Dwelling, as well as being a term for a house, or for living somewhere, or for lingering somewhere, is a philosophical concept which was developed by Martin Heidegger. Dwelling is about making oneself at home where the home itself is any place for habitation. In the US, the legal definition of dwelling varies from state to state but most include language that defines characteristics for the purposes of habitation. In the UK, a dwelling is defined (in line with the 2001 Census definition) as a self-contained unit of accommodation.
EXAMPLE SPECIFIC US STATE DEFINITIONS
According to N.C. Gen. Stat. § 160A-442, "Dwelling" means any building, structure, manufactured home or mobile home, or part thereof, used and occupied for human habitation or intended to be so used, and includes any outhouses and appurtenances belonging thereto or usually enjoyed therewith, except that it does not include any manufactured home or mobile home, which is used solely for a seasonal vacation purpose.
According to N.C. Gen. Stat. § 53-244.030, "Dwelling" means a residential structure that contains one to four units, whether or not that structure is attached to real property. The term includes an individual condominium unit, cooperative unit, manufactured home, mobile home, or trailer if it is used as a residence.
Dame Catherine Cookson DBE (née McMullen) (27 June 1906 – 11 June 1998) was a British author. She became the United Kingdom's most widely read novelist, with sales topping 100 million, while retaining a relatively low profile in the world of celebrity writers. Her books were inspired by her deprived youth in North East England, the setting for her novels.
Born as Catherine Ann McMullen at 5 Leam Lane in Tyne Dock, South Shields, County Durham, she was known as "Kate" as a child. She moved to East Jarrow, County Durham which would become the setting for one of her best-known novels, The Fifteen Streets. The illegitimate child of an alcoholic named Kate Fawcett, she grew up thinking her unmarried mother was her sister, as she was brought up by her grandparents, Rose and John McMullen. Biographer Kathleen Jones tracked down her father, whose name was Alexander Davies, a bigamist and gambler from Lancashire.[citation needed]
She left school at 13 and, after a period of domestic service, took a laundry job at Harton Workhouse in South Shields. In 1929, she moved south to run the laundry at Hastings Workhouse, saving every penny to buy a large Victorian house, and then taking in lodgers to supplement her income.

I'd never let myself smell the roses
I'd drink a bitter wine
With memories of Moses
In a broken line.
My idols on pedestals -
I threw them all away,
'Cause I could not tell the lies
From the light of day.
Oh, Happiness Road
Is hard way to hoe
A mile of broken stone
miles all alone
miles and miles
Bitterness is a cruel mistress
I was standing in line
And I guess I missed this
Warning sign
No bills posted
No message on the wall
You'll get it at all.
'Cause Happiness road
Is hard way to hoe
A mile of broken stone
miles all alone
miles and miles
We make our own myths
It's only hit or miss
And anything else would be
Better than this
Better than a mile of broken stone
miles all alone
miles and miles
miles and miles
miles and miles...

The world keeps spinning 'round
Spinning while you sleep
Flying 'way the minutes
Minutes never keep
Wheels turning on ahead
Turning by so fast
Time is on no one's side
Nothing never lasts
On and on and on, on and on
WORLD ON A WING
Pay the piper, he'll soon be gone
WORLD ON A WING
The world keeps turning 'round
Turning in a dance
Moving never stopping
Are there any accidents?
Clocks turning on ahead
I take no faith in luck
Everything will pass someday
Always in a flux
On and on and on, on and on
WORLD ON A WING
Pay the piper, he'll soon be gone
WORLD ON A WING

Now I lay me down to sleep.
A child prays his soul to keep.
He never shuts his eyes,
He lays awake to watch the skies.
The trees are moving in the shadows
Of the silver mirror moon
And he sees...
WIND WITHOUT WALLS
WHEN THE NIGHT FALLS
A child always dreams
When he's awake - when he's asleep
It seems. A child sees the wind,
He sees things we cannot imagine -
Lions stalking, toys are talking.
Is it make-believe?
And he sees...
WIND WITHOUT WALLS
WHEN THE NIGHT FALLS

Some days you feel like giving up
Staring into the empty cup
Loneliness is no reward for losing
Another promise broken
And one more useless token
So many ways to lose as there is for choosing.
Falling and speechless, alone and then
Laughing at secrets of hope again.
Love comes for some like a fool's gold
Some keep searching for something shining to have and to hold
Mining for TRUE GOLD
Trying to find TRUE GOLD
Truth and lies fall into the heart
The two are hard to tell apart
Something true is all you're thinking of
Sometimes it seems like too much to ask
Such an ill-forsaken task
That's just trying to find someone to love
Falling and speechless, alone and then
Laughing at secrets of hope again.
Love comes for some like a fool's gold
Some keep searching for something shining to have and to hold
Mining for TRUE GOLD
Trying to find TRUE GOLD
Lady
In a night full of rain
Sailed the future
Out where no one ever came
No one knew her name
Was just a dream
SANTA MARIA
Sun and moon and sea
SANTA MARIA
She is calling me
Silver skies are shining where we'll dance and weep
Tearful eyes sing "vida es mia"
SANTA MARIA
Badlands
It's only in your hands
We will leave when
The sun comes behind the land
Candles in the sand
Burning bright
SANTA MARIA
Winds to sail the sea
SANTA MARIA
She is calling me
Silver skies are shining where we'll dance and weep
Tearful eyes sing "vida es mia"

Try to believe in this thing
There's a guardian in the wings.
I know you feel all alone
Words can hurt like sticks and stones.
Come and look this way
I wish you could hear me say
I've been in all your lonely days.
I'M YOUR GUARDIAN ANGEL
I'LL ALWAYS BE WITH YOU
I'M YOUR GUARDIAN ANGEL
And when you fall, I'm around
When you cry, I know the sounds
Don't be afraid, I'll set you free
When you need love, think of me
Come and look this way
I wish you could hear me say
I've been in all your lonely days.
I'M YOUR GUARDIAN ANGEL
I'LL ALWAYS BE WITH YOU
I'M YOUR GUARDIAN ANGEL
A hundred years and a thousand nights
A blue colder than snow
A man with promise was coming to me
Where do promise go?
Where do they go?
Lone like a tree in the winter
Empty and bare
Never a word of good-bye
It froze in the air
BLUE SOLITAIRE
He rushed to my side and from out of nowhere
He was stealing a kiss
We were so young and foolish at heart
Never knew if would turn out like this
The turn of a kiss.
Gone on a plane in the night
I never knew if he cared
Never a word of goodbye
It frozen in the air
BLUE SOLITAIRE
