Robert Wolfe Quine (December 30, 1942 – May 31, 2004) was an American guitarist, known for his innovative guitar solos.
A native of Akron, Ohio, Quine worked with a wide range of musicians, though he himself remained relatively unknown in comparison. Critic Mark Demming writes "Quine's eclectic style embraced influences from jazz, rock, and blues players of all stripes, and his thoughtful technique and uncompromising approach led to rewarding collaborations with a number of visionary musicians."
His collaborators included Richard Hell & the Voidoids, Lou Reed (notably on The Blue Mask), Brian Eno (on Nerve Net), John Zorn, Ikue Mori, Marc Ribot, Marianne Faithfull (Strange Weather), Lloyd Cole, Tom Waits (Rain Dogs), Matthew Sweet, Odds, Jody Harris (Escape), and many more, including a rare 7" by rock critic and friend Lester Bangs.
Bangs once said of him:
Quine was a nephew of the philosopher W. V. Quine and second cousin once removed of the Black Keys' guitarist/vocalist Dan Auerbach.
Frederick J. "Fred" Maher (born 1964) is an American drummer, programmer and record producer.
He was a member of Massacre (1980–81), The Dance, Material, Scritti Politti, and has recorded and toured with Lou Reed. In 1984 he recorded the album Basic with ex-Voidoids guitarist Robert Quine.
Maher's credits as a producer include Lou Reed's New York (1989), Trip Shakespeare's Across the Universe (1990), Matthew Sweet's Girlfriend (1991), Information Society's self-titled album (1988, which achieved platinum sales status), their 1991 release Hack, and a track on 1997's Don't Be Afraid. Maher co-produced Lloyd Cole's debut solo album.
Maher regularly works as a studio drummer, and he has often collaborated with entertainment producer Ron Baldwin.
The name Robert is a Germanic given name, from Proto-Germanic *χrōþi- "fame" and *berχta- "bright". Compare Old Dutch Robrecht and Old High German Hrodebert (a compound of hruod "fame, glory" and berht "bright"). It is also in use as a surname.
After becoming widely used in Continental Europe it entered England in its Old French form Robert, where an Old English cognate form (Hrēodbēorht, Hrodberht, Hrēodbēorð, Hrœdbœrð, Hrœdberð) had existed before the Norman Conquest. The feminine version is Roberta. The Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish form is Roberto.
Similar to the name, Richard, "Robert" is also a common name in many Germanic languages, including English, German, Dutch, Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, and Icelandic. It can be used as a French, Hungarian, Finnish, and Estonian name as well.
Robert, and also the name Joseph, were in the top 10 most given boys' names in the US for 47 years, from 1925 to 1972.
In Italy during the Second World War, the form of the name, Roberto, briefly acquired a new meaning derived from, and referring to the Rome-Berlin-Tokyo Axis.
Ikue Mori (もりいくえ, Mori Ikue) (born 17 December 1953), also known as Ikue Ile, is a drummer, composer, and graphic designer.
Ikue Mori was born and raised in Japan. She says she had little interest in music before hearing punk rock. In 1977, she went to New York City, initially for a visit, but she fell into the music scene, and has remained in New York since.
Her first musical experience was as the drummer for seminal no wave band DNA, which also featured East Village hero Arto Lindsay. Though she had little prior musical experience (and had never played drums), Mori quickly developed a distinctive style: One critic describes her as "a tight, tireless master of shifting asymmetrical rhythm", while Lester Bangs wrote that she "cuts Sunny Murray in my book" His comment is no small praise, as Murray is widely considered a major free jazz drummer.
After DNA disbanded, Mori became active in the New York experimental music scene. She abandoned her drum set, and began playing drum machines, which she sometimes modified to play various samples. According to Mori, she was trying to make the drum machines "sound broken." Critic Adam Strohm writes that she "founded a new world for the instrument, taking it far beyond backing rhythms and robotic fills." In recent years she has used a laptop as her primary instrument, but is still sometimes credited with "electronic percussion".
Marc Ribot (/ˈriːboʊ/; born May 21, 1954) is an American guitarist and composer.
His work has touched on many styles, including no wave, free jazz, rock and Cuban music. Ribot is also known for collaborating with other musicians, most notably Tom Waits, Elvis Costello, Vinicio Capossela, and composer John Zorn.
Ribot was born in Newark, New Jersey. He has worked extensively as a session guitarist. He has performed and recorded with Tom Waits, John Zorn, David Sylvian, Jack McDuff, Wilson Pickett, The Lounge Lizards, Arto Lindsay, T-Bone Burnett, Medeski, Martin and Wood, Cibo Matto, Elysian Fields, Sam Phillips, Elvis Costello, Tift Merritt, David Poe, Allen Ginsberg, Foetus, Robert Plant & Alison Krauss, Susana Baca, The Black Keys, Stan Ridgway, Vinicio Capossela, Alain Bashung, Lyenn, Hector Zazou, McCoy Tyner, Elton John, Madeleine Peyroux, Marianne Faithfull, Leonid Fedorov, Tonio K, Andres Calamaro, Anarchist Republic of Bzzz, Diana Krall, Mike Patton and others.

Many years ago, when I lived in NYC, my friend Chuck and I were thrilled when our friend, Robert "Bob" Quine graciously accepted an invitation from our band at the time, King Cocktail, to record lead on one of our songs, "Your Place or Mine". This track was never released, and shows the amazing talent of one of rocks most under rated, and under appreciated avant gard players, our friend, Quine. The song is called "Your Place or Mine" and features Quine on lead guitar. Hope you like it. R.I.P. Quine

This guitar is one of three I purchased as soon as the collection went public after his passing in 2004. I purchased them in 9/05 and have owned all three in the videos. He had 2 triple sunbursts and each one is totally different. The Barcelona triple sunburst has a fixed bridge, tremolo but bridge was anchored so I left it that way. The other, which is the one in the video, had a floating Quine feel and was amazing. The tone and ghost of Robert is all over it. I bought these becuase he used Fernandes Stratocasters with Lou Reed on tour, and on Blue Mask. I saw Quine in 1984 with Lou and am a true fan. Talk to Rudy Pensa on 48th Street in NYC about Bobby if you have a moment. Thank you Charles in Tokyo for the purchase of this instrument. Hope you hear Robert Q when you hold it....

We are glad to present you a lecture series delivered by Professor Robert Audi, who visited Copernicus Center for Interdisciplinary Studies in June 2012. Robert Audi is a great American philosopher whose work has focused mainly on epistemology, ethics and the philosophy of mind and action. In the second lecture Professor Audi speaks of the notion of normativity.
Daniel Dennett has never been one to swallow accepted wisdom undigested. As a student he happily sought to undermine the work of his supervisor, Willard Quine. Only one of the most respected figures in 20th century philosophy, a thinker eminent enough to appear on US postage stamps. Later in Oxford, he became frustrated by his fellow philosophers' utter lack of interest in how our brains worked and was delighted when a medical friend introduced him to neurons. And so began an intellectual quest to understand the human mind that spans five decades. Apr 4th, 2017

Lloyd’s new memoir is “Everything is Combustible.” Starting in Pittsburgh and moving through New York City and beyond, with a cast full of music legends, Lloyd uses his distinct voice to chronicle Television's humble beginnings, their rise to fame, his drug addiction and recovery, and his touring adventures with artists such as Matthew Sweet, John Doe, and Robert Quine. Lloyd also details his solo years, including the backstory of his iconic and critically-acclaimed records such as “Alchemy” and “Field of Fire.” Lloyd recalls the heyday of the New York rock music scene, filling the void in the written records of music history, and...

Lou Reed plays a quick "Ping-Pong Match" with 7:30's TV journalist Geoff Hutchinson, winning the battle in 16 seconds. Next journalist, please! Our culture's journalists (and hacks) are safer now, and I will always miss Lou Reed. "I don't mind questions about my work, but interviews are always so personality oriented. I've been asked questions time after time that I'd describe as grotesque and horrible . . . questions that a friend wouldn't even ask a friend. For years I just took Andy Warhol's advice and lied. I still feel vulnerable during interviews. I know that writers say the reason they ask personal questions is that the work is so personal, but there is a line that any sensitive person should recognize. Interviewers feel it is fair game to say to me, "Are you afraid of dying?" o...
