Jamaal Dane Magloire (born May 21, 1978) is a Canadian retired professional basketball player. He played 12 seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for the Charlotte/New Orleans Hornets, Milwaukee Bucks, Portland Trail Blazers, New Jersey Nets, Dallas Mavericks, Miami Heat, and Toronto Raptors. The 6 ft 11 in (2.11 m), 265 lb (120 kg; 18.9 st) center was selected out of the University of Kentucky by the Charlotte Hornets, with the 19th overall pick in the 2000 NBA Draft, after withdrawing his name from the previous draft. He was voted into the NBA All-Star Game in 2004, becoming only the second Canadian All-Star in NBA history.
Currently, Magloire is employed by the Toronto Raptors in a position that combines assistant coach, basketball consultant, and team ambassador.
Magloire was born in Toronto, Ontario to Trinidadian immigrant parents, Garth, a welder, and Marion, an insurance worker. He was raised in the city's Scarborough district. He attended high school at Eastern Commerce Collegiate Institute in Toronto, where he led the school's AAA basketball team to back-to-back Ontario provincial championships in 1995 and 1996.
Caribbean Carnival is the term used for a number of events that take place in many of the Caribbean islands annually.
The Caribbean's carnivals all have several common themes, many originating from Trinidad and Tobago Carnival, based on folklore, culture, religion, and tradition (thus relating to the European use of the word, not amusement rides, as the word "carnival" is often used to mean in American English). Carnival tradition is based on a number of disciplines including: "Playing Mas"/masquerade; calypso music and crowning a Calypso King or Monarch; Panorama (steel band competition); J'ouvert morning; and a number of other traditions.
Approximate dates are given for the concluding festivities. Carnival season may last for over a month prior to the concluding festivities, and the exact dates vary from year to year.
The National Basketball Association (NBA) All-Star Game is an annual exhibition basketball game played between the Eastern-Conference and the Western-Conference All-Stars. It is the main event of the NBA All-Star Weekend. Twelve players—five starters and seven reserves—from each conference are chosen from a pool of 120 players—60 players from each conference with 24 guards and 24 big men (forwards and centers)—listed on the ballots by a panel of sport writers and broadcasters. The starters are chosen by fans, who may vote using a variety of online platforms. The reserves are chosen by voting among the head coaches of each team's particular conference. Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own players, and can select two guards, three big men, and two players regardless of positions. If a player is unable to participate due to injury, the NBA commissioner will select a replacement. The 1999 All-Star Game was canceled due to the league's lockout.
The following is a list of NBA All-Stars, players who have been selected for the NBA All-Star Game at least once in their career. Note that the number indicates the player's number of selections—not the number of games played. For instance, Michael Jordan was named to the All-Star Game roster 14 times, but missed the 1986 game due to injury. As of the 2016 All-Star Game, 479 players have been selected to an All-Star Game roster at least once. However, only 321 of them have earned multiple selections to the game.
