Quintus Horatius Flaccus (8 December 65 BC – 27 November 8 BC), known in the English-speaking world as Horace, was the leading Roman lyric poet during the time of Augustus. The rhetorician Quintillian regarded his Odes as almost the only Latin lyrics worth reading, justifying his estimate with the words: "He can be lofty sometimes, yet he is also full of charm and grace, versatile in his figures, and felicitously daring in his choice of words."
Horace also crafted elegant hexameter verses (Sermones and Epistles) and scurrilous iambic poetry (Epodes). The hexameters are playful and yet serious works, leading the ancient satirist Persius to comment: "as his friend laughs, Horace slyly puts his finger on his every fault; once let in, he plays about the heartstrings". Some of his iambic poetry, however, can seem wantonly repulsive to modern audiences.
His career coincided with Rome's momentous change from Republic to Empire. An officer in the republican army that was crushed at the Battle of Philippi in 42 BC, he was befriended by Octavian's right-hand man in civil affairs, Maecenas, and became something of a spokesman for the new regime. For some commentators, his association with the regime was a delicate balance in which he maintained a strong measure of independence (he was "a master of the graceful sidestep") but for others he was, in John Dryden's phrase, "a well-mannered court slave".
Bruce Lorne Campbell (born June 22, 1958) is an American film and television actor. As a cult movie actor, Campbell starred as Ashley J. "Ash" Williams in Sam Raimi's Evil Dead series of films and he has starred in many low-budget cult films such as Crimewave, Maniac Cop, Bubba Ho-tep, Escape From L.A. and Sundown: The Vampire in Retreat. He would later spoof his B-movie career in My Name Is Bruce, in which he starred and directed. He has since made appearances in films including Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and Cars 2.
In television, Campbell is known for his lead role in The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr., his portrayal of Autolycus (the King of Thieves) in Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Xena: Warrior Princess, and notably for his role as Sam Axe on the USA Network series Burn Notice.
Campbell was born in Royal Oak, Michigan, the son of Joanne Louise (née Pickens), a homemaker, and Charles Newton Campbell, an amateur actor and traveling billboard inspector. Bruce Campbell is of Scottish descent. He has an older brother, Don, and an older half-brother, Michael Rendine.
Horace Andy (born Horace Hinds on 19 February 1951) is a roots reggae songwriter and singer, known for his distinctive vocals and hit songs such as "Government Land", "Angel", "Five Man Army" and a cover version of "Ain't No Sunshine".
Horace Silver (born September 2, 1928), born Horace Ward Martin Tavares Silva in Norwalk, Connecticut, is an American jazz pianist and composer.
Silver is known for his distinctive humorous and funky playing style and for his pioneering compositional contributions to hard bop. He was influenced by a wide range of musical styles, notably gospel music, African music, and Latin American music and sometimes ventured into the soul jazz genre.
His father, who was known as John Tavares Silva, was from the island of Maio in Cape Verde. His mother was born in New Canaan, Connecticut, and was of Irish-African descent.
Silver began his career as a tenor saxophonist but later switched to piano. His tenor saxophone playing was highly influenced by Lester Young, and his piano style by Bud Powell. Silver was discovered in the Sundown Club in Hartford, Connecticut. in 1950 by saxophonist Stan Getz. Getz was playing at the club with Silver’s trio backing him up. Getz liked Silver’s band and brought them on the road, eventually recording three of Silver’s compositions. It was with Getz that Silver made his recording debut.
Arthur "Art" Blakey (October 11, 1919 – October 16, 1990), known later as Abdullah Ibn Buhaina, was an American Grammy Award-winning jazz drummer and bandleader. He was a member of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community.
Along with Kenny Clarke and Max Roach, he was one of the inventors of the modern bebop style of drumming. He is known as a powerful musician and a vital groover; his brand of bluesy, funky hard bop was and continues to be profoundly influential on mainstream jazz. For more than 30 years his band, Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, included many young musicians who went on to become prominent names in jazz. The band's legacy is thus not only known for the music it produced, but as a proving ground for several generations of jazz musicians; Blakey's groups are matched only by those of Miles Davis in this regard.
Blakey was inducted into the Jazz Hall of Fame (in 1982), the Grammy Hall of Fame (in 2001), and was awarded the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005.
Blakey was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. By the time he was a teenager, he was playing the piano full-time, leading a commercial band. Shortly afterwards, reputedly because he thought he would be unable to compete with the emerging pianist Erroll Garner, he taught himself to play the drums in the aggressive swing style of Chick Webb, Sid Catlett and Ray Bauduc. He joined Mary Lou Williams as a drummer for an engagement in New York in autumn 1942. He then toured with the Fletcher Henderson Orchestra (1939–1942). During his years with Billy Eckstine’s big band (1944–7), Blakey became associated with the bebop movement, along with his fellow band members Miles Davis, Dexter Gordon, Fats Navarro and others.
Horace:
Hello, Dolly!
Well, hello, Dolly!
It's so nice to have you here
Where you belong
I never knew Dolly
Without you, Dolly
Life was awfully flat
And more than that
Was awfully wrong
Dolly:
Here's my hat, Horace!
I'm staying where I’m at, Horace!
Dolly will never go away...
Horace:
Wonderful woman!
Both:
Again. . .
Townspeople:
Put on you Sunday clothes
When you feel dawn and out
Strut down the street and have your picture took
Dressed like a dream your spirits seem to turn about
That Sunday shine is a certain sign
That you feel as fine as you look!
Take the someone whose arms you're in
Hold onto her tight and spin
And one two three, one two three, one two three
Look!
Cornelius:
I held her
For an instant
But my arms felt sure and strong
ALL:
It only takes a moment
To be loved a whole life long...
Men:
Yes, it takes a woman
A dainty woman
A sweetheart, a mistress, a wife
Oh yes, It takes a woman
A fragile woman
To bring you the sweet things
In life!
All:
Well, well, hello, Dolly!
Well, hello, Dolly!
It' so nice to have you back
Where you belong
You're looking swell, Dolly!
We can tell, Dolly!
You're still glowin’
You're still crowin’
You're still goin’ strong
You'll see the crowd swayin’
For the band's playin’
One of your old favorite songs
From way back when
Dolly
Wow, wow, wow, fellas
Look at the old girl now, fellas!
Chorus
Dolly, you’ll never go away
Dolly, you’ll never go away
Dolly, you’ll never go away
Again!
HELLO DOLLY, 1969

As around and around you go
Your spirits will hit the top
And now that we're dancing
Who cares if we ever stop
He held her for an instant
But his arms felt sure and strong
It only takes a moment
To be loved a whole life long...

Your beads and buckles and bows
For there's no blue Monday in your Sunday clothes!
Well, well, well

Everyday in our bones the feeling of being fucked with beyond tired sick of this bull shit
What the hell is with all this were gonna change this
Twisting our minds with the lies
I don't ever want to be in a world of make believe
I don't ever want to change myself just like you 'cause
Kicking us down with the lies ain't gonna change me
Kicking us down with the lies within in your company
Kicking us down with the lies ain't gonna change nothing
If I could fly across the sea let someone else deal with all this
If I could rape anyone that pleased me I'd be just like you
Twisted our minds with the lies ain't gonna change me twisting' our minds with the lies
'cause we can't let go of armor built inside no more weakness eyes wide open what you represent
I feel sickness coming on no more weakness eyes wide open
[DJ Quik]
One day I was chillin on Aranbe and Spruce
Forty in my hand and it's time to get loose
Got my Nikes, Fila t-shirt, and black khakis
I heard a horn blowin' and I jumped in my jacket
Sean was chillin' in the passenger seat
Stepped up out the car and started dancing in the street
Now Sean was lookin' fresh and it wasn't no joke
He had on some fresh khakis and was sportin' some locs
Some gangstas poppin' wheelies came up from behind
He got off throwin' up his favorite gang sign
Here come Little Snub, from the Maple block
Groovin' on the handlebars, ready to rock
And now my posse's gettin' bigger, 'cuz of all these niggas
I got the .38 and I'm about to pull the trigger
Looked up at the corner and who did I see?
Wayne and his little man Pop and Nookie
Now Sha came rollin' up on a little scooter
Lookin' for a match so he could light the Thai huddha
I told him I didn't have it, but yet I went to grab it
I lit it up and hit it up, and now I'm draggin' it
Wayne took a hit, Pop took a puff
Nookie started chokin' and now he's fucked up
The forty-ounce is hittin', so I busted into school
I'm never gettin' sweated 'cuz I'm just too cool fool
Sun's goin' down and now it's night
My posse's cold chillin' and we're feelin' alright
We heard a lot of noise and it sounded like a rally
Boomin' ass sounds comin' out of Sherm Alley
We all jumped up and we started to stroll
A young nigga like the Quiksta was takin' control
The D.E.A. posse so deep we walked three 2's
Now if you wanna join -- then you gotta pay ya dues
We got up to the alley and everything was chill
They was just makin' that dollar dollar bill
Reesa came down and she sat on the stairs
I stood up 'cuz I didn't have a chair
Now Pop said, "Yo! Let's get some cuts.
Get that Old 8 so we can get fucked up."
Now I'll put a twenty H put a 10
and said, "Fuck it! Super soca and gin!"
Now everybody's gettin' in the twilight zone
Head up stairs and they're gettin' weirdo
Gangsta's on the steps and he's tryin' to bang
No belt in his khakis so his Lee's could sag
Here comes Stick with a 20 dollar bag
But he can't roll a joint cuz he ain't got no zigzags
I looked up at my watch, it said 10:28
"You better run up to the liquor store before it's too late."
He went to the store and he got the zags
He came back walkin' with my homeboy Cash
Sucka came over; he was lookin for a ride
Runnin' from the police, he ain't have no place to hide
A smile came on my face when I swallowed my beer
I'm chillin' like a villian and I got no fear
Now Tony Lane came; he said he was bored
Eatin' on some chips that he got from the store
I said I'm bored too, so what's up with that?
Wayne said, "is anyone down to jack?
Now I can get the AK and you can get the pump,
But I don't want no deuce-deuce, cuz I ain't no chump"
Now Mike said, "Dane which one do you choose?"
"I could take the .38 and you can have the Uze."
But before we can jet and be on our way
Some niggas rolled up and they was ready to spray
Rollin' real slow, they turned off the lights
Waitin' -- until the time was right
A fool jumped out all dressed in Guess?
*gunshot* (Yeah) shot him in the chest
The niggas tried to jet, but the couldn't get far
Cuz Mike had the uzi and he aimed it for the car
*gunshots*
Ha Ha
Now that's how it's done and we do it good
Just another day in my loked out hood
Now all y'all remember that we can't be stopped
What's the name of my hood? *gunshots*
(Ha ha haha)
