I know I'm not the only "Youngson Baby". Watching his compilations as a child, were the main reason for my passion for "slapstick" film comedy. One of the many iconic scenes I remember marvelling at, was Billy Bevan in a car, on the edge of a cliff, with a rope around his neck and Vernon Dent hanging off the other end of it! The scene was from 'Wall Street Blues' - a "lost" Sennett. It had always been an ambition to try and reconstruct this film and I was finally able to achieve this a couple of years ago. It was shown at Slapsticon in 2013, and at the Cinema Museum in London last year, but hey, I thought you may want to see it too! Viva Bevan!

Pretty much for the die-hard fans of Myrna and for those who are curious about those early roles in which she was miscast as the vamp/temptress. ..... Based on the Thackeray novel of the same name; Myrna plays Becky Sharp, who schemes to attain wealth and position -- only things don't turn out so well. ..... I've read that it was shot in 10 days, and that feels just about right. ..... Cast includes Conway Tearle, Barbara Kent, Billy Bevan, Montagu Love, and Lionel Belmore. Screenplay by F. David Macleod gives a talk about how long ago seen movies, like a fine wine, improve sometimes falsely with age. Graceanne Macleod gives a great introduction. David Macleod: With more than 25 years working for London's Channel 4 Television, David Macleod is co-founder of the UK Buster Keaton Society, The Blinking Buzzards, as well as secretary of the Damfinos. He wrote two books on our boy: The Sound of Buster Keaton (1995) and Looking Back (2001), about Buster's 1951 UK music hall tour. He also edited a third: a compilation of articles from the first 25 issues of the Blinking Buzzards newsletter, The Buster Bulletin. He even met his bride, Graceann, through Buster: They met at the third Damfinos Convention in 1997. David is incredibly proud to have attended every Damfinos Convention, an honour he shares only with Jack Dragga. Did you like the talk? Do you like Buster Keaton? Buster Keaton, The making, unmaking and remaking of "the Blacksmith". Nicolas provides a very informative talk about the two already known versions of "The Blacksmith". He contrasts this with the newly discovered directors (Buster Keaton) cut that was thought lost to the ages. A fantastic speaker, with a great grasp of his subject; a fascinating tale of how the mind of the master (Buster Keaton) worked. Nicolas Ciccone : Is a former intern at CineMuseum LLC who was involved in the Mack Sennett Project. Currently, he is a Michigan-residing college student thinking of pursuing a career in film preservation. His mentors in this field include David Shepard, Don Crafton, Paul E. Gierucki, and David B. Pearson. A great talk given at the Frauenthal Center for the Performing Arts in Muskegon Michigan as part of the 20th annual Buster Keaton convention. Audio clip: Interview with Charlie Chaplin (29:10) Posted: 04 Dec 1954 Charles Spencer Chaplin (1889-1977), also known as Charlie Chaplin, stands for many as the greatest comedian. He was born in London and his childhood was marked by poverty and deprivation. His first stage appearance was like 5 years old and it became clear what the boy was going to be. Offer of movie contract came as a result of it, and suddenly was Chaplin's silent film career started with a total of 35 films in the first year. In the film'' Kid Auto Races at Venice'' (1914) occur Chaplin as the tramp with big, baggy pants, too big shoes, bowler hat, cane and a small mustache, who would become his trademark. Chaplin composed, directed and played himself in a whole range of his films, and was declared a genius by many. In this English program you listen Chaplin be interviewed about his career and his life. This past weekend the AU review had the opportunity to sit in a media conference with UK's, Jon Hopkins, at Laneway Festival in Singapore. He talks about his definition of 'indie' music as being more "independently spirited music" and "music that's a little more messier and free". He discusses musicians he would like to collaborate with in the future such as Thom Yorke or Sigur Ros as well as who he would like to rework his material such like Flying Lotus. Jon talks his musical process, discussing that it is something that guides him rather than coming in with an intention whilst making music. the AU review asks Captured by Larry Heath, the AU review - 24th January 2015. http://www.theaureview.com/ http://www.facebook.com/theaureview http://www.twitter.com/theaureview SUBSCRIBE TO OUR CHANNEL FOR MORE MUSIC RELATED CONTENT! http://bit.ly/1wLM64S

The Examiner 2013-01-04Billy Bevan (born William Bevan Harris, 29 September 1887 – 26 November 1957) was an Australian film actor. He appeared in 254 American films between 1916 and 1950.
Bevan was born in the country town of Orange, New South Wales, Australia. He went on the stage at an early age, travelled to Sydney and spent eight years in Australian light opera. He sailed to America with the Pollard Opera Company in 1912 and later toured Canada. Bevan broke into films with the Sigmund Lubin studio in 1916. When the company disbanded, Bevan became a supporting actor in Mack Sennett movie comedies. An expressive pantomimist, Bevan's quiet scene-stealing attracted attention, and by 1922 Bevan was a Sennett star. He supplemented his income, however, by establishing a citrus and avocado farm at Recondido, California.
Usually filmed wearing a derby hat and a drooping mustache, Bevan may not have possessed an indelible screen character like Charlie Chaplin but he had a friendly, funny presence in the frantic Sennett comedies. Much of the comedy depended on Bevan's skilled timing and reactions; the famous "oyster" routine performed on film by Curly Howard, Lou Costello, and Huntz Hall—in which a bowl of "fresh oyster stew" shows alarming signs of life and battles the guy trying to eat it—was originated on film decades earlier by Bevan in the short film Wandering Willies.
