1981 (MCMLXXXI) was a common year starting on Thursday (link displays the 1981 Gregorian calendar). It is the 1981st year of the Common Era, or A.D.; the 981st year of the 2nd millennium; the 81st year of the 20th century; and the 2nd year of the 1980s decade.
Glenn Herbert Gould (September 25, 1932 – October 4, 1982) was a Canadian pianist who became one of the best-known and most celebrated classical pianists of the 20th century. He was particularly renowned as an interpreter of the keyboard music of Johann Sebastian Bach. His playing was distinguished by remarkable technical proficiency and capacity to articulate the polyphonic texture of Bach’s music.
Gould rejected most of the standard Romantic piano literature and, after his adolescence, avoided Liszt, Schumann, and Chopin. Although his recordings were dominated by Bach, Gould's oeuvre was diverse, including works by Beethoven, Mozart, Haydn, Brahms, pre-Baroque composers such as Jan Sweelinck, and such 20th-century composers as Paul Hindemith and Arnold Schoenberg. Gould was well known for various eccentricities, from his unorthodox musical interpretations and mannerisms at the keyboard to aspects of his lifestyle and personal behavior. He stopped giving concerts at the age of 31 to concentrate on studio recording and other projects.
McKinley Morganfield (April 4, 1913 – April 30, 1983), known as Muddy Waters, was an American blues musician, generally considered the "father of modern Chicago blues". He was a major inspiration for the British blues explosion in the 1960s, and was ranked No. 17 in Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.
Although in his later years Muddy usually said that he was born in Rolling Fork, Mississippi, in 1915, he was actually born at Jug's Corner in neighboring Issaquena County, Mississippi, in 1913. Recent research has uncovered documentation showing that in the 1930s and 1940s he reported his birth year as 1913 on both his marriage license and musicians' union card. A 1955 interview in the Chicago Defender is the earliest claim of 1915 as his year of birth, which he continued to use in interviews from that point onward. The 1920 census lists him as five years old as of March 6, 1920, suggesting that his birth year may have been 1914. The Social Security Death Index, relying on the Social Security card application submitted after his move to Chicago in the mid 1940s, lists him as being born April 4, 1915. Muddy's gravestone lists his birth year as 1915.
John Dawson "Johnny" Winter III (born February 23, 1944) is an American blues guitarist, singer, and producer. Best known for his late 1960s and 1970s high-energy blues-rock albums and live performances, Winter also produced three Grammy Award-winning albums for blues legend Muddy Waters. Since his time with Waters, Johnny Winter has recorded several Grammy-nominated blues albums and continues to tour extensively. In 1988, he was inducted into the Blues Foundation Hall of Fame and in 2003, he was ranked 74th in Rolling Stone magazine's list of the "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time" He was born with albinism.
Johnny Winter, along with his brother Edgar Winter, were nurtured at an early age by their parents in musical pursuits. Both he and his brother, who were born with albinism, began performing at an early age. When he was ten years old, Winter appeared on a local children's show, playing ukelele and singing Everly Brothers songs with his brother.
His recording career began at the age of fifteen, when his band Johnny and the Jammers released "School Day Blues" on a Houston record label. During this same period, he was able to see performances by classic blues artists such as Muddy Waters, B.B. King, and Bobby Bland. In the early days Winter would sometimes sit in with Roy Head and the Traits when they performed in the Beaumont, Texas area, and in 1967, Winter recorded a single with the Traits: "Tramp" backed with "Parchman Farm" (Universal Records 30496). In 1968, he released his first album The Progressive Blues Experiment, on Austin's Sonobeat Records.
I could be desperate
I think I'm brave
Could stay and watch you
(repeat)
You gave me nothing
An early grave
I'm vegetating I want more, more, more
I want everything in 1981
Anywhere
Any place will do
I'm leaving England
We're near the ending
You gave me nothing
No more pretending
I'm looking forward
To our parting in 1981
1981
We're near the ending
I'm just pretending
It's all been said before
I want more, more, more in 1981

Here's what I think about you and how your friends
How your friends adore your sudden glory
Heres what I know about you and all your trends
And all the times we made believe a story
Heres what I think about making face
Without a grain of doubt its all I think about, its all in my mind
Its best I make a sound before I hit the ground
Run away from it all
Its what I think about, its what I know about, its what I care about
Pain wont go away even when the drugs say, I wont regret
Time heals so Im told, I could never be sold, I dont forget
And if I should start to wonder, pull me out from the rock Im under
Heres what I think about vacant space
Without a grain of doubt its all I think about, its all in my mind
I better hit the town before the rain comes down
Run away from it all
Far away from it all
Pain wont go away even when the drugs say, I wont regret
Time heals so Im told, I could never be sold, I dont forget
Hey Dave, youre so brave, I can never be saved, take it from me
He said, she said, even if theyre not dead, bring them to me
Run away from it all, from it all
Pain wont go away even if the drugs stay, I dont regret
Time heals so Im told, I could never be sold, I wont forget.
I wont forget.
Siamo cambiati in fretta
dietro a sogni spenti che
hanno trasformato
un presente che non c'è
E grandi alla sera
colazione alle tre
abitudine importante
per sopravvivere
E allora a questo crescere
mi sento dire che
quei giorni son finiti
ma non chiedo mai perché
Ora sono così perso
e vulnerabile
e troppo indifeso
ma pronto a correre
(RIT.)
Ho voglia di gridare
ma senza piangere
soffocare ogni respiro
questa città lo fa per me
cerco solo di affrontare
questo silenzio dentro me...
C'è troppa confusione
e troppi amici che
sono degli sconosciuti
fino al prossimo week end
Non importa cosa ho scelto
c'è chi pensa già per me
e decide cosa è giusto
e cosa è inutile
(RIT.)
Lasciami gridare
ma senza piangere
contare ogni respiro
questa città lo fa per me
cerco solo di affrontare
questo silenzio dentro me...
E continuo ad ignorare
le preoccupazioni che
spogliano i miei giorni
dal sorriso fragile
Comune sentimento
scoprire in fondo che
nascondo ogni paura
per sempre dentro me
(RIT.)
Ascoltami gridare
ma senza piangere
non voglio più fuggire
questa città lo fa per me
Cerco solo di affrontare
questo silenzio dentro me
(Cerco solo di affrontare
questo silenzio)
Ascoltami gridare
ma senza piangere
non voglio più fuggire
questa città lo fa per me
(Cerco solo di affrontare)
Cerco solo di affrontare
questo silenzio senza te
stuck in the middle of 1981
seek deviation I am hiding from the sun
run from the poison, factories and graves
spray paint heroes and middle class white slaves
crypt, crashing, bruised and bashing
crawling creep never go away
shaved and sliding, scared and broken
joking cause I am angry in all my days
zombie teen insurgence, leather jacket smile
black boots of combat, I am super juvenile
no nazi guises, no tracks up my sleeve
no corporate lies, no intention to deceive
crypt, crashing, bruised and bashing
crawling creep never go away
shaved and sliding, scared and broken
joking cause I am angry in all my days
scars of the stories, smoking burning years
don't break the circle, bleeding restless ears
tanquaray and tonic, secret rebel truce
a worldwide playground to steal forbidden fruit
crypt, crashing, bruised and bashing
crawling creep never go away
shaved and sliding, scared and broken
joking cause I am angry in all my days
crypt, crashing, bruised and bashing
crawling creep never go away
shaved and sliding, scared and broken
I found another letter
This one was not much better
From a girl so long agaon
A girl I used to know in Reno
Yea things they kinda happened
But I flunked her test
Or something
Punk rock cured my misery
She said it ruined her and me
Back in the day
We played in 1981
What's done is done
I thought
In 1981 I should explain the chorus
There was no future for us
She made life feel ok
We hung out every day
Then things got kinda creepy
She started getting weepy
Our things grew really odd
As soon as she found God
She moved to Sacramento
Gave back all my mementos
Stood there and watched her go
Stayed with my band in Skeeno
We tried to keep things friendly
So hard when things have ended
Punk rock blamed for our decline
