Today
I've been counting the many blessings
In the family my dad raised
All the love we shared through the years
Has come back to me in many ways
And today
My mind flashbacked to my childhood days
I recall my first day of school
And how much it hurt my dad to see me start off in
patched up blue jeans
But dad, today thats the style
My boy won't go anywhere without his patched up jeans
Their old and faded
And they look like they've never been cleaned
And I remember Sunday school
And how I'd get mad when you'd make me go
But now
I can see why that was so important to you
Cause we prayed together
And we stayed together
Now my dad was a man that knew his own mind
And I remember when he'd call us all together
And he'd say, "family it's lovin time"
His world was built around mom and the four kids they
raised
And I can still see the smile that always came on
momma's face
Each time dad would say the table grace
The house was filled with lots of noise
But when we got to loud dad would always say "oh those
devilish boys"
There was three of us the fourth was a girl
Well you know dad had a choice
A favorite that is
But he'd say I love one just as much as I love the
other
Aww would you look at her
She looks just like her mother
I've heard alot of other people talk about my dad
And talk about the things he'd done when he was young
Cause I may be a little bit prejudiced
But he was the best in the county when it came to a
contest in games
Cause he could out run, out box, out shoot any of the
professionals that came to town
Now my dad was a good man
And his family came first
And he did his best for us
And I know sometimes
He worked til it hurt
The depression wasn't an easy time
A dollar a day was the pay back then
And I remember my dad leaving the house before day
break
And walking fourteen miles to get to work without being
late
Ahh I guess everyone remembers the good times and the
Good times were happy and bad times were sad
And when I'd do something wrong he'd straighten me out
With a hand or a belt out behind the house
But now momma didn't raise her voice or fuss when we'd
get out of hand
She'd just say now thats enough
And if we didn't obey
She'd tell dad what was wrong
And without a question dad would lay it on
Why we picked cotton, chopped cotton, stacked hay,
pulled corn
Well that's the way we made our livin back then on the
farm
But things are different now
Cause it's like a new world we're livin in
Everythings a mad rush
And not enough time for friends
And when I think of my dad
It makes me proud you see
Cause he gave so much of himself
To make life easier for me
Now not everyone's as lucky as I am
To have a father who wanted the best for me out of life
And now when I hear a church bell chime
It's almost like my dad saying family its lovin time
So why don't you go to your dad right now
And tell him you love him
And I'll bet you a dollar against a dog biscuit
That it'll mean more to him then any gift that money
could buy
Cause you know you can't ever repay him
For all the things he's done for you
And the best way I know
To let him know
What's he doin' in my world what's he doin' holdin' my world
If he's not more than just a friend why were you kissin' him
And what's he doin' in my world
What's he doin' in my world did you tell him that you're my girl
If your love is really true tell him my world's made for two
What's he doin' in my world
Oh don't let me keep on wonderin' just what you're gonna do
Wonderin' if the one I love loves somebody new
What's he doin' in my world we don't need him here in our world
So if it's true he's just a friend explain those kisses you gave him
I was on the outskirts of a little southern town
Trying to reach my destination before the sun went down
The old CB was blarin' away on Channel 1-9
When there came a little boy's voice on the radio line
And he said, "Breaker 1-9, is anyone there?
Come on back truckers and talk to Teddy Bear"
I keyed the mike and I said, "You got it, Teddy Bear"
And the little boy's voice came back on the air
"Appreciate the breaker who we got on that end"
I told him my handle and then he began
"Though I'm not supposed to bother you fellows out there
Mom says you're busy and for me to stay off the air"
But you see, I get lonely and it helps to talk
'Cause that's about all I can do, I'm crippled and I can't walk
I came back and told him to fire up that mike
And I'd talk to him as long as he'd liked
"This was my dad's radio", the little boy said
But I guess it's mine and mom's now 'cause my daddy's dead
Dad had a wreck about a month ago
He was tryin' to get home in a blinding snow
Mom has to work now to make ends meet
And I'm not much help with my two crippled feet
She says not to worry that we'll make it alright
But I hear her cryin' sometimes late at night
You know there's one thing I want more than anything else to see
Oh, I know you guys are too busy to bother with me
But you see, my dad used to take me for rides when he was home
But I guess that's all over now since my daddy's gone
Not one breaker came on the old CB
As that little crippled boy talked with me
I tried hard to swallow a lump just wouldn't stay down
As I thought about my boy back in Greenville town
Dad was gonna take mom and me with him later on this year
Why I remember him sayin' someday
This old truck will be yours, Teddy Bear
But I know now I'll never get a ride on 18-wheeler again
But this old base'll keep me in touch with all my trucker friends
Teddy Bear's gonna back on out now and leave you alone
'Cause it's about time for mom to come home
But you give me shout when you're passin' through
And I'll surely be happy to come back to you
Well, I came back and I said before you go 10-10
What's your home 20, little CB friend
He gave me his address and I didn't once hesitate
'Cause this hot load of freight would just have to wait
I turned that truck around on a dime
And headed straight for Jackson Street 229
And as I rounded the corner, oh, I got one the heck of a shock
18-wheeler were lined up for three city blocks
I guess every driver for miles around had caught Teddy Bear's call
And that little crippled boy was havin' a ball
For as fast as one driver would carry him in
Another would carry him to his truck and take off again
Well, you better believe I took my turn rifin' Teddy Bear
And then carried him back in and put him down in his chair
And buddy, if I never live to see happiness again
I want you to know I saw it that day in the face of that little man
We took up a collection for him before his mama got home
And each driver said goodbye and then they were all gone
He shook my hand with a mile long grin
And said, "So long trucker, I'll catch you again"
Ah, I hit that interstate with tears in my eyes
I turned on the radio and I got another surprise
Breaker 1-9 came the voice on the air
Just one word of thanks from mama, Teddy Bear
We wish each and everyone a special prayer for you
'Cause you just made my little boy's dream come true
I'll sign off now before I start to cry
I said hello to the man that tried to win your hand a long time ago
I tried to smile as he talked of the days when he was your beau
But I could see he was a shamin' me when he talked of his wealth and fame
Ruby Ann took the hand of this poor poor man ain't true love a funny thing
Big man you got money in your hand so what
You're at a table for two but still there's only you big shot
Well your money can't buy if your power can't hold you can't romance your fame
Ruby Ann took the hand of this poor poor man ain't true love a funny thing
[ guitar ]
Big man you got money...
You've painted up your lips and rolled and curled your tinted hair.
Ruby are you contemplating going out somewhere?
The shadow on the wall tells me the sun is going down.
Oh Ruby, don't take your love to town.
It wasn't me that started that ol' crazy Asian war.
But I was proud to go and do my patriotic chore.
And yes, it's true that I'm not the man I used to be.
Oh Ruby, I still need some company.
It's hard to love a man whose legs are bent and paralyzed
And the wants and the needs of a woman your age
Ruby I realize.
But it won't be long, I've heard them say, until I'm not around
Oh Ruby, don't take your love to town.
She's leaving now, 'cause I just heard the slamming of the door
The way I know I've heard it slam one hundred times before.
And if I could move I'd get my gun and put her in the ground.
Oh Ruby, don't take your love to town.
Tonight I'm back at our old table in our favorite hide-a-way
Where we used to laugh and dance and hear those happy fiddles play
But the love she once had for me couldn't stand the test of time
Now the fiddles don't sound happy seem to know that she's not mine
I hear those sad violins playing softly just for me
And their crying strings just fit the mood I'm in
I don't hear the happy fiddles that used to play for her and me
Now all I hear is sad violins
[ steel - fiddle ]
The soft warm wine once sweet and gentle now has such a bitter taste
And I never thought this corner could be such a lonely place
The spotlight on the band just turned a lonely shade of blue
As they start to play our favorite song in memory of you
I hear those sad violins...
Fate has planned a place for girls like you who torture guys like me
And the time for all bad things to end will surely come to me
The world will turn its back on those who never can be true
And you'll find out that fate has planned a place for girls like you
I've tried so hard to be the way you wanted me to be
To give you things you wanted most but still we disagree
Each time I try to change my life to fit the way you live
I find that you just made new plans for more than I can give
Fate has planned a place...
When I've done everything that you asked me to do
And when I've changed every way that I can
Then if that's not enough to satisfy you then I guess I'm not that much a man
When I've gone the last mile of the way
And when I've said everything left to say
I know only sorrow awaits me when I've gone the last mile of the way
[ fiddle ]
There are some things in life that money can't buy
And there's some things that words cannot say
I guess I always knew I couldn't satisfy you if I went every mile of the way
When I've gone the last mile...
She's my girl she's my world she's my life to me
She's my girl she's my world she's my wife to be
She makes me actin' dress my best keeps me filled with the happiness
I don't know I'm just lucky I guess
What a lucky day it was when I met her what a lucky street to meet with the best
But don't ask me why I come to win her I don't know I'm just lucky I guess
She's my girl she's my world...
[ steel ]
She will give me memories extra special she's so different not like all the rest
Since I met her how I've changed she's gonna let me change her name
I don't know I'm just lucky I guess
(She's the one got lonely I didn't jump the fence)
Mr Angry neighbor yes I know just how you feel
Cause I've been taking your fruit but don't tell me I steal
I haven't been in your yard my tracks ain't on your ground
Your tree hangs over my fence the nights you're not around
I didn't jump the fence the fruit was offered free
I couldn't reach your apples if you just trimmed the tree
Well sure I've held your darling but Mister where's your sence
She's the one got lonely I didn't jump the fence
Now friend you see that little trail that runs between our home
These ain't the shoes that wore it there the nights that you were gone
So don't show me your anger or shout I stole a kiss
When she did all the walking I didn't jump the fence
I'll step aside for you if you don't want me
I'll step aside for you if you don't care
I'm not the one to cling to a broken promise
I'll step aside for someone else somewhere
I'll step aside for you if you don't want me
I'll step aside for you and you alone
And when I'm gone just promise you'll remember
That I was once your darling all your own
[ piano ]
Before you go just answer this last question
As you gaze into my tear dimmed eyes
It can't be true you never cared about me
And all those words I treasured were just lies
I love you because you understand dear every single thing I try to do
You're always there to lend a halping hand dear
I love you most of all because you're you
No matter what the world may say about me
I know your love will always see me through
I love you for the way you never doubt me but most of all I love you cause you're you
[ guitar - steel ]
I love you because my heart is lighter every time I'm walking by your side
I love you because the future's brighter the door to happiness you've opened wide
No matter what may be the style or seasons I know your heart will always be true
I love you for a hundred thousand reasons
Dear John, oh, how I hate to write
Dear John, I must let you know tonight
That my love for you has died away like grass upon the lawn
And tonight I wed another dear John
I was overseas in battle when the postman came to me
And he handed me a letter I was just as happy as I could be
For the fighting was all over and the battle have been won
Then I opened up the letter and that started, dear John
Dear John, oh, how I hate to write
Dear John, I must let you know tonight
That my love for you has died away like grass upon the lawn
And tonight I wed another dear John
Will you please send back my picture, my husband wants it now
And when I tell you who I'm wedding I know you won't care, dear anyhow
Now the ceremony has just started and tonight I'll wed your brother Don
Sister did the jig and brother beat the drum
And baby rocked her dolly baby rocked her dolly
As I sit here in this old folks home my hair is white as snow
I remember when I was young again how everything was jolly
When sister did the jig...
Well them kids of mine they've all grown up they write every now and then
As I read the letters it makes memories of all our fun and folly
When sister did the jig...
That wife of mine God rest her soul she's gone on before me
I bet she's told the Lord about the times our house was filled with jolly
When sister did the jig...
That man across the hall is a lonely man he's never had a family
So he asked me to tell him all about my kids when he's feelin' melancholy
When sister did the jig...
You say you're tired of struggling along
Bear with me a little longer
Seems like everything I do turns out wrong
Bear with me a little longer
It hasn't been easy, I know at least up to now
But if you'll understand me half way in what I'm tryin'
And I know will make it somehow
I'll say a prayer for us tonight
I'll pray that your love will grow stronger
And then everything will be alright
Bear with me a little longer
I've heard it said a million times
You could have heaven on Earth
But the long of average since things will be better
We've already been through the worse
I'll say a prayer for us tonight
I'll pray that your love will grow stronger
And then everything will be alright
I hear footsteps, slowly walking
As they gently walk across a lonely floor
And a voice softly saying
Darling, this will be goodbye forever more
There goes my reason for living
There goes the one of my dreams
There goes my only possession
There goes my everything
As my memory turns back the pages
I can see the happy years we had before
Now the love that kept this old heart beating
Has been shattered by the closing of a door
On our little girls third birthday
She got a sandbox, in the backyard to play
Sand was everywhere as she play and she laughed
I busted her, for it killed all the grass
It'll come back, it'll come back
Daddy don't be mad
God and the rain will bring it back
When our little girl, just turned ten
She got a bike to ride with all her friends
She skinned both her knees, as she played and she laughed
I busted her, for it killed all the grass
It'll come back, it'll come back
Daddy don't be mad
God and the rain will bring it back
When our little girl, turned seventeen
We built her a pool, in the backyard that spring
All her friends came and they swam and they splashed
I busted her, for it killed all the grass
It'll come back, it'll come back
Daddy don't be mad
God and the rain will bring it back
My wife and I sit on the porch alone
As I look out across at my beautiful lawn
The house is quiet, there's no children at play
And I say to my wife, "Honey If you'll listen real close
You can still hear her say"
It'll come back
(It'll come back)
It'll come back
(It'll come back)
Daddy don't be mad
God and the rain will bring it back
It'll come back
(It'll come back)
It'll come back
Well, I was sittin' in this bar joint down in Houston,
Texas.
Was drinkin' Colorado kool-Aid and talkin' to some
Mexicans
an' we was...what's that you say? What's Coloradr Kool-
Aid?
Well, it's a can of Coors brewed from a mountain
stream.
It'll set your head on fire an' make your kidney's
scream, oh it sure is fine.
Yeah, we was havin' ourselves one of them real good
times.
But you know every beer joint that you've ever been in,
some big,
mean drunk who ain't got no friend, sure enough he
wants to fight.
Yeah, he's gonna whip everything in sight.
Well, he took him a big swallow of beer,
and he spit it in my Mexican friend's ear.
And, sure enough, that made my buddie real mad.
That's somethin' like he never had.
Well, sir he pulled out a big, long switchblade knife.
Quick as a whistle he began to slice.
An', that big, mean drunk stood back, his face full of
tears,
lookin' down at the floor, an' one of his ears.
Ha, he cut that thing off, even with the sideburns.
You might say the little Mexican fella, he just didn't
give a durn.
But he was gentleman about it, an' bent over and with a
half way grin,
picked it up and handed it back to him.
He said, " Now big man, you get the urge to spit a
little beer,
just open up your hand there, and spit it in your own
ear.
Won't be no trouble that way."
That's what I heard him say.
And I said, "Barmaid, sat us a round of that Colorado
Kool-Aid.
An' while you're up their, bring this big fella, here,
a box of band aids.
Now, let me tell you, if you're ever ridin' down south
of Texas.
Decide to stop an' drink some Colorado Kool-Aid, an'
maybe talk to some Mexicans,
an' you get the urge to get a little tough better make
damn
sure you got your knife proof ear-muff.
Hey, ain't that right big man?
I said ain't that right big man?
Ah, hell he can't hear,
not on this side anyway, he ain't got no ear.
Hey, barmaid, bring us all a big,
tall glass of that Colorado Kool-Aid.
How about it?
Take this hammer take it to the captain take this hammer take it to the captain
Take this hammer take it to the captain tell him I'm gone tell him I'm gone
If he asks you was I runnin' if he asks you was I runnin'

Tell the captain I was headed for the river tell the captain I was headed for the river
Tell the captain I was headed for the river tell him I swim tell him I swim
Take this hammer take it to the captain take this hammer take it to the captain

Twenty-five miles in Mississippi tell him I'm gone gone gone tell him I'm gone
Take this hammer take it to the captain take this hammer take it to the captain
I've walked behind a lazy mule and backed it down the road
And cursed the gumbo mud that grew the corn
I swung a double bitted axe till sundown
And wondered through my sweat why I was born
I've laughed in daddy's face when he was praying
I've urned my back upon my mother's crys
I've looked into my mind when we were starving
And asked myself the question who am I
I've searched the eyes of strangers in the alley
And seen the learching looks that they return
I've read the books the scholars recommended
And trembled at the likes of what I learned
I've slept out in the night when it was raining
I've shivered at the lightning in the sky
I've looked into my mind while I was freezing
And asked myself the question who am I
I've seen the spinning world from in the gutter
And felt the kin to men who leave their wives
I've searched and finally found the perfect woman
And learned too late she never could be mine
I've walked with Lord's head behind my off-spring
Ashamed of the man in my son's eyes
Oh what a rocky track I left to follow
You tell me how you need me when you're lonely
The thought of losing me tears you apart
When you need love you think of just me only
But I'm sure it's more from habit than desire
You tell me how you lie awake and reminisce
Of when my kiss almost stops your heart
But your eyes have lost their glow your kiss has lost its fire
And I know it's more from habit than desire
[ steel ]
You say when I'm away you live in emptiness
Like nothing's left a whole world's let you down
I wish I'd had the power to bring you happiness
But you've just grown used to havin' me around
It's just habit when you tell me that you love me
I've lost the key that opens up your heart
And your eyes have lost their glow your kiss has lost its fire
(Bringing Mary home)
I was driving down a lonely road on a dark and stormy night
When a little girl by the road side showed up in my head lights
I stopped and she got in the back and in a shaky tone
She said my name is Mary please won't you take me home
She must have been so frightened all alone there in the night
There was something strange about her cause her face was deathly white
She sat so pale and quiet there in the back seat all alone
I never will forget that night I took Mary home
I pulled into the driveway where she told me to go
Got out to help her from the car and opened up the door
But I just could not believe my eyes the back seat was bare
I looked all around the car but Mary wasn't there
A small light shown from the porch a woman opened up the door
I asked about the little girl that I was looking for
Then the lady gently smiled and brushed a tear away
She said it sure was nice of you to go out of your way
But thirteen years ago today in a wreck just down the road
Our darling Mary lost her life and we srill miss her so
So thank you for your trouble and the kindness you have shown
You're the thirteenth one who's been here bringing Mary home
You're the thirteenth one who's been here bringing Mary home
Up above me are the skies like the twinkle in your eyes
These things are the color of the blues
In the mail your letter came the ink and paper looked the same
Blue must be the color of the blues
Bluebird's singing in the trees seems to sympathize with me
But he ain't singing like he used to do
The pearly waters in the sea feel as cold as you left me
Yes blue must be the color of the blues
There's a rainbow overhead with more blue than gold and red
Blue must be the color angels choose
A blue dress you proudly wore when you left to return no more
Blue must be the color of the blues
Blue days come and blue days go how I feel nobody knows
Life is mighty empty without you
There's a blue note in my song that I sing since you are gone
Here I am late again for the last time
And like I promised I just told her goodbye
Please believe me for this time it's really over
And darling you know I wouldn't lie
Didn't I come and tell about her
How temptation lured she and I
But now I know it was only fascination
And darling you know I wouldn't lie
I had to led her down easy as slow as I could
After all she's got feelings too
But it took a little longer than I've thought it would
But this time she knows we're really through
She wanted to hold me forever
And this lipstick shows her final try
And these tears on my shoulders are proved that she failed
With raindrops on my windshield and teardrops on my stirring wheels
This lonely truck's the only thing I own
In my heart I'm pining while her old engine's whining
With 18 wheels a humming home sweet home
I had a gal in Texas she walked away and left us
This old truck's all I'm depending on
Sometimes I overwork her but I never would desert her
With 18 wheels a humming home sweet home
We've got a lot in common we keep each other goin'
Me and this old truck a hangin' on
We just keep right on rollin' that lonesome stack a blowin'
With 18 wheels a humming home sweet home
[ steel ]
It ain't the latest model and it can't take much trottle
Them shiny rigs ain't been where this one's gone
And we ain't in a hurry we lope along in worry
With 18 wheels a humming home sweet home
With raindrops on my windshield...
With 18 wheels a humming home sweet home
Cuz I think it's kind of special too
But first, Now I gotta few things I've been wanting to say to you guys for a long time
And I think right now is a good time to do it
Did you know that me and just about everyone in country music who travel a lot
Have nothing but the highest respect for you the truck driver
Cuz its a fact that some of the best drivers are truck drivers
And the most safety mindedl, the most courteous and the first to stop and help when there's trouble
And little things like blinking signals lights to help someone pass
So you just gotta be good people
Like some I've had the pleasure of meeting
Down to earth, hard-working family men
And a lot of you like our country music and that makes you okay in my book
Sounds like Im blowing smoke, don't it
But I'm not
Cuz it boils down to this,
If everyone would drive liek you guys do
There would be a lot less accidents and deaths on the highway
So truck driver, buddy, you are appreciated more then you'll ever know
And we salute you, now for the prayer
Now this truck drivers prayer was sent to me, by a truck driver from Oklahoma City
He found it in a truck stop, Mary's Cafe in Cahokia, Il
Now this prayer means a lot to him
And I think it will you too, so if you will give a listen
And see if it isn't your prayer too
Dear God above bless this truck I drive
and help me keep someone alive
Be my mortal sight this day
on the street where little children play
Bless my helper fast asleep when the night is long
and keep my cargo safe and sound
through the hours big and round
make my judgment sound as steel
and be my hands upon the wheel
Bless the traveler going past
and teach them not to go so fast
Give me strength for every trip
so I may care for what they ship
And make me mindful every mile
that life is just a little while....Amen
Why will a man go out and cheat
What makes temptation so sweet
And it's a shame
The neon lights will make a man stay all night
With a girl in a bar down the street
I never meant to be that man
But last night I held another's hand
Though her kisses tasted sweet
That's not what made me cheat
So I'll try and explain if I can
Where, where, where could I go?
Oh, when I needed love, you weren't there
And her two open arms offered love, sweet and warm
Where could I go but to her?
Please forgive my one mistake
And I'd swear it's the last I'll ever make
Let those arms I need the most take me back, hold me close
For loving you is a habit I can't break
Where, where, where could I go?
Oh, when you feel the urge to go wrong
The next time I'm tempted when my glass is emptied
Time keeps slippin away
Minute by minute each day
Some things that I wanted to do
I just didn't get around to
And I've wasted the days of me and you
Over and over and over
I wished I'd taken more time
Doing things with you
I'll never do again
Time keeps slippin away
Minute by minute each day
Some things that I wanted to do
I just didn't get around to
And I've wasted the days of me and you
Over and over and over
I wished I'd taken more time
Doing things with you
I'll never do again
Time keeps slippin away
Minute by minute each day
Some things that I wanted to do
I just didn't get around to
And I've wasted the days of me and you
Slippin away time keeps slippin away
Minute by minute each day
A tiny turned up nose, two cheeks just like a rose
So sweet from head to toe, that little girl of mine
I had gone to visit the grave of a friend of mine
And as I walked through the graveyard
I noticed this man kneeling down by a grave of a child
And as I started to walk by
I noticed that he had a big red rose in his hand
And tears were streaming down his cheeks
I walk over, laid a hand on his shoulder
And started to talk to him
And in the course of the conversation
And in his broken English
This is the story as he told it to me
He said, "Mister, I walk-a-down the street-a today
And-a I pass-a by a big-a flower shop
I walk-a into the shop and I ask-a the man"
I said, "Boss, how much for one-a red rose?"
And-a he look-a at me with one big frown
And he said, "One-a dollar, please"
But a-by and-a by a swell dressed blond young-a lady walk-a in
And she said-a, "How much for-a one red rose?"
And-a he look-a at her with big-a smile
And he said-a, "Ten cent"
And I said-a, "Boss, how come-a you charge-a me
A dollar for the rose and you charge-a the lady only ten-a cents"
And he said-a, "Look, tell me why you want-a the rose
And maybe I give it to you for nothing"
And I said, "Boss, I'm hard-a working man
I work-a for the railroad
And I got-a little girl and her name is Rosa
Rosa is just about this-a high, Boss
Everyday when I come-a home from work
Little Rosa come-a running to meet her papa"
She throws her little arms around my neck
And say, "Papa" and I say, "Rosa"
But one-a day, Boss I come home from work
And I don't-a see Rosa
I look down by the railroad tracks and I see-a one big-a crowd
I go down and push-a the crowd this way
And I push-a the crowd that way
And there at my feet lay my little Rosa
And that's why I want-a the Rose-a Boss
I want to put them on my little Rosa grave
The man he don't-a say nothing
But he pick the biggest and reddest rose and he give-a to me
And I said, "Thank-a you, Boss, I thank you very much"
And though she's gone, you see she's the world to me
Dream house for sale
Maybe, it's left for you
If you're among the lucky ones
And that found a love that's true
I was looking through the morning paper
Like a lot of us do every day
When I saw an ad that caught my eye
This is what it had to say
One dream house for sale
It's a bargain from nothing down
And there's no closing cost for the dreams
I lost when the girl I loved left town
There's five rooms and bath on an acre of land
And the nursery painted pink and blue
A baby bed and a little white high chair
And it's all almost brand new
There's a set out old dog in a picket fence
Around the yard that's full of weeds
Why, just one look and it's easy to see
A little love is all that it needs
Dream house for sale
If you found a love that's true
The only thing wrong with this house of mine
Is the black cloud that hangs above
I guess it's there to keep out the sunshine
Since mine's a house without love
That's just about all there is to tell
About a boy and his love that failed
Four words tell the rest of my story
Dream house for sale
Dream house for sale
Maybe it's meant for you
If you're among the lucky ones
I recall the night that you came into this world.
I couldn't believe the doctor when he said: "It's a
little girl."
I said: "Now Doc, you must be wrong. You see I want a
boy."
Then he laid you in my arms and my heart sang with joy.
(Daddy's Girl, Daddy's Girl,
(I'm the center of Daddy's world.
(I know I'm Daddy's number one,
(For he loves me like I was his son.
(Daddy's Girl.)
I recall the day I took you to a baseball game.
You brought along your baby doll and half its' baby
things.
We sat there a-playin' house, while the Dodgers played
the Braves.
And ev'ryone in the bleachers looked at us as if to
say.
(Daddy's Girl, Daddy's Girl,
(I'm the center of Daddy's world.
(I know I'm Daddy's number one,
(For he loves me like I was his son.
(Daddy's Girl.)
I recall the day I took you on a fishin' trip,
You said: "Daddy won't that hook hurt the fishes' lip?"
And you said if they don't get air, those things in the
can will die.
So we turned the worms all loose and chased some
butterflies.
(Daddy's Girl, Daddy's Girl,
(I'm the center of Daddy's world.
(I know I'm Daddy's number one,
(For he loves me like I was his son. (Daddy's Girl)
I recall the day that your young man come to call.
Seems like only yesterday, you swam and played
football.
But I know the time has come, that I must set you free.
But no matter where you are, you know what you are to
(Daddy's Girl, Daddy's Girl,
(I'm the center of Daddy's world.
(I know I'm Daddy's number one,
(For he loves me like I was his son.
(Daddy's Girl.)
To fade...
(Daddy's Girl, Daddy's Girl,
(I'm the center of Daddy's world.
(I know I'm Daddy's number one,
(For he loves me like I was his son.
The place I would like to see I know
But not the place where you told me to go
So anything that moves will be okay
I'll take anything leaving town today
You may think that I'm joking when I'm talking
But to get away from you I may try walking
I want something that's moving right away
I'll take anything leaving town today
I got a sudden urge to get away
I'd like to cut my time away from town
But I know there ain't no airport in this bitty town
Don't think I'm leaving just for what I think of you
But I'd even crawl not knowing where I'm crawling to
Don't think it has it hasn't leave it lay
With, raindrops on my windshield,
teardrops on my steering wheel,
this lonely truck's the only thing I own.
In my heart i'm pining,
while her old engine's whining with eighteen wheels
a-humming " Home Sweet Home."
I had a gal in Texas,
she walked away and left us,
this old truck's all I'm depending on.
Sometimes I overwork her,
but I never would desert her with eighteen wheels
a-humming " Home Sweet Home."
We've got alot in common,
we keep each other going,
me and this old truck are hanging on.
We just keep right on rolling,
that lonesome stack a-blowing,
with eighteen wheels
a- humming, "Home Sweet Home."
It ain't the latest model and it can't take much
throttle,
them shiny rigs ain't been where this one's gone.
And we ain't in a hurry,
we loaf along and worry with eighteen wheels
a-humming " Home Sweet Home."
There's raindrops on my windshield and teardrops on my
steering wheel,
this lonely truck's the only thing I own.
And in my heart I'm pining,
while her old engine's whining with eighteen wheels
there I'm sitting now
around me everything
works cold and empty
there is no more faith
who says, you would have
a good character lies
your little black heart strikes
on the wrong side
signed, sealed and delivered
it's my wounded heart
I knew it from the start
signed, sealed and delivered
I can't wait any longer
can't get any wronger
your view changed
and at the end i failed
don't expect me to die
with the pace of a snail
I could not do it
what has happened here
fought and crawling upward
I mark pain property
signed, sealed and delivered
it's my wounded heart
I knew it from the start
signed, sealed and delivered
I can't wait any longer
can't get any wronger
everything I felt you
I forget the blue
your words are full lies
there's no more desire - no
here I'm sitting now
around me everything
works cold and empty
there is no more faith
signed, sealed and delivered
it's my wounded heart
i knew it from the start
signed, sealed and delivered
i can't wait any longer
Now there's an old saying that's been all around I heard it before I could walk
How some's got health and some's got wealth others money marbles and chalk
I got money marbles and chalk sweetheart but I still feel like I am poor
Cause my money won't spend and my marbles won't roll
And my chalk won't ride anymore
While you were near me I was happy and gay your presence made me feel so proud
But you left me for another for another one day now I feel alone in a crowd
I got money marbles and chalk...
The money marbles and chalk is all right to misers who love only gold
But give me a chance to save our romance for I love you with all of my soul
I was standing by my window yesterday morning
Without a thought a worry or of care
When I saw the postman coming down the pathway
With such a happy smile and jolly air
He rang the bell and he whistled while he waited
And then he said good morning to you Jack
But he little knew the sorrow that he brought me
When he handed me a letter edged in black
With trembling hands I took the letter from him
I broke the seal and this is what it said
Come home my boy your poor old father wants you
Come home my boy your dear old mother's dead
Your mother's last words she ever uttered
Was tell my boy I want him to come back
Oh my eyes are blurred my poor old heart is breaking
While I'm writing you this letter edged in black
Those angry words I wish I'd never spoken
You know I did not mean them don't you Jack
May the angels bear me witness I am asking
Your forgiveness in this letter edged in black
I can see the postman whistling every morning
Coming down the pathway with his pack
But he never knew the sorrow that he brought me
Well I pulled outta Pittsburgh a rollin' down that Eastern Sea board
I got my diesel wound up and she's runnin' like a never before
There's a speed zone ahead alright I don't see a cop in sight
Six days on the road and I'm a gonna make it home tonight
I got me ten forward gears and my George overdrive
I'm takin' little white pills and my eyes are open wide
I just passed a Jimmy in white I been passin' everything in sight
Six days on the road and I'm a gonna make it home tonight
Well it seems like a month since I kissed my baby goodbye
I could have a lotta women but I'm not like that sort of a guy
I could find one to hold me tight but I could never make believe it's alright
Six days on the road and I'm a gonna make it home tonight
[ guitar ]
ICC is a checkin' on down the line
Well I'm a little overweight and my log book's way behind
Well nothin' bothers me tonight I could dodge all the scales alright
Six days on the road and I'm a gonna make it home tonight
Well my rig's a little old but that don't mean she's slow
There's a flame from my stack and that smoke's some blowin' like it's coal
My hometown's a comin' in sight if you think I'm happy you're right
Six days on the road and I'm a gonna make it home tonight
Six days on the road and I'm a gonna make it home tonight
The seasons come the seasons go we get a little sunshine rain and snow
Just the way that it was planned to be
But there's no season in my heart while you play the leading part
Cause the flowers will bloom eternaly
Your leavin' will bring autumn sorrow and my tears like withered leaves will fall
But spring could bring some glad tomorrow and darling we could be happy after all
[ steel ]
As it is in nature's plan no season gets the upper hand
How I try to keep this fact in mind
The trees are bare the cold winds blow and by experience we should know
That winter comes but the spring is close behind
You're losing interest in me, and it's showing.
It ain't no big thing, but it's growing.
The pain of heartbreak, I've just starting knowing.
It ain't no big thing, but it's growing.
Everyday the hurt grows bigger than before.
But I'll pretend that I don't notice,
If I can hold you one day more.
You got the look of someone who is going.
You're gonna leave me and it's showing.
A little tear I can feel, start to flowing.
It ain't not big thing, but it's growing.
You got the look of someone who is going.
You're gonna leave me and it's showing.
A little tear I can feel, start to flowing.
It ain't no big thing, but it's growing.
Born just south of Knoxville to a family both humble and poor
Never asked for anything at the early age of ten delivered newspapers door to door
Then when he was in his teens he dreamed and scheemed for finer things
And he finally figured out what he would do
To be a big time business man he went and hired old Hoke and Stan
And he started holdin' Chattanooga booze
Soon his pockets filled with money and his fingers sported flashing diamond rings
He had all he'd ever wanted when they labelled him the bootlegger king
He always trusted Stan and Hoke to do exactly as were told
They were hired to drive and not to think
A smooth talking business man and he convinced old Hoke and Stan
That booze was made for selling not to drink
That old spring city fally never knew what all it carried
But they knew when she unloaded by the banks
Two rusty rigs roared out of there brakin' scrapin' jammin' gears
Disguised to look like gasoline tanks
He knew the ways of opperate runnin' Highway 58
Right on into Kingston Tennessee
To make the sheriff turn his back and face that old green pole and jack
And swap the load at junction Dixie Lee
That bootlegger king's fingers flashed with diamond rings
And the lawman never knew quite where to wait
But they knew it for the truth for a load of hundred proof
He would flash his old pearl handled 38
Then one day he met a girl the sweetest thing in all the world
He knew the time had come to change his life
But it kinda hurt to go to church to find the ones that got there first
Was the same crooks he dealt with just last night
The only thing that they believed is honor among the thieves
And he found a lot of partners on the scene
The choir's mouth were opened wide and that old deacon's bloodshot eyes
Were focused on that bootlegger king
He sat there on the mourners bench that new born baby made him think
He knew he had a lot he must confess
He knew enough to write a book with every name of every crook
So he'd expose the whole rotten mess
And now he's got his conscience clear he still don't know the name of beer
Though true friends are few and far between
He ain't proud of what he had to do he's heard the words that said the truth
They're out to get that bootlegger king
Here you are in my arms again I should start running
Before you break my heart again I should start running
I tried and tried to cast aside the love I hold for you
But the time like this makes me forget that you were untrue
My heart says run you foolish one your lips tell me to stay
I'm caught between a right and wrong and don't know which to take
Here you are in my arms...
[ strings ]
Why don't you haul off and love me one more time
Why don't you squeeze me until I'm turning blind
If you don't cuddle up and love me like I want you to do
I'm a gonna haul off and die over you
They say the love bug will get you at the age of forty-three
Well I'm not telling my age but something's got a hold of me
I'm just craving some lovin' in that old fashion way
Honey linger near and listen to all I had to say
Why don't you haul off...
[ steel ]
Now darling come a little closer put your little hand in mine
Let me feel your arms about me honey please don't change your mind
Cause my lovesick heart's a troublin' as I hold you close to mine
I'm bout havin' lot of lovin' waitin' for me on the line
(Please baby wait for me wait for me wait for me)
I got loaded last night on a bottle of gin
And I had a fight with my best girl friend
But when I'm drinking I am nobody's friend
But please baby wait for me until they let me out again
I know the same thing has happened before
And everytime it does I hate it more and more
But when I'm drinking I am nobody's friend
But please baby wait for me until they let me out again
(Spent a whole lotta time)
Spent a whole lotta time (spent a whole lotta time) sittin' and thinkin'
(Spent a whole lotta time) sittin' and just thinkin' bout you
If I didn't spend so much time sittin' and drinkin'
We'd still have the love that we once knew
Oh oh I won't promise the same thing won't happen again
But I can promise it'll be a long long time till then
Cause when I'm drinking I am nobody's friend
But please baby wait for me until they let me out again
Doo da doo doo doo a doo da doo doo doo
Who is the girl wearin' nothin' but a smile and a towel
In the picture on the billboard in the field near the big old highway
Rolling down the highway in my Jimmy haulin' freight
From Chicago to St Louis Lord I see her every day
A double clutching weasel like me can hardly ever get a girl to look at him that way
Like the girl wearin' nothin' but a smile and a towel
In the picture on the billboard in the field near the big old highway
Wow what a girl wearin' nothin' but a smile and a towel
In the picture on the billboard in the field near the big old highway
I bet it wouldn't take her long to be gone
If someone would pull a dirty trick and take her towel away
I slow my Jimmy down to twenty that's how many wrecks I see there every day
Caused by the girl wearin' nothin' but a smile and a towel
In the picture on the billboard in the field near the big old highway
A doo da doo doo doo a doo da doo doo doo
Oh I love the girl wearin' nothin' but a smile and a towel
In the picture on the billboard in the field near the big old highway
I guess I'm gettin' bolder cause I'd rather kiss and hold her
Than just keep a lookin' at her everyday
At 4: 45 coffee drinking eatin' time Jimmy shimmies
While I wake up the artist who painted the display
Of the girl wearin' nothin' but a smile and a towel
In the picture on the billboard in the field near the big old highway
Doggone that girl wearing nothing but a smile and a towel
In the picture on the billboard in the field near the big old highway
Sleepy headed painter said the girl wasn't real better get the (kwee) on my way
On Route 66 from the billboard to Chicago
You will find tiny pieces of my heart scattered every which a way
Scattered by the girl wearin' nothin' but a smile and a towel
In the picture on the billboard in the field near the big old highway
Do you know what this is
No, I don't
But whatever it is
It's very powerful
Have you felt this way before
Oh, I thought I knew
Do you know that I love you now
Oh yes, I do
Love is
You've got the softest lips
You know that I cannot stay
Yes, I know
It has nothing to do
With you or with love
Oh, yes it does
Do not call or come around here
Do not tell
You know that I loved you then
Oh well...
Love is
You've got the softest lips
Love is
The touch of your fingertips
Love is
Knowing you won't let go
She awakens things
That he said he thought were dead
He says, are you happy now
Oh yes, I am
But when it's over
How then will you feel
Will you miss those arms that used to go
Around you
So she stood there in the hallway frozen
In the dark
And her heart broke down
She cried
She fell to the floor
One tear
Slid across her lips
To the corner of her mouth
Love is
And dropped to the floor
Love is
You've got the softest lips
Love is
The touch of your fingertips
Ooh, she says love is
Knowing you won't let go
Love is
Watching you go
You're so very powerful
Love is
Am I happy
Yes I am
Do I know you love me now
Yes I do
Do I know you cannot stay
I know
All about love
All about love
There's so many people breaking up their homes
Neighbors callin' one another on the phone
Gossips say that our break up is overdue
Oh I couldn't stand the thought of losing you
Oh I couldn't stand the thought of losing you
And with one another's help we'll see it trhough
They can't hurt us with their talking that they do
Oh I couldn't stand the thought of losing you
[ steel ]
I just wish that we could make them understand
All the problems that we have are dwelt in hand
And our troubles don't concern our neighbors too
Oh I couldn't stand the thought of losing you
We just finished our dinner and
I'd gone in the den and turned on the TV.
When she walked in and kissed me
on the cheek like a million times before.
And she said "Honey, I know It's late.
But if you don't mind, My shoppings gotten a little behind.
So I think I'll drive downtown to the grocery store."
Well. I didn't look up, Just nodded OK and asked her to
hand me an ashtray.
And when she did, I reached over and squeezed
her hand, And then she left.
And I shuddered a minute
At the thought of my world without her in it.
And I reassuringly sought the touch
of my wedding band.
Well. I musta been dozing,
'cause I didn't hear the door.
And I thought now that's strange,
I've never done that before.
But I looked up, And she was standing by my chair.
"Kinda snucked in on me" I said,
And she smiled and nodded her head.
And I told her that she looked just like an angel
standing there.
For a long moment she didn't say a thing.
And then she caressed her gold wedding ring.
And I thought I saw a tear drop in her eye.
"Honey, You'll never know how much I love you"
She said.
And I thought of the many years that we had been wed.
As I told her that no one could be as happy as I.
And then the strangest feeling filled the room.
Not one of happiness but one of gloom.
And for the first time in my life, I saw sadness in her face.
I reached out to touch her, and she drew away.
And she told be again, That ours was a love.
That time could never erase.
And then I thought I heard a thousand voices singing
But I realized it was the telephone ringing.
And that's when I saw the halo
Surround her pretty golden hair.
I turned trembling to the receiver and heard a cold voice
say there had been a wreck out on the highway.
And I knew that when I looked back, She wouldn't be there.
Roll big wheels roll roll big wheels roll
Roll big wheels roll roll big wheels roll
King of the open road
Big wheels you're singing as you're rolling along
Just like Hank Snow there Movin' On
So roll big wheels roll so roll big wheels roll
So roll big wheels roll king of the open road
I'm leavin' out of Memphis goin' to Nashville creek
Tonight I'm gonna sittin' on the Grand Ole Opry
So roll big wheels roll...
[ guitar ]
Out of Loui'ville there's a truck stop with a pretty little miss
She brings me a cup of coffee while she's doin' a twist
So roll big wheels roll...
The big town of Detroit is the end of my run
That's where I'll drop my load and then I'll have me so fun
(Each time you'll dancing you'll waltzing with sin)
Someday you'll find that the world left you out
No true love no nothing just roamin' about
While party love people and the cold heart within
And each time you're dancing you're waltzing with sin
You're satan made over in perfect disquise
Unfaithful unworry and though so I'm wise
I'll pitty the heart of the next guy you win
Like he'll be losing while walting with sin

Good evening young man do you know who I am
From the look on your face I think you may
You know my wife much too well you've made my life a living hell
Now I'm the man who comes to stand in your way
All the blame is not on you this kinda game always takes two
But God helps us if you don't hear what I say this very day
I don't like your cheatin' plans you'd better listen while you can
Cause I'm the man who comes to stand in your way
[ guitar + harmonica ]
I must have failed her somehow but I won't fail her now
All that matters is that she's come back to stay
So young man I beg of you don't make me do what I can't to do
Cause I'm the man who comes to stand in your way
I'm gonna keep her no matter what she's my wife she's all I've got
And before I lose her love I'll see you kid and laid away
So I'm warnin' you young man but I won't warn you again
I was waiting on a ship to Vietnam and me being the good time loving guy I am
I was looking for some female company I met a girl alone and lonesome just like me
We had coffee at a waterfront cafe she said her husband was a soldier far away
And she talked about her long nights all alone
And the way she's fought temptation since he's gone
1460 Elder Street is where she took me
And I never knew that love could be so sweet
Then she promised me that when the war was over
I'd have a home at 1460 Elder Street
[ fiddle ]
Two months later I was on patrol one day
When a hand grenade fell not ten feet away
I watched as one brave man gave all that he could give
He fell across it gave his life that I might live
I found a crumpled tear stained letter in his coat
And I read the Dear John Letter his wife wrote
He had nothing left for livin' for I guess
I thought I die when I saw her return adress
1460 Elder Street still drives me crazy
And sometimes at night we find it hard to sleep
Could it be the ones who killed him
Before you take another step there's something you should know
About the years ahead and how they'll be
You'll be living in a world where roses hardly ever grow
Cause all I have to offer you is me
There'll be no mansion waiting on the hill with crystal chandeliers
And there'll be no fancy clothes for you to wear
Everything I have is standing here in front of you to see
All I have to offer you is me
[ steel ]
Sweetheart I'll give you all my love in every way I can
But make sure that's what you want while you're still free
The only gold I have for you is in this wedding band
Cause all I have to offer you is me
The highways that wind and wander over mountain and valleys deserts and plains
I guess I've drove about all of 'em
Cause for the past 25 years now the cab of a truck has been my home
And it'd be kinda hard for me to settle down and not be on the go
Why I remember the first truck I drove
I was so proud I could hardly wait to get home to show my wife and my little boy
And my little boy was so excited like so when he saw his first snow
He wasn't old enough to say too many words
He just kept hollering goddyup go daddy giddyup go
So that's what I named the old truck Giddyup go
Oh things wasn't too bad of course I's gone a lot
And after about six years I got home one day and found my wife and little boy gone
I couldn't find out what happened nobody seemed to know
So from that day on it's been me and old Giddyup go
I've made a lot of friends at all the truck stops
And some of 'em would kick me about my litle sign
Of course they knew where I got the name
Cause I told 'em about that little boy of mine
And how his first word about that old truck was Giddyup go
Today I was barrelin' down old 66
When up beside me pulled down a brand new diesel rig
Both stacks of blowin' black coal
And as she pulled around and back in front of me a big lump came in my throat
And my eyes watered like I had a bad old cold
A little sign on the back of the truck that read Giddyup go
Well I pushed old Giddyup go stayed right on him
Until the next truck stop where he'd pulled up
I waited till he went in and I offered to buy him a cup
Well we got to talkin' shop and I said
Now did you come by the name on your truck Giddyup go
Well he said I got it from my pop
Dad used to drive a truck that's what mom talked about a lot
You see I lost mom when I was just past sixteen and I lost all track of pop
Mom said he got the name from me
I shook his hand and told him that I had something I wanted him to see
I took him out to the old truck
And brushed off some of the dirt so the name would show
And his eyes got big and bright as he read Giddyup go
Oh we had a lot of things to talk about and buddy I felt like a king
And now we've just pulled back on old 66 and he's handled that big rig
Better than any gearjammer that I'd ever seen
Well now the lines on the highway have got much brighter glow
It was during the Vietnam conflict
A bunch of soldiers had been on a long hike
They arrived in a town called Saigon
And the next day being Sunday, several of the boys went to church
After the chaplain read the prayer the text was taken out, those of the boys who had prayer books took them out, but one boy had only a deck of cards so he spread them out
The sergeant in charge of the boys saw the cards and said soldier put away those cards
And after the service was over the soldier was taken prisoner and brought before the propos marshal
The marshal said sergeant why have you bought this man here, for playing cards in church sir,
And what have you to say for yourself son, much sir the soldier replied
the marshal said i hope so, for if not I shall punish you severely
You see sir I've been on the march for six days and I had neither bible nor prayer book, but i hope to satisfy you sir with the purity of my intentions
You see sir when i look at the Ace it reminds me there is but one god
And when i see the deuce it reminds me that the bible is divided into two parts the old and the new testaments
And when i see the three i think of the father the son and the holy ghost
And when i see the four it i think of the four avengelists who preached the gospel, they were Mathew, Mark, Luke and John
And when i see the five it reminds me of the five wise virgins who trimmed their lamps there was ten of them five were wise and were saved five were foolish and were shut out
And when I see the six it reminds me that in six days god made this great heaven and earth
And when I see the seven it reminds me that on the 7th day god rested
And when I see the eight I think of the 8 righteous persons god saved when he destroyed this earth
There was Noah his wife and their 3 sons and their wives
And when I see the nine I think of the leapers our saviour cleansed and 9 of the ten didn't even thank him
And when I see the king it reminds me once again there's but one king of heaven god almighty
And when I see the queen I think of the Blessed Virgin Mary who is queen of heaven
And the jack of knave is the devil
And when I count the number of spots on a deck of cards i find 365 the number of days in a year there are 52 cards the number of weeks in a year there are 13 tricks the number of weeks in a quarter there are four suits the number of weeks in a month there are 12 picture cards the number of months in a year
I was out on the West Coast, tryin' to make a
buck
And things didn't work out, I was down on my luck
Got tired a-roamin' and bummin' around
So I started thumbin' back East, toward my home town.
Made a lot of miles, the first two days
And I figured I'd be home in week, if my luck held out this way
But, the third night I got stranded, way out of town
At a cold, lonely crossroads, rain was pourin' down.
I was hungry and freezin', done caught a chill
When the lights of a big semi topped the hill Lord, I sure was glad to hear them air brakes come on
And I climbed in that cab, where I knew it'd be warm.
At the wheel sit a big man, he weighed about two-ten
He stuck out his hand and said with a grin
"Big Joe's the name", I told him mine
And he said: "The name of my rig is Phantom 309."
I asked him why he called his rig such a name
He said: "Son, this old Mack can put 'em all to shame
There ain't a driver, or a rig, a-runnin' any line
Ain't seen nothin' but taillights from Phantom 309."
Well, we rode and talked the better part of the night
When the lights of a truck stop came in sight
He said: "I'm sorry son, this is as far as you go
'Cause, I gotta make a turn, just on up the road."
Well, he tossed me a dime as he pulled her in low
And said: "Have yourself a cup on old Big Joe."
When Joe and his rig roared out in the night
In nothin' flat, he was clean out of sight.
Well, I went inside and ordered me a cup
Told the waiter Big Joe was settin' me up
Aw!, you coulda heard a pin drop, it got deathly quiet
And the waiter's face turned kinda white.
Well, did I say something wrong? I said with a halfway grin
He said: "Naw, this happens every now and then
Ever' driver in here knows Big Joe
But son, let me tell you what happened about ten years ago.
At the crossroads tonight, where you flagged him down
There was a bus load of kids, comin' from town
And they were right in the middle, when Big Joe topped the hill
It could have been slaughter, but he turned his wheel.
Well, Joe lost control, went into a skid A
nd gave his life to save that bunch-a kids
And there at that crossroads, was the end of the line
For Big Joe and Phantom 309
But, every now and then, some hiker'll come by
And like you, Big Joe'll give 'em a ride
Here, have another cup and forget about the dime
