Canacona Railway Station is situated about 7 km from Canacona. It is a railhead under the administration of Konkan Railways. Madgaon Passenger, Netravathi Express, Matsyaganda Express and Madgaon- Mangalore Passenger touch this station. Madgaon Railway Station is nearby. Just 3 km from the station is Palolem Beach, Goa's most beautiful and idyllic beach. Rajbhag Beach is another major attraction nearby. The major town close to the station is Margao (45 km.) Hotel Molyma (1 km) and Palolem Beach Resort (3 km) near the station offer lodging facilities. The nearest airport is Goa Airport, at Dabolim (70 km.)

Entry from: Canacona, India Entry Title: "Palolem, India" Entry: "I finally made it to Palolem Beach after a Rickshaw/Train/Motorbike/Bus/Bus combination of transport which is interesting especially when you haven't got a clue where you're going or what it's going to look like when you get there, and when you finally get ushered off the bus whether you have actually arrived yet?? Palolem is more like Ibiza than India (there's even a Cafe del Mar); lots of ex-pats and 1 week holiday goers and the parties go on all night. After a day in the sun the day before I decided to take it easy and headed for the sanctuary of a beach side cafe where the rum finally made an appearance and I eventually stumbled home along the beach to my little hut at about 4am this morning without a rupee in my pocket. I hired a motorbike to visit Agonda Beach, north of Palolem. The beach was ok but the ride was more enjoyable, and so nice to be able to drive yourself wherever you want. Tonight I'm off to a party on a rocky outcrop at the northern end of the beach which you can only get to by swimming there, I think it is accessible during the day but when the tide comes in at night makes getting there an adventure in itself. A typical Goan village prevalent in the old conquests has been painstakingly re-created at Mashifond Poinguinim in Canacona taluka where the annual Lokutsav was organized on Saturday by Adarsh Yuva Sangh of Canacona along with Balaram Gram Vikas Sanstha also from Canacona. The Lokutsav was truly an enlightening event as besides the various competitions held, there were many exhibitions giving a glimpse of the bygone days in Goa and the various things used during that period in day to day life.

Entry: "A phone call last night had informed us that due to terrible fog in Delhi (where temperatures had plunged to 12 degrees) our inbound flight to Udaipur, which would pick us up and carry on to Mumbai, would be running late. Thankful not to be faced with a 5.30am start, but a little concerned that we were now facing just a 20 minute transfer window to connect to our flight to Goa, we awoke early anyway with a slight sense of anxiety. Domestic air travel in India is notorious for delays and cancellations so I had the feeling our charmed travel to date was about to fall apart. A final breakfast in Rajasthan was taken overlooking the lake where we watched a hot air balloon serenely float low over the water as the sun rose and the dawn sky lit up. Bidding goodbye to the Lake Palace and settling the bill with a loud gulp and a prayer to American Express, we made our last crossing and found Kamal waiting for us at the other side. A short time later we took our leave of the gentle giant. Handshakes, hugs and an envelope full of rupees to say thankyou sweetened our farewells, and we were sad to see him go. Canacona is located at . It has an average elevation of 10 metres (32 feet).
Demographics
India census, Canacona had a population of 11,900. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Canacona has an average literacy rate of 72%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with male literacy of 78% and female literacy of 66%. 10% of the population is under 6 years of age. In addition to Konkani, Kannada is also spoken here.
