The Borgias, also known as the Borjas, Borjia, were a European Papal family of Italian and Spanish origin with the name stemming from the familial fief seat of Borja belonging to their Aragonese Lords; they became prominent during the Renaissance. The Borgias were patrons of the arts, and their support allowed many artists of the Renaissance to realize their potential. The most brilliant personalities of this era regularly visited their court.
The Borgias became prominent in ecclesiastical and political affairs in the 1400s and 1500s. They produced two popes during this period, Alfons de Borja who ruled as Pope Calixtus III during 1455–1458, and Rodrigo Lanzol Borgia, as Pope Alexander VI, during 1492–1503. Today they are remembered for their corrupt rule during the reign of Alexander VI. They have been accused of many different crimes, including adultery, simony, theft, rape, bribery, incest, and murder (especially murder by arsenic poisoning). Because of their search for power, they made enemies of other powerful families such as the Medici and the Sforza, as well as the influential Dominican friar Savonarola.
Lucrezia Borgia (Italian pronunciation: [luˈkrɛttsja ˈbɔrdʒa]; 18 April 1480 – 24 June 1519) was the illegitimate daughter of Rodrigo Borgia, the powerful Renaissance Valencian who later became Pope Alexander VI, and Vannozza dei Cattanei. Her brothers included Cesare Borgia, Giovanni Borgia, and Gioffre Borgia. It is often suggested that Cesare and Lucrezia may have had an incestuous relationship.
Lucrezia's family later came to epitomize the ruthless Machiavellian politics and sexual corruption alleged to be characteristic of the Renaissance Papacy. Lucrezia was cast as a femme fatale, a role she has been portrayed as in many artworks, novels, and films.
Very little is known of Lucrezia, and the extent of her complicity in the political machinations of her father and brothers is unclear. They certainly arranged several marriages for her to important or powerful men in order to advance their own political ambitions. Lucrezia was married to Giovanni Sforza (Lord of Pesaro), Alfonso of Aragon (Duke of Bisceglie), and Alfonso I d'Este (Duke of Ferrara). Tradition has it that Alfonso of Aragon was an illegitimate son of the King of Naples and that her brother Cesare may have had him murdered after his political value waned.
Cesare Borgia (Italian pronunciation: [ˈtʃɛzare ˈbɔrdʒa]; Spanish: César Borja, [ˈθe.sar ˈβor.xa]; 13 September 1475 or April 1476 – 12 March 1507), Duke of Valentinois, was an Italiancondottiero, nobleman, politician, and cardinal. He was the son of Pope Alexander VI and his long-term mistress Vannozza dei Cattanei. He was the brother of Lucrezia Borgia; Giovanni Borgia (Juan), Duke of Gandia; and Gioffre Borgia (Jofré in Catalan), Prince of Squillace. He was half-brother to Don Pedro Luis de Borja (1460–88) and Girolama de Borja, children of unknown mothers.
Like nearly all aspects of Cesare Borgia's life, the date of his birth is a subject of dispute. He was born in Rome—in either 1475 or 1476— the son of Cardinal Rodrigo de Lanzol y Borgia, soon to become Pope Alexander VI, and his mistress Vannozza dei Cattanei, about whom information is sparse. The Borgia family originally came from the Kingdom of Valencia, and rose to prominence during the mid-15th century; Cesare's great-uncle Alonso Borgia (1378–1458), bishop of Valencia, was elected Pope Callixtus III in 1455. Cesare's father, Pope Alexander VI, was the first pope who openly recognized his children by a lover.
May the road rise up to meet you
May the wind be always at your back
May the sun shine warm upon your face now
May the rains fall soft upon your fields
And until we meet again
And until we meet again
May God hold you in the palm of his hand
May God hold you in the palm of his hand
May our children and their descendants
Be the ones to find a lasting peace
May their hopes and dreams become united
May the past be left for those who hate
And until we meet again
And until we meet again
May love and trust find a way to make a stand
May love and trust find a way to make a stand
May the road rise up to meet you
May the wind be always at your back
May the sun shine warm upon your face
May the rains fall soft upon your fields
May this world and all its wonders
Be a home to all humanity
May the people find a common purpose
May we help one another to survive
And until we meet again
And until we meet again
May Mother Earth pour her heart into our land
Old Joe Clark the preacher's son
Preached all over the plain
The only text he even knew
Was high, low, jack and the game
Round and around Old Joe Clark
Round and around I say
He followed me ten thousand miles
to hear my fiddle play
Round and around Old Joe Clark
Round and around I say
Round and around Old Joe Clark
Round and around I play
Round and around Old Joe Clark
Round and around I say
He followed me ten thousand miles
To hear my fiddle play
I tried My Best to make you mine
But I Don't Know How to connect This Line
And Maybe this is not the time
Cause I know we're not on the same rhyme
I hope You're always there
Listening when I share
But how can I touch Your hair
If you don't even care
I can't get you out of my mind
While my heart beats fast on the same time
You see, I"m so sincere to you
But I don't know how can't I get trough
You make me feel high
When I'm going to sigh
You're always make me laugh
With my teary eye
Please hold me so tight
When I start to fly
Don't ever Let me go cause I'll take you
To The Sky
And even though you always make me cry
Now you broke up my heart
And It's gonna die
I will do my best to make it up to you
So that I can get trough
I'm standing here in front of your door
Thinking of you more and more
I'm wondering what you're doing now
And what is all about
You make me feel high
When I'm going to sigh
You're always make me laugh
With my teary eye
Please hold me so tight
When I start to fly
Don't ever Let me go cause I'll take you
To The Sky
And even though you always make me cry
Now you broke up my heart
And It's gonna die
I will give my all to let you know
That I LOVE YOU SO!
