Kirk Gibson's 1988 World Series home run occurred in Game 1 of the 1988 World Series, on October 15, 1988, at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. Gibson, pinch hitting for the Los Angeles Dodgers in the bottom of the ninth inning, with injuries to both legs, hit a two-run walk-off home run off the Oakland Athletics' Dennis Eckersley that won Game 1 for the Dodgers by a score of 5–4.
After winning the National League West division, the Dodgers were considered the underdogs throughout the 1988 postseason, first to the New York Mets in the NLCS, then to the A's in the World Series. Gibson, who was not expected to play due to injuries in both legs sustained during the NLCS, was surprisingly inserted as a pinch hitter with the Dodgers trailing 4–3 with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning. Gibson's home run – his only plate appearance of the series – helped the Dodgers defeat the A's, 4 games to 1, securing their sixth World Series title.
The play has since become legendary in the baseball world, and is regarded as one of the greatest home runs of all time. It was voted the "greatest moment in L.A. sports history" in a 1995 poll. Many of the images associated with the home run, particularly Gibson pumping his fist while circling the bases, are often shown in classic highlight reels, usually accompanied by Vin Scully or Jack Buck's call. Though not related to his World Series home run, Gibson would be named the 1988 NL MVP.
Kirk Harold Gibson (born May 28, 1957) is an American former Major League Baseball player and current manager of the Arizona Diamondbacks. As a player, Gibson was an outfielder who batted and threw left-handed. He spent most of his career with the Detroit Tigers but also played for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Kansas City Royals, and Pittsburgh Pirates.
Gibson is best known for a home run he hit off Dennis Eckersley in Game 1 of the 1988 World Series, during his time with the Dodgers. He was named the National League MVP in 1988. He is the only MVP winner never to appear on an All-Star roster since the advent of the All-Star Game. He was named to the team twice, in 1985 and 1988, but declined the invitation both times. He announced his retirement from baseball in August 1995.
Following his retirement as a player, he spent five seasons as a television analyst in Detroit, then became a coach for the Tigers in 2003. He became the Diamondbacks' bench coach in 2007, and was promoted to interim manager in 2010 following the midseason dismissal of A. J. Hinch. On October 4, 2010, the Diamondbacks removed the "interim" label, naming Gibson their manager for the 2011 season.
Richard Michael "Goose" Gossage (born July 5, 1951) is a former Major League Baseball right-handed relief pitcher. During a 22-year baseball career (from 1972-1994), he pitched for nine different teams, spending his best years with the New York Yankees and San Diego Padres. The nickname "Goose" is a play on his surname. Although otherwise known as "Rich" in popular media, to family and friends he is "Rick".
In the late 1970s and early 1980s, he was one of the earliest manifestations of the dominating modern closer, with wild facial hair and a gruff demeanor to go along with his blistering fastball. He led the American League in saves three times and was runnerup twice; by the end of the 1987 season he ranked second in major league history in career saves, trailing only Rollie Fingers, although by the end of his career his final total of 310 had slipped to fourth all-time. When he retired he also ranked third in major league history in career games pitched (1,002), and he remains third in wins in relief (115) and innings pitched in relief (1,556⅔); his 1,502 strikeouts place him behind only Hoyt Wilhelm among pitchers who primarily pitched in relief. He also is the career leader in blown saves (112). From 1977 through 1983 he never recorded an earned run average over 2.62, including a mark of 0.77 in 1981, and in 1980 he finished third in AL voting for both the MVP Award and Cy Young Award as the Yankees won a division title.[citation needed]
Vincent Edward Scully (born November 29, 1927) is an American sportscaster, known primarily as the play-by-play voice of the Brooklyn and Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team on Prime Ticket, KCAL-TV and KABC radio. His 63 seasons with the Dodgers (1950–present) is the longest of any broadcaster with a single club in professional sports history, and he is second by a year to only Tommy Lasorda in terms of length of years with the Dodgers organization in any capacity.
Born in The Bronx, Scully grew up in the Washington Heights section of Manhattan. He made ends meet by delivering beer and mail, pushing garment racks, and cleaning silver in the basement of the Pennsylvania Hotel in New York City. His father was a silk salesman; his mother a Roman Catholic homemaker of Irish descent with red hair like her son. Scully attended high school at Fordham Preparatory School in the Bronx. He knew he wanted to be a sports announcer the moment he became fascinated with football broadcasts on his radio.
Scully began his career as a student broadcaster and journalist at Fordham University. While at Fordham, he helped found its FM radio station WFUV (which now presents a Vin Scully Lifetime Achievement Award each year), was assistant sports editor for Volume 28 of The Fordham Ram his senior year, sang in a barbershop quartet, played center field for the Fordham Rams baseball team, called radio broadcasts for Rams baseball, football, and basketball, got a degree, and sent about 150 letters to stations along the Eastern seaboard. He got only one response, from CBS Radio affiliate WTOP in Washington, which made him a fill-in.
[Juelz Santana]
Aight, I'm baaaack

Then I hop up in the shower, had my bitch already in it
While she ride me down, I stroke her breasts
Hopped out the shower soaking wet

[Chorus - Lil Wayne]

[Juelz Santana]

Young fly ass niggas...
Only one place for niggas like us: at the top
Ill...
It's loyalty, when will you niggas learn?
My cousin died, his ashes got urned
13 old, did what he had to do
He told me it was cool, just make sure he got shoes
Just a little something to have a train of thought
19, he was the reason a nigga had a knot
My early teens all up in the club
Poppin bottles of bub, and I'm good with the plug
I had a life way before my life now
I'm talking 50 joints and a couple pounds
Stashing choppers, that's with 100 rounds
Outfield to home plate: the way the gun em down
I really live it, I let em talk about it
Early morning routine: they got the house around it
Let em say they live it, but it's really me
One thousand: you know I gotta keep a G
[Hook - Wiz Khalifa]
Lot of weed smoke, and a lot of bottles
Homie on the weed smoke get a lot of dollars
Homie that's how we get down...
Started from the bottom now we 1st class boarding
Nigga be the show be on the flight in the morning
Homie that's how we get down...
It's off of the boat
Let em preach it, I had it
That money and weed, my life in the balance
I'm cool with the owner, eating sea food with his daughter
But before we had dinner, I was up early with joggers
Just a couple of pounds, I burn that in some days
Getting trippy with ratchets like the party I raised
Getting money with niggas who wouldn't fuck with you clowns
And for a couple stacks, young'uns be dumping them rounds
Fuck the price of them bottles cause we do it real
Couple shooters on the building, let em know to kill
From the know you for real
That's your city still
4800, my block cold-hearted you chill
So fuck what you think, this shit paying my bills
I just keep it G, you suckas be faking for real
Faking like you rich, but never had to pitch
Knowing damn well your dad a ho
You son of a bitch!
4800 - woop!

Baby you hit me so hard
Don't know, how you did it
Loco, is how I'm feeling
Don't go, you're so addictive
I cannot resist it
Let's dance, let's take it to the next level
No hands, more bass and more treble
Tonight I wanna be a rebel, whoa
You got me so excited,
I'm doing things I've never done before
Done before, whoa
And when I try to fight it
I know it's something I cannot ignore
I don't know, I don't know, I don't know
[Chorus]
Baby I don't know what you done, done, done
What you done, one done, hit a home rum
Baby I don't know what you done, done, done
What you done, one done, hit a home rum
I'm high now, I'm flying
I don't know what you did but
You hit me hard now I'm flying, all the night, yeah, yeah, yeah
Come show me how you move it
Fast, slow, control I'm loosing
This is my city, my cry
Got me locked, uh, yes...
So let's dance, let's take it to the next level
No hands, more bass and more treble
Tonight I wanna be a rebel, whoa
You got me so excited,
I'm doing things I've never done before
Done before, whoa
And when I try to fight it
I know it's something I cannot ignore
I don't know, I don't know, I don't know
[Chorus]
Baby I don't know what you done, done, done
What you done, one done, hit a home rum
Baby I don't know what you done, done, done
What you done, one done, hit a home rum
I'm high now, I'm flying
I don't know what you did but

All over my thing, like you're ready for the hang up, hang up
Ready to back my thing up,

Wait till you see my... hang up

[Chorus]
Baby I don't know what you done, done, done

The teams are assembled
Are you ready?
PLAY BALL!
The lights go on, another game day
I grabbed my bat, and headed for the plate
but the first pitch was a curve, and I was done!
(umpire) STRIKE ONE!
I stepped out of the box, looked the pitcher in the eye
you could read his lips, hey punk you're mine.
So I gave him a wink and said, "let's see what you can do"
(umpire) STRIKE TWO!
Gotta keep my eye on the ball, swing straight and true and follow through.
Don't be afraid, what-ever the call!
Because we're never alone, our coach is there to cheer us on.
well, it's the wind-up,
here comes that ball,
You gotta pray and swing, watch it till, it's goin, goin, it's gone!
oh, ohho, ohh, oh,
oh, ohho, ohh, oh,
oh, ohho, ohh, we need a home run
oh, ohho, ohh, oh,
oh, ohho, ohh, oh,
oh, ohho, we need a home run!
you know life can be like a baseball game,
We're on the same team, but were not all the same.
That's why we've got to learn to play together.
I didn't join this team to sit on the bench,
I'm goin deep, swingin for the fence.
I got some friends on base, I gotta get home!
Gotta keep your eye on the ball
swing straight and true, and follow through.
Don't be afraid, what-ever the call.
Because we're never alone,
Our coach is there to cheer us on.
Well it's the wind-up,
Here comes that ball,
You gotta pray and swing,
Watch it till it's goin goin, it's gone!
oh, ohho, ohh, oh,
oh, ohho, ohh, oh,
oh, ohho, ohh, home run!
i want a home run
ho, ohho, ohh, oh,
ho, ohho, ohh, oh,
ho, ohho, i want a home run!
We are not the first to play this game,
or stand over this plate.
We are surrounded by the legacy.
I can see them in the stands,
I can see them wavin their hands.
sayin, "go, go all the way!"
(umpire) it's goin, it's going it's going,
Oh my!
it's outta here!
that baby is gone (gone)
Come on now,
