A mantra (Devanāgarī: मन्त्र; Tib.སྔགས་ ngak; Wyl. sngags) is a sound, syllable, word, or group of words that is considered capable of "creating transformation" (cf. spiritual transformation). Its use and type varies according to the school and philosophy associated with the mantra.
Mantras (Devanāgarī मन्त्र) originated in the Vedic tradition of India, becoming an essential part of the Hindu tradition and a customary practice within Buddhism, Sikhism, and Jainism.
In the context of the Vedas, the term mantra refers to the entire portion which contains the texts called Rig, Yajur or Sama, that is, the metrical part as opposed to the prose Brahmana commentary. With the transition from ritualistic Vedic traditions to mystical and egalitarian Hindu schools of Yoga, Vedanta, Tantra and Bhakti, the orthodox attitude of the elite nature of mantra knowledge gave way to spiritual interpretations of mantras as a translation of the human will or desire into a form of action.
For the authors of the Hindu scriptures of the Upanishads, the syllable Om, itself constituting a mantra, represents Brahman, the godhead, as well as the whole of creation. Kūkai suggests that all sounds are the voice of the Dharmakaya Buddha — i.e. as in Hindu Upanishadic and Yogic thought, these sounds are manifestations of ultimate reality, in the sense of sound symbolism postulating that the vocal sounds of the mantra have inherent meaning independent of the understanding of the person uttering them.
Deva Premal (born in 1970 in Nürnberg, Germany) is a musician known for her meditative spiritual New Age music which puts ancient Sanskrit mantras into atmospheric contemporary settings.
Deva met her partner in life and music, Miten, at the Osho Ashram in Pune, India in 1990, and they have been touring together since 1992, offering concerts and chant workshops worldwide.
Best known for her top-selling chant CDs, Deva is a classically trained musician who grew up singing mantras in a German home permeated with Eastern spirituality. Her albums have topped the New Age charts throughout the world since her first release, The Essence, featuring the Gayatri Mantra. Deva & Miten's record company, Prabhu Music, reports sales of over 900,000 albums.
Deva began her journey with mantra in her mother's womb, as her father chanted the Gayatri Mantra, one of the most sacred mantras of Hinduism, to her daily, and it continued to be her bedtime lullaby after she was born. Many years later, she heard a friend singing the Gayatri and was inspired to put together an album featuring it. She and Miten recorded The Essence in her mother's apartment in Germany, the same one in which she was born and where her parents had sung the Gayatri Mantra to her years before.
David Eric "Dave" Grohl (born January 14, 1969) is an American rock musician, multi-instrumentalist, and singer-songwriter, who is the lead vocalist, guitarist, primary songwriter and founder of the Foo Fighters, prior to which he was the drummer in the grunge band Nirvana. He is also the drummer and co-founder of the rock supergroup Them Crooked Vultures. Grohl has additionally written all the music and performed all the instruments for his short-lived side projects Late! and Probot, as well as being involved with Queens of the Stone Age numerous times throughout the past decade. He has performed session work (as a drummer) for a variety of musicians, including Garbage, Killing Joke, Nine Inch Nails, The Prodigy, Slash, Juliette Lewis, Tenacious D, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, and Lemmy Kilmister.
As a child, Grohl's family relocated from Warren, Ohio, to Springfield, Virginia, a suburb of Washington, D.C. Three years later, when Grohl was six, his parents divorced, and Grohl grew up living with his mother.
Joshua Michael Homme ( /ˈhɒ.mi/ HO-mee, see below; born May 17, 1973) is an American rock musician, and record producer. He was the guitarist and a former member of the stoner rock band Kyuss, as well as the founding and only continuous member of the hard rock band Queens of the Stone Age (aka QOTSA), in which he sings, plays guitar, and serves as the band's primary songwriter. He co-founded and occasionally performs with Eagles of Death Metal as its drummer, and continues to produce and release a musical improv series with other musicians, mostly from the Palm Desert Scene, known as The Desert Sessions. In 2009, he appeared in a new project called Them Crooked Vultures with Dave Grohl and John Paul Jones. Them Crooked Vultures released their debut album in 2009. In 2010, Homme concentrated his efforts on Them Crooked Vultures over all other projects.
Homme was born in Joshua Tree, California and grew up in Palm Desert. He began playing guitar at age 9 after his parents denied his wishes for a drum kit. He joined his first band, Autocracy, in his youth at age 12.
Michael Trent Reznor (born May 17, 1965) is an American singer–songwriter, composer, and record producer. As both a vocalist and a multi-instrumentalist, Reznor has led the industrial rock project Nine Inch Nails beginning in 1988, and as of 2010 he and his wife, Mariqueen Maandig, are also members of the post-industrial band How to Destroy Angels alongside fellow composer Atticus Ross, with whom Reznor has scored two films. Reznor was previously associated with the bands Option 30, Exotic Birds, and Tapeworm, among others. Reznor left Interscope Records in 2007, and is now an independent recording artist.
Reznor began creating music early in his life, and cites his Western Pennsylvania childhood as an early influence. After being involved with a number of synthesizer-based bands in the mid-80s, Reznor gained employment at Right Track Studios in Cleveland, Ohio and began creating his own music during the studio's closing hours under the moniker Nine Inch Nails. Reznor's first release as Nine Inch Nails, Pretty Hate Machine (1989), was a commercial and critical success, and he has since released seven major studio releases. Outside of Reznor's chief project Nine Inch Nails, he has contributed to many other artists' albums, including Marilyn Manson and Saul Williams. In 1997, Reznor appeared in Time magazine's list of the year's most influential people, and in Spin magazine he was described as "the most vital artist in music."
instumental
Earth can be a lonely place
Blank stares on the people's face
I contemplate their pointless chase
That traps me and my friends
Is this the place where I belong?
Where did we go wrong?
Will it last real long?
Are you too singing this song?
Sometimes I feel it
Sometimes I feel all so alone
And yes yes I must confess
I feel so far from home
Mantra take me home I trust you
Mantra take me home
Take me to the place where I belong
Life's a puzzle the thoughtful solve
But most choose not to get involved
Because of this we don't envolve
Just look around my friend
And life's meaning can be hard to grasp
All that's certain is it won't last
We're all spirits looking for transcendence
Oh mantra grant me tha independence
Inside you, Feel free
Inside you, Come out
Be there, Within
Dictate, Your needs
A thousand dreams within
Within me sofetly burn
They burn the savage soul
Tat twisted what it learned
I feel this life slipping by
I can fell this life slipping by
Desire is a state
A state of ill repair
It's ill prepared to cope
It's ill prepared to care
I feel this life slipping by
I can fell this life slipping by
Time and time life's left me only
Feeling sick and feeling scared
Now my love is strong
My love is strong
I'll go on and on and on and on and on
Mercy is the cry of the soul that stirred
Beneath the creeping vine
A flower trys to change its tries to satisfy
It's thrist without the rains
I fell this change coming on
I can feel this change coming on
Time and time life's left me only
Feeling sick and feeling scared
Now love is strong my love is strong
I'll go on and on and on and on and on
Ercy is the cry of the soul that stirred
Mercy is the cry and it's never heard
Love is all we have
a thousand dreams within
within me softly burn
they burn the savage soul
that twisted what it learned
i feel this life slipping by
i can feel this life slipping by
desire is a state
a state of ill repair
it's ill prepared to cope
it's ill prepared to care
i feel this life slipping by
i can feel this life slipping by
time and time life's left me only
feeling sick and feeling scared
now my love is strong
my love is strong
i'll go on and on and on and on
and on
mercy is the cry of the soul that stirred
beneath the creeping vine
a flower tries to change
it tries to satisfy
it's thirst without the rains
i feel this change coming on
i can feel this change coming on
time and time life's left me only
feeling sick and feeling scared
now love is strong my love is strong
i'll go on and on and on and on
and on
mercy is the cry of the soul that stirred
mercy is the cry and it's never heard
love is all we have
love is all we need
I've been down so long
Nothing ever changes
No matter how much I try
Got neighbours in my head
They're constantly arguing
About each step I take
My hands move like rattlesnakes
And my fingers fumble
Like they've just been invented
I bleed through the faking truth
I don't understand
All you fools
I keep drinking wine
Alone in the dark
You know the last drink
Is always the saddest
I have enough pills
To take me home
'Cos this neighbour's song is doing it too slow
If there's something to die for
If there's something to cry your heart out for
When the times are hard don't walk away from me
Civilians are scared
The mechanism failed to produce all one of a kind
Now we all won't fall back into the line
You said nothing's worth a fight no more
And every day is the same
But I will never close my eyes again
You think every word is said and all the passion is fed
The cogwheels spit the timebombs faster
So you kneel down and obey the master
Fed up with the word and all it's lies
Can't come up with a better way to say it
If there's something to die for
If there's something to cry for
Your love is like a mantra,
Beating deep inside my heart.
Silent in the shadows,
Like a flame within the dark.
Your love is like a mantra,
No beginning and no end.
Leading me back home to you,
Again and again and again.
Your love is like a mantra,
Beating deep inside my heart.
Silent in the shadows,
Like a flame within the dark.
Your love is like a mantra,
No beginning and no end.
Leading me back home to you,
Again and again and again.
Leading me back home to you,
Again,
And again,
And again,
Again.
Again.

(Chorus) Mantra
if i am lonely the shallow motif i know i don't belong,
but you won't really see the real me before you hear my songs,
cause i am lonely but don't mistake me or think that i ain't strong,
i know you think you know me, but you don't know me, and you have
got me wrong.
(Verse 1) Mantra
i'd be lying if i said i was a perfect man,
i try to tell 'em i never had no dirty hands,
in all honesty i've been in the corner before,
its all par for the course in accordance with the plan,
more than what you would've gathered from a first glance,
more often than not would you be the one to stand,
anonymous anomaly with no apology,
an oddity, with a division of psychology,
my inner demons are whittled with dichotomies,
a "Ripley's; Believe It Or Not" ideology,
striving to find the right philosophy,
all the while fine tuning the live policies,
intercepted on the regular; constantly,
as if the interjections are involuntary,
and i'd love to think that i ain't let it bother me,
but everywhere i go the self doubt follow me,
(Chorus) Mantra
if i am lonely the shallow motif i know i don't belong,
but you won't really see the real me before you hear my songs,
cause i am lonely but don't mistake me or think that i ain't strong,
i know you think you know me, but you don't know me, and you have
got me wrong.
(Verse 2) Mantra
no wonder i'm nervous and anxious,
when all i see is a world full of maggots,
early impressions, knee-jerk reactions,
trivial materials'll serve as attachments,
bout to lose my brain to migraines,
as my faint interest wanes and migrates,
seems to me we all weak at the knees,
and eager to please somebody we could never appease,

(Verse 3) Mantra
Yo, Yo,
not the type to want to battle a stranger,
music the preferred method of channeling anger,
deep thought, 24 channels and man i seen more,
than the average man should've had to endure,
sure i can act flamboyant and sure, its sorta for my own enjoyment,
but never would let it affect my love for the music
i'm playing it humble in front of my muses,
you just see a character portrayed on stage but if you got it figured out,
you got the inside word on what i think about,
what the gossip and scandal, what the ins and outs,
what the screw, what the juice, wanna ring it out,
wanna talk quick until you out of breath
all the talk it'll be my death,
unimpressed with the methods, so i'll render with the rhythm in
humanity,
more than you ever could mean it living in a fantasy
