricane,
When youm baby you called me name.
You broke through the storm,
And you turned back the night.
Baby you are the fire,
Burnin' the midnight sky,
And your love,
Keeps taking me higher.
Just when all hope zas gone,
Where the hero belongs...
There you were.
Must have broken into heaven,
Just to roll back the douds.
Were you on a mission.
Were tou seekin me out.
Was I that one in amillion.
Was I that one sacred kiss,
That you couldn't chance,
You just couldn't miss.
thenYou whisperes through the silent tears,
When you swept away all my fears.
You broke through the storm,
And you turned back the night.
Baby you are the fire,
Burnin' the midnight sky,
And your love,
Keeps taking me higher.
Just when all hope zas gone,
Where the hero belongs...
There you were.
Standin' in the middle of nowhere,
With your arms wide open and you,
You were the reason when there was no reason.
In my life
You're the reason in my life.
You broke through the storm,
And you turned back the night.
Baby you are the fire,
Burnin' the midnight sky,
And your love,
Keeps taking me higher.
Just when all hope zas gone,
Where the hero belongs...
There you were.
You broke through the storm,
And you turned back the night.
Baby you are the fire,
Burnin' the midnight sky,
And your love,
Keeps taking me higher.
Just when all hope zas gone,
Where the hero belongs...
There you were.
Like the light in the eye of the storm,
Tellin' me not to cry anymore.
Where I watched my whole world fall apart,
Shinin' through like on angel from afar
You broke through the storm,
And you turned back the night.
Baby you are the fire,
Burnin' the midnight sky,
And your love,
Keeps taking me higher.
Just when all hope zas gone,
Where the hero belongs...
There you were.
If you were the ground beneath my feet
I'd find a way to float or just walk so gently
If you were the star in the night sky
I'd figure out how to fly or just walk with my head
high
They pushed me around, but they haven't knocked me down
Flowers die, so I'll plant a pot inside
Babies grow and buy their own homes
To fill with families of their own
If you were the clouds that bring the shadows
The dark won't make me sad, though I miss you
I'll make shadow puppets and I'll laugh
Because I know you'd love it
And I'll cry a little too
If I were God, I'd destroy all religion
Abolish all divisions and leave the world with love
And I'd probably take you up with me
Because we're selfish here above
Yeah they pushed me around, but they haven't knocked me
down
Flowers die, so I'll plant a pot inside
Babies grow and buy their own homes
To fill with families of their own
We've lost a lot, but we've got much more
And if you need comfort, that's what we're here for
And if the ground shall crumble, and the stars shall
fall
I will hold your hand and we'll both stand tall
They pushed me around, but they haven't knocked me down
Flowers die, so I'll plant a pot inside
Babies grow and buy their own homes
To fill with families of their own
I'm not so scared, I'm not so scared
