Toby is a popular male name in many English speaking countries. The name is ultimately derived from Hebrew אלוהים הוא טוב Elohim hu Tov and roughly translates as "The Lord is Good". The name is now often used in its own right, but originated as a contraction of Tobias. It is also used as a contraction of Tobit, Tobin (an Irish surname now also used as a forename), or Tobermory.

Toby was the name of a black slave, whose descendant the author Alex Haley wrote the novel Roots: The Saga of an American Family about his roots in Africa, his ancestor's life of struggle for freedom in American society. Toby was often used as a name for slaves in the United States.

In The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien "Toby" is used as a contraction of the hobbit name "Tobold", and "Old Toby" is used as a name for a type of tobacco.

Toby also became a generic name for a "learned pig", a type of performing pig supposed to display intellectual abilities.

Old Toby (died 1858), whose name was Pikee Queenah (Swooping Eagle), was war chief of the Tuziyammo (Big Lodge) band of Western Shoshone and a Shoshone dog soldier.

He served as a guide for the later part of Lewis and Clark Expedition in 1805, as did Tetoharsky and Twisted Hair. He guided Clark's exploration of the Salmon River and led the entire party from the Lemhi River Valley at Salmon, Idaho, over the Bitterroot Mountains to the Bitterroot Valley, and then over the Lolo Trail to the Clearwater River country above Lewiston, Idaho.

He left the expedition and returned home. Nez Perce Indians relayed that he stole horses and returned home. He died of typhoid in 1858.

Thomas Rees' journal gives his name as Tobe, an abbreviation of Tosa-tive koo-be, meaning "furnished white white-man brains," referring to his work as their guide. He was simply called Toby, but the moniker "Old Toby" was added later in popular literature.

A monument was erected is his honor in the 1930s but demolished during construction of US Highway 93. A new monument was erected in his honor in North Fork, Idaho, near Highway 93 and the Salmon River Road in 2009.

Edwin Laureano Rosa Vazquez (October 15, 1981), known mononymously as Ñengo Flow is a Puerto Rican reggaetón and hip hop singer and composer. He was born in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico and grew up in Bayamón, Puerto Rico where he would get his start in the music business. It was there that from a young age he would develop interest in the world of urban music. His lyric content came from personal experiences in his neighborhood with other children and classmates. It is not until age 14 when Edwin Rosa was first presented on stage in the neighborhood where he lived in a community movement. There he discovered his mission and dream in life to be an advocate of life in the neighborhood and the streets in his town vent to his experiences in his lyrics.^[1]

After a few years the name “Ñengo Flow,” became known, baptizing the name as a subject of his community. His beginnings as an artist started by releasing a mixtape with colleagues and friends. It came to be heard on Univision. This allowed him to easily release his first studio album Flow Callejero in 2005. He would continue to release mixtapes including El Combo Que No Se Deja in 2008 and La Verdadera Calle in 2009. He would also appear on various reggaetón and hip hop compilation albums including Los Anormales (2004), Sangre Nueva (2005), DJ Joe - Abusando del Género (2006). In 2011, he launched his highly acclaimed mixtape Real G4 Life and in 2012 Real G4 Life 2 as well as a Real G4 Life 2.5. Real G4 Life 2 peaked at number 75 on the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart while the 2.5 edition peaked at number 61 on the same chart.^[2] Also in 2012, he would appear on various artists' album including Ivy Queen's Musa while also providing uncredited vocals to the song "La Killer".^[3]^[4]

Toby Keith Covel (born July 8, 1961) best known as Toby Keith, is an American country music singer-songwriter, record producer and actor. Keith released his first four studio albums — 1993's Toby Keith, 1994's Boomtown, 1996's Blue Moon and 1997's Dream Walkin', plus a Greatest Hits package for various divisions of Mercury Records before leaving Mercury in 1998. These albums all earned gold or higher certification, and produced several chart singles, including his debut "Should've Been a Cowboy", which topped the country charts and was the most played country song of the 1990s. The song has received three million spins since then, according to Broadcast Music Incorporated.

Signed to Nashville DreamWorks in 1998, Keith released his breakthrough single "How Do You Like Me Now?!" that year. This song, the title track to his 1999 album of the same name, was the Number One country song of 2000, and one of several chart-toppers during his tenure on DreamWorks Nashville. His next three albums, Pull My Chain, Unleashed, and Shock'n Y'all, produced three more Number Ones each, and all of the albums were certified multi-platinum. A second Greatest Hits package followed in 2004, and after that, he released Honkytonk University.
