After selling off the family's beverage distribution business in 2010, the Canales were looking for a way to do more business in their hometown, Memphis.

That's when the idea for opening spirits distillery Old Dominick was born. And after hitting several dead ends in other parts of Downtown, they settled on the 54,000-square-foot warehouse at 301 S. Front St. in the South Main district — the area that was their first choice anyway, says Chris Canale, president of D. Canale & Co.
