Purvanchal is a geographic region of north-central India, which comprises the eastern end of Uttar Pradesh state. It is bounded by Nepal to the north, Indian state Bihar to the east, Bagelkhand region of Madhya Pradesh state to the south, the Awadh region of Uttar Pradesh to the west and the end of Doab (at Allahabad) in Uttar Pradesh to its southwest.

There is a political demand to make it into a separate state, See Aspirant states of India.Purvanchal area is represented by 23 Members of Parliament to the Lok Sabha and 117 legislators in the 403 member Uttar Pradesh state assebly or Vidhan Sabha.

Purvanchal consists chiefly of three divisions—the eastern-Awadhi region in the west, the western-Bhojpuri region in the east and the northern-Baghelkhand region in the south. It lies on the Indo-Gangetic plain, and together with western Bihar is the most densely populated area in the world. The rich quality of soil and the high earthworm density in the soil than adjoining districts of U.P. is favourable for agriculture. Most of the countryside is given to intensive agriculture.Bhojpuri is the predominant language or dialect in the region in addition to Hindi although Awadhi and Baghelkhandi are also spoken in the western and southern areas. Like Bihar state to the east, a large population, slow economic growth, agricultural mechanisation, and the closure of sugar mills have led to increased unemployment, social and political discontent, and some unrest in the region.

In 1991 the government of Uttar Pradesh established the ''Purvanchal Vikas Nidhi'', to fund regional development projects that advance balanced development, meet local needs, and redress regional disparities.

Purvanchal is one of the most backward region of Uttar Pradesh,India because of caste guided political in-fighting, the major issues are of lack of civic infrastructure, proper rural education and employment. Bleak Law and Order is a major area of concern. Purvanchal one of the most prosperous, culturally rich region of India from the ancient Bharatvarsha to modern India has degrated into its present status due to politics on the lines of Cast, Region and Religion. Purvanchal has always been neglected by the Uttar Pradesh Government and Central Government of India.

Britishers were always apprehensive of Purvanchal because of the strong nationalist and pro Independence spirit of the people. Mangal Pandey is one of the most prominent freedom fighter from this region, he was the ture son of Purvanchal. In popular culture Purvanchal is well known as "The land of warriors". The origins of Buddhism and Jainism can also be traced back to this particular part of Inida.

Sonbhadra, a district of Purvanchal, Uttar Pradesh produces 7000MW electricity, almost half of the total electricity genetation in the state of Uttar Pradesh. Varanasi and Kushinagar attaract more tham than 40% of the total tourists visiting Uttar Pradesh. Sant Ravidas Nagar and Mirzapur are major player in the carpet export business. Mirzapur and Sonbhadra are rich in natural resources. Inspite of all this the Purvanchal is still one of the most backward region in the state, mainly because of lack of proper attention by the State Government.

Politicians like Mayawati and Amar Singh are trying to carve out this region from Uttar Pradesh for their political gains. The region has degraded into hub of organised crime and corruption due to lack of adequate education and employment opportunites for the masses.British exploititation of the the people of region far greater than anywhere else in the country because of the peoples strong nationalist and patriotic feelings and their strong opposition towards the British Raj, unfortunately in the present day Purvanchal is being looted and neglected by our own people. People here have a common saying for their backwardness "Mujhe Apno ne loota ,Gairon me kaha dam tha. Meri Kasti vahi doobi,jaha paani bahut kam tha." (Marathi:भरत जाधव) (English:Bharat Jadhav) is a popular Marathi theatre and film actor. He is known as a comedian, particularly when working in commercial Marathi cinema and drama. His play ''Sahi re Sahi'' is one of the most successful Marathi plays ever. He has also starred in ''Shrimant Damodarpant'', ''All the Best'', and ''Aamchya Sarkhe Aamhich''.

He began his acting career in 1985, when he joined ''Maharashtrachi Lokdhara'' dance troupe, under the guidance of Sahir Sable.

Suresh Ishwar Wadkar (, born 1954) is an Indian playback singer. He performs in both Hindi and Marathi films.He has sung songs in some Bhojpuri Films.

Early life

Suresh Wadkar was born in Kolhapur, India. At the age of 8, he began acquiring basic music education from Jialal Vasant. He soon impressed his guru with the quality of his voice. He began performing on the stage at a very early age.

Music Teaching life

Back in 1968, when Suresh Wadkar was barely 13, Acharya Jialal Vasant entrusted him with a student to initiate in Tabla. A year later, he was given the responsibility of a group of youngsters to teach vocal classical. Our system of education in music makes it mandatory to teach before you appear for your graduation in music through Prayag Sangit Samiti, because there “Prabhakar” certificate is equivalent to B. Ed. and it authorizes you to teach professionally. Guruji made every child studying for Senior Diploma, to sit in the class of 1st year with an experienced teacher and learn the process of “teaching”. Suresh successfully completed his “Prabhakar” and joined “Arya Vidya Mandir, Mumbai as a music teacher. A lot of famous “stars” of today had the opportunity to learn from him.

Acharya Jialal Vasant, announced during his felicitation function organized by his students on May 1985. He said, “We continuously talk about the benefits one enjoys when one is blessed with a good Guru. But let me tell you, that every Guru looks for at least one student, who can take his torch forward. I have been, I must say, very fortunate to get ‘the’ student; I have always looked for in Suresh. I am fully confident that he will leave no stone unturned to accomplish what I desire the most – to attain excellence both as a singer & a teacher. I feel that my mission is fulfilled.”

He has a music school in Mumbai, India (www.ajivasan.com) and New Jersey/New York, USA (www.sureshwadkarmusic.com) where methodical training is given to students.

Suresh Wadkar added a new chapter in his Music life when he started the First Online Music teaching school "SWAMA" (Suresh Wadkar Ajivasan Music Academy) under Ace Open University.

Singing career

Though groomed for Indian classical music, he entered the Sur-Singar competition in 1976. Wadkar won the competition which was judged by composers from the Indian film industry including Jaidev. Jaidev later offered him the song "Seene Mein Jalan" in the film ''Gaman'' (released in 1978). He also performed in the film ''Paheli'' (released 1977).

At the time, Lata Mangeshkar was so impressed with his voice that she strongly recommended him to film personalities including Laxmikant-Pyarelal, Khayyam and Kalyanji-Anandji. Laxmikant-Pyarelal, impressed with his voice, soon recorded a duet with Lata "Chal Chameli Bagh Mein" for ''Krodhi'' (released in 1981). Soon after, he was given the opportunity to perform for songs in ''Hum Paanch'', ''Pyaasa Sawan'' ("Megha re Megha Re") and above all, his turning point in films - Raj Kapoor's ''Prem Rog'' (released in 1982).

Wadkar also produced the film ''Tanman.com''. He was a judge on the Indian TV singing show ''Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Little Champs International'' and at the 2005 Sanjeet Awards.

Suresh Wadkar has for the first time sung a song in the upcoming Tamil film ''Kanden Kadhalai''. This film is an adaptation of the Hindi Blockbuster ''Jab We Met''. The song is a ghazal type song called "Naan Mozhi Arindhaen".

His voice has been acknowledged to have a quality for devotional songs. He has sung numerous devotional songs in various languages.

In a recent program, Suresh Wadkar gave credit to Ravindra Jain for shaping his singing career.

Awards

In 1976, Wadkar won the Madan Mohan Best Male Singer Award at the Sur-Singar competition.

He also won the 2007 Maharashtra Pride Award which is given by the government of Maharashtra to citizens of note.

He is also a recipient of the Lata Mangeshkar Puraskar instituted by Madhya Pradesh government.

In 2011, he won the National Award for Best Male Playback Singer for Mee Sindhutai Sapkal (Marathi).

Roberts Gobziņš (born 13 July 1964 in Riga, Latvian SSR), also known as Eastbam or East Bam (as a result of his artistic connections with Westbam) is a Latvian musician, DJ, MC, radio personality and parliamentary candidate. He is best known as a member or collaborator with numerous bands (Dzeltenie Pastnieki, NSRD, Diskomforts, 19 gadi pirms sākuma, Kaija, CSK, Dzidriņas Megasistēma, Smalkie Regeji, Los Amigos, Resnie Putni) and, throughout the 1990s, as a nationally successful solo artist.

He became a pioneer of Latvian language rap music in 1982 by including a rap interlude on Dzeltenie Pastnieki song "''Bezcerīgā dziesma''" on the album ''Man ļoti patīk jaunais vilnis'' and later releasing the first-ever Latvian rap 12-inch single ("''Aka Aka''") on Westbam's Low Spirit label. Performing live in Germany, he has shared the bill with De La Soul and the Jungle Brothers. In 1997, the avant-garde opera ''Rolstein on the Beach'' featured Gobziņš in the role of "The Son of Rothschild". In 2003, Gobziņš took part in "Aka Hip Aka Hop", a collaboration with A.G., Raitis, Guiseppe and Gustavo, celebrating the history of the local scene. He again was the opening act for De La Soul on December 11, 2004 in Riga.
