Embassy

The series portrays the eventful lives of the Australian ambassador and his staff in Ragaan, an imaginary South East Asian military dictatorship (not unlike Myanmar), with elements of office politics, Australian and Ragaan's 'real' domestic politics, diplomacy as Australia is the closest strictly western regional major power with significant economic (mainly oil) interests, corruption, drug trade and other smuggling, cultural differences, the 'consular' affairs of citizens from or going to Australia, asylum seekers...

In a video taken by ESAT TV that captured the incident, the man, wearing a dark suit and holding a silver handgun, is seen pointing the weapon at others who try and reason with him during the confrontation, which occurred during a protest at the embassy. The Secret Service said it was called to the embassy at 12:15 p.m. on a report of “possible shots fired,” but in the video he fires a single shot. It is not clear whether the gun was fired at anyone or in the air. No one was injured, Secret Service spokesman Brian Leary said. The name of the man who was detained was not immediately released. Shots fired outside Ethiopian Embassy

WASHINGTON - Shots were fired outside the Embassy of Ethiopia in D.C. on Monday afternoon. It happened around 12:15 p.m., according to the U.S. Secret Service. Officers responded immediately after hearing reports of shots being fired, and they detained and questioned an Ethiopian guard who works at the embassy. He is believed to have fired the shots. An Ethiopian television network caught the shooting on camera while they were covering a protest at the embassy. FOX 5's Maureen Umeh has been told similar anti-government protests happen frequently here and are usually peaceful. However, some protesters went onto embassy grounds on Monday and taunted the guard. He responded by firing warning shots, one of which struck a woman's car and shattering her front window. No injuries were reported. The Embassy of Ethiopia is located at 3506 International Drive, NW.

Hakan Karakuş, the Turkish fighter pilot who was allegedly beaten by Kuwaiti Embassy Attaché Amad Ali Almohaid and his Turkish driver, has said in his testimony that he only escaped with the help of the people at the scene. The incident, which broke after a traffic quarrel in the capital city of Ankara on Sept. 10, has triggered a diplomatic spat between the two countries, with Turkey summoning Kuwaiti Ambassador Abdullah Abdulaziz al-Duwaikh. “If the people there did not save me, I might not be alive,” said Karakuş in his testimony to military officials, Hürriyet has learned. “The man who attacked me was tall, muscular and had brown hair. The one who was leading him in Arabic was curly haired and had a belly,” he added. His statements echoed his testimony, delivered on Sept. 18. Before attacking, the driver said “Get out of here, or I’ll beat you in front of your wife and kids,” according to Karakuş's testimony. The pilot said he would get out of his car to see if there was any damage and was then badly attacked. Speaking to the Hürriyet Daily News on Sept 16., Ambassador al-Duwaikh said the Turkish court must prove his diplomat is guilty of attacking the Turkish pilot for the embassy to send the diplomat back to Kuwait.
