World news or international news or even foreign coverage is the news media-jargon for news from abroad, about a foreign country or a global subject. For journalism, it is a branch that deals with news either sent by foreign correspondents or news agencies, or — more recently — information that is gathered or researched through distance communication technologies, such as telephone, satellite TV or the internet.

Although in most of the Anglophone world this field is not usually regarded as a specific specialization for journalists, it is so in nearly all the world. Particularly in the United States, there is a blurred distinction between world news and "national" news when they include directly the national government or national institutions, such as wars in which the US are involved or summits of multilateral organizations in which the US are a member.

Actually, at the birth of modern journalism, most news were actually foreign, as registered by the courants of the 17th century in West and Central Europe, such as the Daily Courant (England), the Nieuwe Tijudinger (Antwerp), the Relation (Strasbourg), the Avisa Relation oder Zeitung (Wolfenbüttel) and the Courante Uyt Italien, Duytsland & C. (Amsterdam). Since these papers were aimed at bankers and merchants, they brought mostly news from other markets, which usually meant other nations. In any case, it is worthy to remark that nation-states were still incipient in 17th-century Europe.

Marco Antonio Barrera Tapia (born June 17, 1974 in Mexico City) is a Mexican professional boxer. He has won numerous world titles in three different weight classes; he is a former three-time WBO Super Bantamweight, WBC, Lineal, & The Ring Featherweight and WBC & IBF Super Featherweight Champion. Barrera ranks # 43 on ESPN's 50 Greatest Boxers Of All Time.

As an amateur, Barrera had a record of 104-4 and was a five-time Mexican national champion. His Winning streak was 56-0 before losing his first amateur contest.

Barrera made his professional debut at 15 when he defeated Leonilo Embuestro Jr. of Philippines by a knockout in round two on November 22, 1989. The victory marked the beginning of a 43 fight win streak.

In 1990, Barrera had seven fights, including his first rise in quality opposition, when he defeated veteran Iván Salazar, by a decision in eight rounds. In 1991, he had seven more fights, defeating boxers Abel Hinojosa, Javier Díaz and others.

Barrera began 1992 by winning his first professional title, defeating Justino Suárez by a decision in twelve rounds to win the Mexican Super Flyweight Championship. He retained the title three times before the end of the year which helped improved his ranking in the Super Flyweight division. He defeated Abner Barajas by a decision in ten rounds, and Angel Rosario by a knockout in six rounds.

Shannon "The Cannon" Briggs (born December 4, 1971) is an American heavyweight boxer, kickboxer and actor. He is the former Lineal and WBO heavyweight champion. He is the last American to hold a major heavyweight title.

Born in Brooklyn, New York and raised in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn, Briggs was homeless for a period in his childhood. At age 17, Briggs began training at Jimmy O'Pharrow's Starrett City Boxing Club in Brooklyn, NY.

Briggs became New York City Golden Gloves champion, New York State Champion, National P.A.L. Champion and finished second place as a Heavyweight at the Panamerican Games in 1991, losing the final to Félix Savón. In 1992 he became the United States Amateur Champion.

Briggs began his career in 1992 and was undefeated in his first 25 fights. He suffered his first loss when he was knocked out in three rounds by undefeated Darroll Wilson in Atlantic City, New Jersey, in 1996. The fight was broadcast on HBO and was a showcase of young heavyweight fighters.

Following this loss, Briggs beat George Foreman for the Lineal heavyweight title; he then lost to Lennox Lewis for the WBC heavyweight title. In their 1998 fight, Briggs had Lewis in trouble early but lost by TKO in the fifth round.

Sultan-Ahmed Magomedsalihovich Ibragimov(Russian: Султан-Ахмед Магомедсалихович Ибрагимов ; born 8 March 1975, in Tlyarata, Dagestan ASSR, Russian SFSR, Soviet Union), is a retired professional boxer and a former WBO heavyweight champion. He is of Avar Dagestani Muslim descent. He fought to become a unified world champion in February 2008, but lost to Wladimir Klitschko.

Ibragimov turned professional and rose through the heavyweigh ranks by knocking out journeymen Al Cole, Zuri Lawrence, Friday Ahunanya and Lance Whitaker. On 28 July 2007, Sultan's record became 19-0-1 when he fought to a draw with Ray Austin in a grueling 12 round IBF heavyweight title eliminator.

Despite the draw against Ray Austin, Ibragimov received a title shot from another sanctioning organization, the WBO. He was scheduled to challenge Shannon Briggs for the WBO heavyweight title on 10 March 2007, but because Briggs became ill with pneumonia, Ibragimov instead faced Javier Mora at Madison Square Garden in New York on that date. Ibragimov knocked out Mora 46 seconds into the first round. This win broke the record for the quickest knockout in a main event bout in Madison Square Garden, which was previously held by Lee Savold who defeated Buddy Walker in 1948.
