Hashim (Arabic: هاشم) is a common male Arabic given name, which signifies broker or destroyer of evil. The title Hashim was given to 'Amr al-ʻUlā ibn 'Abd Manaf, the great-grandfather of the Islamic prophet Muhammad and the progenitor of the Banu Hashim clan of the distinguished Quraish tribe in Mecca. In present days, the Hashim family in the Arab world counts both Muslim and Christian members.

Hashim Thaçi ([hɐˈʃɪm ˈθɑːtʃɪ] ( listen); born 24 April 1968) is the Prime Minister of Republic of Kosovo, the leader of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (DPK), and former political leader of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA).
Hashim Thaçi was born in Srbica, in the Autonomous Province of Kosovo and Metohija, in what was then Yugoslavia. He studied philosophy and history at the University of Pristina. During his university years, he was an Albanian student leader and the first student president of the parallel Albanian University of Pristina that broke off in 1989 (and organized in the early 1990s) from the official University due to Kosovo Albanians' protest of Slobodan Milošević's new imposed status of the Autonomous Province of Kosovo and Metohija.
By 1993, Hashim Thaçi joined the Albanian political émigré group in Switzerland, where he also pursued postgraduate studies at the University of Zurich in the departments of history and international relations. There he became one of the founders of the People's Movement of Kosovo (LPK).
Hashim Mahomed Amla (born 31 March 1983) is a South African cricketer. A right-handed upper order batsman and occasional medium-pace bowler, Amla bats at number 3 for South Africa in Test matches and has opened in limited overs contests. He is currently ranked by the International Cricket Council as the world's top batsman in One Day Internationals (ODIs).
Upon graduating from Durban High School and impressing in the youth circuit, Amla made his debut for his provincial team, the KwaZulu Natal Dolphins, soon captaining South Africa at the 2002 Under-19 Cricket World Cup in New Zealand, leading his team to the final. During his formative years, former Western Province captain and coach Hylton Ackerman had been influential in Amla's development, first spotting his talent and honing his skills during his coaching career. His promise led him to being appointed captain of Kwazulu-Natal at the young age of 21. Amla is a devout practicing Muslim Amla has been cited as a future captain of South Africa ever since his first class years.
