Brooke Gabrielle Fraser Ligertwood, better known as Brooke Fraser (born 15 December 1983) is a New Zealand born award-winning folk-pop and Christian music artist. Her third studio album Flags has become the most successful album of her career, with the single "Something in the Water" reaching number one on the RIANZ singles chart in 2010.
Fraser is the eldest of the three children born to former All Black Bernie Fraser, who was born in Lautoka, Fiji, and his wife Lynda Fraser. She grew up in Naenae, Lower Hutt and attended Dyer Street School, Naenae Intermediate School and Naenae College.
Fraser took piano lessons between the ages of seven and seventeen. She started writing songs at age twelve and taught herself the acoustic guitar at fifteen. Despite her skills as a singer she has never taken singing lessons.
She performed at Parachute, an annual New Zealand music festival in 2000 – including a special guest performance in 2007.
She began writing for the Soul Purpose magazine at age fifteen, and was later made editor in 2002. She gave up her job as editor shortly after moving to Auckland in late 2002 in order to pursue her music career.
Betty was a working girl
Living in the bottom half of the world
Saving up for Friday night
Dancing underneath the lights
She would whirl
Dance come on Betty sing
Come on Betty fly by night
Every man she meets appears to like her
Then they whisper "You coming outside?"
Leaning up against the fence
Breathing hard and trying hard not to cry
Who loves you Betty
Always something standing in your way
You better get out Betty babe
Who loves you Betty
Always someone looking the other way
You better get out Betty babe
Always someone left behind
The crippled boy the last in line
The lost soul
Love today is bought and sold
Betty wants the love of days gone old
Prim, proper little miss
Gimme a little kiss, don't fuss
Who loves you Betty
Always something standing in your way
You better get out Betty babe
Who loves you Betty
Always someone looking the other way
Oh Betty
You know I loved you so
I'm shattered
It hurt so much to see you go
Give me your heart, I'll keep it beating
And your blood will spill no more
Oh I want to love you Betty
But I can't
'Cause you closed the greatest of doors
Oh Betty
Don't tell heaven where you've been
Don't you know that needing love is not a sin
Give me your soul, I'll be it's keeper
And the words I speak will be yours
Oh I try to hate you Betty
But I can't
'Cause you closed the greatest of doors
And the leaves are starting to fall from the trees again
And I remember when
And autumn wind sang a song of a sin
But I wasn't ready
Oh Betty
Oh Betty
Don't tell heaven where you've been
Didn't you know that needing love is not a sin
Give me your heart, I'll keep it beating
And your blood will spill no more
Oh I want to love you Betty
But I can't
'Cause you closed the greatest of doors
You closed the greatest of doors
you did me over
played me to the end
you took everything
i had no feelings left to spend
you're not a friend
you're just a fiend
it's time I opened my eyes to set
you my darling
don't deserve my sympathy
you broke my heart
spit on grandma's grave
tore my life apart
never left the same
before you waste more of my time
let me give you little piece of my mind...
i'm sending you down the road & i'll be fine...
ruhibonol
you gave it to me
i woke up in a tub of ice
a note & no kidney
you soiled my sheets
you skinned my cat
you stole my teeth
you see you did me over
played me to the end
you took everything
i had no feelings left to spend
i said you're not a friend
you're just a fiend
it's time I opened my eyes to see that
you my darling
don't deserve my sympathy
you broke my heart
spit on grandma's grave
tore my life apart
never left the same
before you waste more of my time
im gonna give you little piece of my mind...
i'm sending you down the road & i'll be fine...
ruhibonol
you gave it to me
i woke up in a tub of ice
a note & no kidney
i said you're not a friend
you're just a fiend
it's time I opened my eyes to see that
you my darling
don't deserve my sympathy
you soiled my sheets
and skinned my cat
you stole my teeth
and pawned my gat
You got a quick snap-lock on your cold, cold heart
You got your YSL kicks and a red birthmark
In the shape of Canada
That you try to keep a secret
You got a quick clack walk and a cold hard stare
And if your eyes could talk they'd say they just don't care
Before they wander off
To hide inside their sockets
You've got your scars and you've got your birthmarks
You've got Toronto hiding on your hip, honey
You've got your secrets
You've got your regrets
Darling, we all do
You got a fool-proof plan for a lonely life
You won't be no one's daughter and no drunk man's wife
If a wife at all
It's a silly institution
Or so you keep insisting
You've got your scars and you've got your birthmarks
You've got Toronto hiding on your hip, honey
You've got your secrets
You've got your regrets
Darling, we all do
You're cool coy, 'bout your strawberry hip
It's you that's hidden by the expectations
We want to see you, won't you show us where to start?
You're talking trash with your replica lips
It's you that tickle in the conversation
Sweet Betty, won't you show us who you are?
You've got your scars and you've got your birthmarks
You've got Toronto hiding on your hip, honey
You've got your secrets
You've got your regrets
Darling, we all do
Betty knows about her man
And anything goes what she can
Pure as the gold he sent her, her heart is an open book
But to fight is to feel her heart get hurt
I never sugared up my shames
That’s that, you know it’s no mistake
And I always played by the rules that you had set
But you broke them and pushed me away, lest we forget
She is my own Caroline now
She has no heart but she dreams in old fashion ways
And if you want her to find her
I’ll help you on your way
I love her from the distance
She always beckons me to play
And if I knew that should stay for a little while
I would see that you get your deserves, don’t you dare smile
She is my own Caroline now
She has no heart but she dreams in old fashion ways
And if you want her to find her
I’ll help you on your way
I'll help you on your way
‘Cause I'm a lie, you always said I'd love
To my surprise I'll ever worship your horrifies
The dust in my eyes
Please, don’t you dare come burst in here
‘Cause Betty’s not in here
She is my own Caroline now
She has no heart but she dreams in old fashion ways
And if you want her to find her
I’ll help you on your way
I was Archie
He was Reggie
I guess that made her Veronica
The competition was gettin heavy
Fighting for her unrequited love
And sugar sugar I was so blind and wrong
You know that Archie should have seen this all along
You're my Betty baby
Strong and steady baby
You get me ready to face about anything
With you I cannot fail I'm the king of Riverdale
Sell my jalopy baby just to buy you a ring
(You're my Betty baby)
Just to buy you a ring
(You're my Betty baby)
You know my best friend lets call him Jughead
Come to think of it it's not much of a stretch
But even he says I've come to my senses
Chasing Veronica is like walkin on a ledge
The view is so sweet if your balance is sound
But she will push you just to see how far you'll bounce
You're my Betty baby
Strong and steady baby
You get me ready to face about anything
With you I cannot fail I'm the king of Riverdale
Sell my jalopy baby just to buy you a ring
(You're my Betty baby)
And sugar sugar (sugar sugar) I was so blind and wrong
You know that Archie should have seen this all along
You're my Betty baby (baby...)
Strong and steady baby
You get me ready to face about anything
With you I cannot fail, I'm the king of Riverdale
Sell my jalopy baby just to buy you a ring
(You're my Betty baby)
Oh, just to buy you a ring
You're my Betty baby x3
Come to, come to me
Come to, come to me
Come to, come to me
I wanna hold your body
Come to, come to me
Come to, come to me
I wanna hold your body
Dadeedada... (X5)
Ever since I met you
My life just ain't the same
Every night when I close my eyes
I'm calling out your name
And baby when we're together
My heart beats out of time
And now it feels like
I'll never get to call you mine oh mine
Come to, come to me
Come to, come to me
I wanna hold your body
Come to, come to me
Come to, come to me
I wanna hold your body
Dadeedada... (X5)
It's been a week since I've met you
I'm slowly going insane
The suffering is unbearable
I hope you feel the same
Now I know that I found you
Don't wanna let you go
So baby look at me
And tell me your love for me will grow
Dadeedada... (X6)
Come to, come to me
Come to, come to me
I wanna hold your body
Come to, come to me
Come to, come to me
I wanna hold your body
GIRLS IN TIGHT DRESSES

WRITING,WINNING,
LOSING,CHEATING,
KISSING,THINKING,

Something in the way she moves
makes me think of all the things I missed
and something in the way she looks at me
makes me wonna lay down, open my mouth and get kissed..
yeah...
And she looks like I think Jesus would have looked
And she looks like I think Jesus would have looked
Now I know why Merry and the boys got (x3) hooked.
Something in the way that she walks
makes me wonna change the way I think
and something in the way she talks to me
makes me order up another drink so she can get in my ping
yeah...
And she looks like I think Jesus would have looked
And she looks like I think Jesus would have looked
Now I know why Merry and the boys got (x3) hooked.
Touch me (x7) like noother
Hold me (x7) like noother
Love me (x7) like noother... like noother...
Something in the way she just is
makes me wonder who the hell I've been
and something in the way we are
makes me wanna dive down into a brand new sin
yeah...
And she looks like I think Jesus would have looked
And she looks like I think Jesus would have looked
Now I know why Merry and the boys got (x3) hooked.
If you want it, come and get it...I know how much you do
If you work and if you're worthy, I just might give it to you.
I am the it girl and it can happen to you
I'm a regular Josephine, a silent movie queen,
a '70's TV dream, and a star of the winning team
I can drive any hot rod car, get my name in a cement start
toss em back in a famous bar, and find religion when I go too far
And darlin, I am the one...for fun...everyone
If you want it, come and get it...I know how much you do
If you work and if you're worthy, I just might give it to you.
I am the it girl and it can happen to you
I'm the queen of the rodeo, b-starlett at the drive in show
rock goddess on the radio and the next door neighbor that you want to know
I can work any hardware tools, graduated from the finest school
I live my life breakin all the rules, and I never ever ever ever lose my cool.
Darlin I am the one, for fun, everyone
Worship me, on your knees..
Well I am amorous, glamorous, dangerous, scandalous,
I love who I want, love what I want, love where I want
I want I want I want
I wanted you to know I love the way you laugh
I wanna hold you high and steal your pain away
I keep your photograph; I know it serves me well
I wanna hold you high and steal your pain
'cause I'm broken when I'm open
And I don't feel like I am strong enough
'cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome
And I don't feel light when you're gone away
The worst is over now and we can breathe again
I wanna hold you high, you steal my pain away
There's so much left to learn, and no one left to fight
I wanna hold you high and steal your pain
'cause I'm broken when I'm open
And I don't feel like I am strong enough
'cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome
And I don't feel right when you're gone away
'cause I'm broken when I'm open
And I don't feel like I am strong enough
'cause I'm broken when I'm lonesome
You're hanging up signs tossing and turnign at night driving round and round the neighborhood calling me, hoping i might pop out you're calling the paper, describing my features like i'm you're favorite creature (now that i'm gone) galloping down the highway, i see what i may become
This system was designed for travelers of another kind, but, if you wanted me stagnant, these photographs should serve you fine i know you meant well, but a cage is still a cage just one lonely corner of a world that's supposed to be my stage
You're hanging up signs, tossing and turning at night but don't believe that i'll be bounding behind because i know where you're driving so, call the paper. describe my features like i'm you're favorite creature (now that i'm gone) galloping down the highway, i see all i may become
This system will be fine (i'm going to make it mine) so now do you notice that the my was all in your mind? the wind, the same sweet wind, blows on me, too telling me what lies ahead, taking someting of me back to you
