OTTAWA - Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau refused to answer when asked if convicted terrorist Hiva Alizadeh - a Canadian-Iranian dual citizen sentenced to 24 years in prison this week - is the type of Canadian whose citizenship his party wouldn't revoke. When asked, Trudeau simply said "next question" and turned away. Trudeau opposes a recently passed bill that enshrines the government's right to strip the citizenship of dual nationals convicted of terrorism offences, calling it a "slippery slope" that creates a "two-tiered" system of citizenship. Alizadeh, the 33-year-old ringleader of a homegrown terror cell, pleaded guilty to terrorism offences, including possession of explosives. During sentencing, Judge Colin McKinnon told Alizadeh he had effectively been found guilty of treason. Speaking about the case, Immigration Minister Chris Alexander said it was proof that homegrown terrorism isn't a "phantom threat." "We do need to be able to revoke citizenship for these very grave acts," Alexander said Thursday. "Deportation is a separate matter, but we will revoke the citizenship of dual nationals who are convicted of terrorism offences." Earlier in the day, Trudeau was asked whether his party's opposition to revoking the citizenship of those convicted of terror offences applied to Alizadeh; does he believe Alizadeh's citizenship should be protected by government? "Any other questions?" was Trudeau's non answer. When asked if he believes the 24-year prison sentence was enough punishment, Liberal foreign affairs critic Marc Garneau said, "If you commit a crime including terrorism, you're going to pay for it." Unless Alizadeh lied on his application for Canadian citizenship, Garneau believes the convicted terrorist should remain a Canadian.

Professor Alan Dershowitz has released a new e-book, Terror Tunnels: The Case for Israel's Just War Against Hamas, that provides an essential primer on the recent conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. Dershowitz argues--clearly and conclusively--that Israel's war effort was not only fully justified in terms of international law, but that it was also carried out in accordance with the highest regard for the human rights of Palestinians. As he notes in the book, there are some Israelis who wish their army were less mindful of enemy civilians. In the end, roughly one Palestinian civilian was killed for every terrorist combatant. That is an astonishingly low proportion--one-fourth that of the global average, and quite extraordinary given the lengths to which Hamas, by its own admission, went to place civilians in harm's way by firing rockets at Israeli civilians from civilian areas. Dershowitz demolishes the most important anti-Israel arguments put forth during the war. He shows, contrary to the claims of radicals like John Dugard and Peter Beinart, that Gaza was not "occupied" by Israel and had not been occupied since Israel's disengagement in 2005. He draws attention to the fact that there are open spaces in Gaza that Hamas could use to launch rockets, were it really concerned about the welfare of Palestinian civilians. He also points out one of the most fundamental--and frequently overlooked--facts about the conflict: that the rocket attacks against Israeli civilians began in October 2001, immediately after President George W. Bush (yes, Bush!) became the first U.S. president officially to support the creation of a Palestinian state. Palestinian terror groups aimed to prevent that state from ever being founded--at least on a basis that would allow Israel to exist. One section of the book is worth the price of purchase all by itself: a transcript of the Skype debate between Dershowitz and Prof. John Dugard, one of the most well-respected anti-Israel activists in the world today. Dershowitz absolutely wipes the floor with Dugard, who shows a basic lack of knowledge about the facts of the conflict, and relies entirely on false Palestinian claims and false assumptions about Israeli motivations. The following passage is typical: Professor Dugard: There was no evidence that Hamas was responsible for those killings [of three Israeli teenagers]. Israel started the suppression of Hamas in the West Bank, and that sparked off the rocket firing from Gaza. I don't think it's clear, or it's fair to say, that Hamas was responsible for initiating the present conflict. Professor Dershowitz: Hamas leaders admitted responsibility for this yesterday. Professor Dugard: I was not aware of that. That passage is worth re-reading, for the full weight of Dugard's willful ignorance to sink in. He argues--and may even have convinced himself--that Israel started the war, even though the rocket fire long predated the kidnapping, and even though Hamas repeatedly violated ceasefires throughout the conflict, as the UN itself acknowledged. Dershowitz tells Breitbart News: "My only weapon in the war of words against Israel is the truth. I wrote Terror Tunnels to respond to the lies that are the basis of the new law fare directed only at the nation state of the Jewish people." Those lies can only persist in a bubble of ignorance--a bubble assiduously maintained by the likes of Dugard and others, who strut about self-righteously like putrid peacocks, displaying their dim-wittedness for the fervent applause of audiences who are less careful in concealing their prejudicial motivations.

Ezra Levant on Obama's ISIS strategy

In a prime-time speech Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET, U.S. President Barack Obama intends to outline for Americans the threat posed by ISIS and his strategy for "degrading and ultimately destroying" the group, according to the White House. Obama has been under mounting pressure to lay out a plan, particularly after he said late last month that he didn't have a strategy "yet" and that he was still figuring out exactly how to "get the job done.” The president has said that the purpose of his speech is to tell Americans about the ISIS threat and to shore up confidence that the U.S. is capable of handling it. Here are five things Obama is expected to cover off in his address to the U.S. public. 1. Airstrikes in Syria The U.S. began airstrikes against ISIS targets in Iraq in early August and hasn't let up since — more than 130 as of yesterday. It was a significant move for the U.S. to involve its military in the country once again after years of war there and thousands of soldiers killed, but Obama said it was necessary to protect American lives and interests. But ISIS militants flow freely across the Iraq-Syria border and Syria is where the Sunni jihadist group is based, so the question was raised: if the U.S. really wants to hit ISIS where it hurts, doesn't it have to go into Syria? President Bashar al-Assad is still nominally in charge in Syria, however, and he's not inviting the U.S. in the way the Iraqi government did next door. The other problem is that striking ISIS in Syria, with or without Assad's permission, might benefit the Syrian leader, whom the U.S. wants out of power. Obama has vowed to go after extremists who try and hurt Americans "wherever they are," so tonight he will have to answer whether that means Syria. If it does, he has to explain how to go about it. 2. Boots on the ground Obama has repeatedly said he won't put American soldiers back on the ground in Iraq to defeat ISIS. But he has already ordered troops back to Iraq to provide security at the U.S. Embassy and other facilities and to act as advisers to the Iraqi military and Kurdish forces in the north. "This is not going to be an announcement about U.S. ground troops," Obama said about his Wednesday speech in an interview on Meet the Press on Sunday. "What this is, is similar to the kinds of counterterrorism campaigns that we've been engaging in consistently over the last five, six, seven years." If Obama wants the American public to clearly understand his strategy he will have to lay out not only who is not going to Iraq or Syria, or wherever else, but who is and in what roles. Obama will likely make it clear that the U.S. intends to use its air power against ISIS, but when it comes to boots, they should be worn by Syrians, Iraqis and Kurds, not Americans. 3. Permission from Congress Members of the House of Representatives and the Senate returned from their summer breaks on Monday and are busy answering questions from Capitol Hill reporters about whether Obama needs to get their permission to launch airstrikes in Syria or whatever else his plan may include. Views are divided, but many say they believe the president has the authorization to act alone. He thinks so too, but he also said in his interview on Meet the Press that it's important for Congress to understand the plan and have "buy-in." Obama could signal in his speech tonight if that means holding a vote of some kind. He will have to explain what "buy-in" means. Last year at this time he was prepared to conduct airstrikes in Syria — against Assad, not ISIS — but he sought Congress's approval and didn't get it. If the White House stops short of wanting authorization this time, Obama will likely tell Americans how he is working with Congress and keeping them in the loop. Top House and Senate leaders, for example, were invited to the White House Tuesday for a meeting, and briefings and consultations are continuing, according to officials. 4. U.S. won't act alone Americans are war-weary, and while polls suggest public support for airstrikes in Iraq and Syria, they don't want to be dragged into another long conflict. Obama knows this and he's been indicating that the U.S. does not intend to shoulder this fight against ISIS alone. He needs to explain to Americans that the U.S. is trying to lead a multi-partner effort to root out ISIS that includes NATO partners and regional Arab powers such as Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Turkey. He will also need to explain that building this coalition takes time and is one reason why the U.S. hasn't yet broadened its ISIS strategy beyond the Iraq strikes. 5. ISIS threat to U.S.

There was a lot of anti-Jewish propaganda — the flags of annihilation coupled with outrageous pro-terror Muslim Brotherhood propaganda. Before the police confiscated the guns, the Muslim were posing and “shooting” people Some Muslims were carrying plastic machine guns, pretending to fire them in the air and "shooting" people.

NEW YORK, New York-- New York City hosted the 29th annual Muslim Day Parade on Sunday, with the theme “Islam and America Share Common Values.” Despite the slogan, the event featured anti-Israeli “occupation” protesters, aggressively anti-Israel speakers, and flyers were distributed featuring a doctored image of Egyptian President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi wearing swastikas on his face. The decades-old festivities were sparsely attended and shadily organized. Despite the fact that it was a sunny, refreshingly cool, but beautiful day in New York City, no more than 150 people were part of this rally. A few hundred more, mainly parents with children, were at the street fair which featured rides, food, games. It was not immediately clear who was organizing the event-- no group was listed as a sponsor. Instead, four men’s names and phone numbers were given. Whoever was in charge of the event appeared comfortable with a number of revealing, incendiary flyers being distributed against Muslim Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, who has been pivotal in stopping the Muslim Brotherhood’s expansion in his country and, thus, has incited the ire of many Islamists. One poster boasted the word WANTED in all capital letters, adding “for Crimes Against Humanity,” allegedly perpetrated by General Sisi. Another flyer advertises: “Huge Protest Against the Visit (SISI) to the United Nations. This will take place on 9/25/14. A swastika is painted on his cheek. The flyers indicate the Muslim American Day Parade was fertile ground for Muslim Brotherhood operatives. The flyers belied what appeared to be a moderate sentiment echoed by the crowd. No one was brazenly or obviously flying the flags of ISIS or of Jihad as has been done in the past. Yes, there were black and white flag-like materials intertwined with red material on some floats, but they were not flown as flags or carried as banners. While most women wore hijab, some were black and “unfriendly,” but many were rather colorful and “friendly.” Only some women were entirely face-masked or wearing burqas. The speeches added to the feeling that “Islam and America Share Common Values.” The President of the Muslim Foundation of America, Ainul Haque, urged Muslims to "get united"—but not on behalf of broad American values or on behalf of non-Muslim Americans, but on Muslim-specific goals “The Muslim community is struggling to get school holidays for children - working hard with Muslim community to get Allah's food in the schools. Please register to vote,” he urged. Another unnamed speaker offered this ambiguous message: “We have been prosecuted but (we) always obey the law. Peace be upon us. Please obey the law. America is our homeland… We are not going anywhere. Muslims are facing injustices around the world. We are here in (a) democratic society…we are thankful for elected officials - we salute you. Please bring next year your family and friends. We want to double and triple (the number of) people here. Show our strength and how peaceful we are. Clean this place. God bless America and God bless Muslims.” I hesitate to interpret what he might mean by “clean this place” but am fairly certain that some other speaker will clarify this. Other speakers were more overtly political. Dr Mohammad Battanani (sic) urged listeners to “work together for peace and justice for all. We have to work for justice for our people in Palestine, in Kashmir, in Egypt, in Iraq. It is justice for all.” Why did he have to bring in Palestine and Kashmir when Muslims mean one thing when they say these two words, and Israeli Jews and Hindus mean something entirely different, opposite? Justice for Muslims-only in Kashmir means that the very last Hindus, long under siege, have to leave so that Muslims can destroy their temples and lay claim to a city that is sacred to Hindus. The same can be said for what many Muslims consider the parameters of Palestine and the Jewish people. This man tried to redeem himself by clarifying: “ISIS does not represent us or represent Islam. We are against violence everywhere...Be with democracy not with dictators. We have to help democratic governments to end occupation everywhere.” The anti-Islamic State sentiment continued with another speaker, an Islamic scholar, adding: “We denounce any kind of terrorism. As you heard - Islam is a religion of peace. We oppose every kind of terrorism wherever it is.”
