Albert Fred "Red" Schoendienst ( /ˈʃeɪndiːnst/; born February 2, 1923) is an American Major League Baseball coach, former player and manager, and 10-time All-star. After a 19-year playing career with the St. Louis Cardinals (1945–56, 1961–63), New York Giants (1956–57) and Milwaukee Braves (1957–60), Schoendienst managed the Cardinals from 1965 through 1976, the second-longest managerial tenure in the team's history (behind Tony La Russa's). Under his direction St. Louis won the 1967 and 1968 National League pennants and the 1967 World Series, and Schoendienst was named National League Manager of the Year in both '67 and '68. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1989 by the Veterans Committee. Schoendienst remains with the Cardinals as Special Assistant Coach; as of 2012 he has worn a Major League uniform as a player, coach or manager for 67 consecutive seasons.

Schoendienst was born in Germantown, Illinois. He signed with the Cardinals organization as an amateur free agent in 1942, and was named the Triple-A International League's Most Valuable Player in 1943 before enlisting in the Army later that year. In 1944 he received a medical discharge due to a severe injury to his left eye. The injury significantly hampered his visual acuity while batting right-handed against right-handed pitching; he trained himself as a switch hitter, and eventually became one of the best in the game.

Louis Clark "Lou" Brock (born June 18, 1939) is an American former professional baseball player. He began his Major League Baseball career with the Chicago Cubs but, spent the majority of his career as the left fielder for the St. Louis Cardinals. Brock was best known for breaking Ty Cobb's all-time major league stolen base record. He is currently a special instructor coach for the St. Louis Cardinals. Brock was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1985.

Brock was born in El Dorado, Arkansas to a family of sharecroppers. His family moved to Collinston, Louisiana when he was two years old. While his family didn't have much money, he said that he never felt poor because,"If you don't have something, you don't miss it." Brock grew up as a fan of the Brooklyn Dodgers, the team that included Jackie Robinson, Don Newcombe and Roy Campanella. Although he didn't play in organized baseball until he reached the 11th grade, he learned much about the sport from listening to Cardinals radio broadcaster Harry Caray describe the way major league hitters stood at the plate. After attending high school in Mer Rouge, Louisiana, he received academic assistance to attend Southern University in Baton Rouge but, when a low grade in his first semester meant the possibility of losing his scholarship, he decided to try out for the school's baseball team in order to secure an athletic scholarship.

Stephen Robert Holm (born October 21, 1979 in Sacramento, California) is an American professional baseball catcher for the Colorado Rockies organization.

Holm attended Sacramento's McClatchy High School, where he played shortstop. He earned 3rd Team All-American honors as a shortstop for Oral Roberts University in 2000.

Holm was drafted by the Giants in the 17th round in 2001. He beat Eliezer Alfonzo and Guillermo Rodríguez to earn a position on the major-league roster in 2008 spring training, but got sent down for Eliezer Alfonzo on July 1, 2008. He got re-called on July 23, 2008.

After playing for a short period of time on the Giants in 2009, he was sent back to Triple-A Fresno. Eli Whiteside then became the back-up catcher when Holm was unable to be re-called. Steve Holm was taken off the 40 man roster to clear room for Matt Downs, who replaced 2nd baseman Emmanuel Burriss.

In December 2010, Holm signed a minor league contract with the Minnesota Twins.

On April 14, 2011, Holm was called up to the major leagues during a Joe Mauer injury. After being sent down, he was designated for assignment on May 15. After the 2011 season, he elected for free agency.

David Adam LaRoche (born November 6, 1979 in Orange County, California), is a Major League Baseball first baseman. In 2011, the Washington Nationals signed him to a two-year deal. He is the son of Dave LaRoche and the brother of third baseman Andy LaRoche who is currently a member of the Cleveland Indians organization.

Adam LaRoche was a 1998 graduate of Fort Scott (KS) High School, where he played baseball. He was named an All-American in baseball as a senior. His uncle, Dave Regan, was his high school head coach.

He played for his father, Dave, at Fort Scott Community College in 1999 before transferring to Seminole (OK) Junior College in 2000, where he was an All-American and the MVP of the Junior College World Series.

He had been drafted by the Florida Marlins in both the 1998 and 1999 amateur drafts, but refused to sign. He was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in 2000 and did sign.

For the start of the 2004 season, the Braves made LaRoche, who had not yet made his major league debut, their starting first baseman. The left-handed LaRoche platooned with 46 year-old veteran Julio Franco and put up a respectable .278 rookie batting average.

Thurman Lee Munson (June 7, 1947 – August 2, 1979) was an American Major League Baseball catcher. He played his entire 11-year career for the New York Yankees (1969–1979). A perennial All-Star, Munson is the only Yankee ever to win both the Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player awards.

Born in Akron, Ohio, Munson was selected as the fourth pick of the 1968 Major League Baseball Draft. Munson hit over .300 in his two seasons in the Minor Leagues, establishing himself as a hot prospect. He became the starting catcher late in the 1969 season, when the Yankees were reestablishing themselves after a few losing seasons. Munson played his first complete season in 1970, becoming Rookie of the Year after hitting .302.

Considered the "heart and soul" of the Yankees, Munson became the first team captain since Lou Gehrig. He led the Yankees to three consecutive World Series, winning two of them.

Munson died at age 32 while practicing landing his Cessna Citation at Akron-Canton Airport. Munson suffered a broken neck as result of the crash and his cause of death was asphyxiation. His two companions escaped the burned aircraft.
