A famine is a widespread scarcity of food, caused by several factors including crop failure, overpopulation, or government policies. This phenomenon is usually accompanied or followed by regional malnutrition, starvation, epidemic, and increased mortality. Nearly every continent in the world has experienced a period of famine throughout history. Many countries continue to have extreme cases of famine.
Emergency measures in relieving famine primarily include providing deficient micronutrients, such as vitamins and minerals, through fortified sachet powders or directly through supplements. The famine relief model increasingly used by aid groups calls for giving cash or cash vouchers to the hungry to pay local farmers instead of buying food from donor countries, often required by law, as it wastes money on transport costs, but more importantly, it perpetuates the cycle of dependency on foreign imports rather than helping to create real local stability through agricultural abundance. Such independence however does rest upon local conditions of soil, water, temperature and so on.
Peste Noire is a black metal band from Avignon, France. It was founded by La sale Famine de Valfunde in 2000. La sale Famine has been the main member and creative force behind Peste Noire since its inception, and, to date, all songs (lyrics, music and solos) were written by La sale Famine (except "La Césarienne" on Folkfuck Folie and various piano/organ interludes on Ballade cuntre lo Anemi francor). The band offers a music which is in turn epic and melodic, sometimes more turbulent and aggressive, passionate and sorrowful and at times even openly sardonic. It always retains some degree of insanity and is generally raw, filthy and evocative of the atmosphere developed in France d'oïl in the Middle Ages. The band is sometimes referred to as P.N. or K.P.N (Kommando Peste Noire).
Massachusetts Institute of Technology, also known as MIT, is a private research university located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States. MIT has five schools and one college, containing a total of 32 academic departments, with a strong emphasis on scientific and technological education and research.
Founded in 1861 in response to the increasing industrialization of the United States, the institute adopted the European polytechnic university model and emphasized laboratory instruction from an early date. MIT's early emphasis on applied technology at the undergraduate and graduate levels led to close cooperation with industry. Curricular reforms under Karl Compton and Vannevar Bush in the 1930s re-emphasized basic scientific research. MIT was elected to the Association of American Universities in 1934. Researchers were involved in efforts to develop computers, radar, and inertial guidance in connection with defense research during World War II and the Cold War. Post-war defense research contributed to the rapid expansion of the faculty and campus under James Killian.
Norman Ernest Borlaug (March 25, 1914 – September 12, 2009) was an American agronomist, humanitarian, and Nobel laureate who has been called "the father of the Green Revolution". Borlaug was one of six people to have won the Nobel Peace Prize, the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Congressional Gold Medal. He was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, India's second highest civilian honor.
Borlaug received his Ph.D. in plant pathology and genetics from the University of Minnesota in 1942. He took up an agricultural research position in Mexico, where he developed semi-dwarf, high-yield, disease-resistant wheat varieties.
During the mid-20th century, Borlaug led the introduction of these high-yielding varieties combined with modern agricultural production techniques to Mexico, Pakistan, and India. As a result, Mexico became a net exporter of wheat by 1963. Between 1965 and 1970, wheat yields nearly doubled in Pakistan and India, greatly improving the food security in those nations. These collective increases in yield have been labeled the Green Revolution, and Borlaug is often credited with saving over a billion people worldwide from starvation. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1970 in recognition of his contributions to world peace through increasing food supply.
OK, I want to talk about Ireland
Specifically I want to talk about the "famine"
About the fact that there never really was one
There was no "famine"
See Irish people were only ALLOWED to eat potatoes
All of the other food
Meat fish vegetables
Were shipped out of the country under armed guard
To England while the Irish people starved
And then on the middle of all this
They gave us money not to teach our children Irish
And so we lost our history
And this is what I think is still hurting me
See we're like a child that's been battered
Has to drive itself out of it's head because it's fightened
Still feels all the painful feelings
But they lose contact with the memory
And this leads to massive self-destruction
ALCOHOLISM DRUG ADICTION
All desperate attempts at running
And in it's worst form
Becomes actual killing
And if there ever is gonna be healing
There has to be remembering
And then grieving
So that there then can be forgiving
There has to be knowledge and understanding
An American army regulation
Says you mustn't kill more than 10% of a nation
'Cos to do so causes permanent "psychological damage"
It's not permanent but they didn't know that
Anyway during the supposed "famine"
We lost a lot more than 10% of a nation
Through deaths on land or on ships of emigration
But what finally broke us was not starvation
BUT IT'S USE IN THE CONTROLLING OF OUR EDUCATION
School go on about "Black 47"
On and on about "The terrible "famine""
But what they don't say is in truth
There really never was one
So let's take a look shall we
The highest statistics of child abuse in the EEC
And we say we're a Christian country
But we've lost contact with our history
See we used to worship God as a mother
We're sufferin from POST TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER
Look at all our old men in the pubs
Look at all our young people on drugs
We used to worship God as a mother
Now look at what we're doing to each other
We've even made killers of ourselves
The most child-like trusting people in the Universe
And this is what's wrong with us
Our history books THE PARENT FIGURES lied to us
I see the Irish
As a race like a child
That got itself basned in the face
And if there ever is gonna be healing
There has to be remembering
And then grieving
So that there then can be FORGIVING
I can't see your face
And I can't breathe your air
So I wonder why I get cold inside
When I hear your name
When we meet eye to eye
I will ask how and why
And when guilt has it's way
One lesser reason to stay
And I will see her cry
Into the fire of our youth comes the devil again
And you feel your way, feel your way
Saw you standing nigh
In the corner
Told me that you had died
And I would die when my heart was empty
Become a ghost in perpetual void
(eleanor mcevoy)
An act of God has struck us
An act of faith sustains us
But it seems hopeless
And I feel helpless to you
An act of man has hit us
Worse than any god
And I can't shield you
And I can't shelter you,but
If you're in need of comfort
I will do what I can
If I can't feed your body
I'll soothe it with my hands
If I can't ease your hunger
I'll give you all I have
To nourish and love
To nourish and love
To nourish and love
The country drenched in fever
The"princess alice" leaves her
But I can't send you
And I can't hope to save you
The hunger on this island's
Spread to every door
And I can't shield you
And I can't shelter you,but
(music by pepa/galeon/cavestany, lyrics by galeon)
turning knot rotting in my gut
got me feeling so corrupt
like a second hand politician
i'm a study in malnutrition
every star i see i'm wishing
got a deathbed at 12th and mission
new kind of...
long ago once upon a time
hundred miles an hour time flew by
now gravestones become friends
practice voo doo superstition
like an archangel from heaven
got a deathbed at 12th and mission
in need of sleep we crawl the street
american dream gone
blood dirt money hustle and scheme
american dream gone
in need of sleep we crawl the street
american dream gone
blood dirt money hustle and scheme
american dream gone
mentally unfed
spiritually dead
the flock's been misled
new kind of wicked
turning knot rotting in my gut
got me feeling so corrupt
stomach's screaming deep inside
another day got no place to hide
in need of sleep we crawl the street
american dream gone
blood dirt money hustle and scheme
american dream gone
in need of sleep we crawl the street
american dream gone
blood dirt money hustle and scheme
american dream gone
in need of sleep we crawl the street
american dream gone
blood dirt money hustle and scheme
See the tears as they flow down their face
From the hunger that hit the human race
Can't understand why their lives must be this way
We can help them along
Without a drop of strength they force down the tears
Then again what have they done that is so wrong
We can make a difference Just help them along, along
To have to live in a place without a song
We can make a difference Just help them along, along
[CHORUS:]
We can help them along
With a little love from God
They can make it all the way
Without a drop of strength they force down the tears
Then again what have they done that is so wrong
We can make a difference Just help them along, along
To have to live in a place without a song
We can make a difference Just help them along, along
We can help them along
With a little love from God
Desire for the rotten
And greedy feeble flesh
Leads to raging battles
For one to concour death
Of life is all forgotten
Consuming but the dead
In quest for rotting meat
Starving blood is shed
Haunting weak flesh carrior
My life's revived by thee
Lurking in your nightmares
But sleep so your fangs won't grind
Your life is my salvation
Dread me on your own
There's no hope, there's no escape
You can't hide I'll hunt you down!
...And drought defeated rain
But none defeated pain
So man dissension driven
Drank the blood of long gone slain
Cannibal state awake
Mankind caress the stake
Reverent paying tribute
To the flesh....
Pour your tongue down my throat
And dig your fingers in my neck
And plant your thoughts upon my cheek
So that they can grow
And feed me later on
My tongue my cheek
Im talking tongue in cheek
But anyway i mean what i say
I mean what I say
when I say
Found in human likeness
And He reduced to the standards of the earth
In famine He dealt with sufferings
And in His deeds revealed His love and faith
And all selflessness
It's with His blood we bathe
To focus on the name of the Lord Jesus
The Son of God
And in fullness God Himself
He came to our filth
And died to our sins
Rising to consecrate glory
He rose us with Him from the abyss
Breaking our blackened deeds and intent
I turn feasts into mourning
And singing into weeping
I send famine through the land
And men search for a way to survive
Oh, starved to death...
With their last bit of strength
They will lay down on the dust
Just to die there
For this is what Thanis says about sons and fathers
"I will send the sword, famine
And the plagues against them
Until they are erased from this earth
I gave to them and their fathers"
Emaciated kids will sit around
Reeking and covered with flies
People will dry to skin and bones
Their bellies bloated by famine
Oh, starved to death...
With their last bit of strength
They will lay down on the dust
Just to die there
For this is what Thanis says about mothers and
daughters
"I will send the sword, famine
And the plagues against them
Until they are erased from this earth
I gave to them and their fathers"
For this is what he says
No one can be saved
No plague or disease
So she's crying and so she says to me
I've got bad news i'm having a baby
But there's nothing but dirt that i can see
So we're fucked cause we got nothing to eat
So for eight months we scrap and piss and pray
That this baby won't live a single day
And we barf, but i know it's the best way
Cause we're fucked cause we got nothing to eat
Please let me know you're my friend
Forgive us the mistakes we've made
Please let me know that you're down
Cause this baby, this body will keep us
So we're starving, her tummy's bustin' out
And the flood comes to wash away the ground
The rush of water and fear is the only sound
Cause we're fucked
Cause we got nothing to eat
Please let me know you're my friend
Forgive us the mistakes we've made
Please let me know that you're down
Cause this baby, this body will keep us
It just died
I did not kill it
It just died
