Subscribe to VICE News here: http://bit.ly/Subscribe-to-VICE-News On August 8, nearly three years after the United States pulled out of Iraq, President Barack Obama ordered airstrikes to commence on Islamic State positions in northern Iraq, as the group’s fighters advanced towards the Kurdish capital of Erbil. For six weeks prior to the strikes the Islamic State made stunning gains within Iraq, effectively dismantling the border with Syria and defeating the Iraqi army with little in the way to stop them. In the final installment of VICE News’ unprecedented look inside the Islamic State, reporter Medyan Dairieh journeys 200 miles from the the group’s power base in the Syrian city of Raqqa to the border with Iraq. There, after defeating the Iraqi army manning the checkpoint, Islamic State fighters work further to bulldoze the border. As they clear apart a barrier that divided Iraq and Syria, Islamic State fighters declare an end of the Sykes-Picot Agreement, a nearly 100-year-old pact between France and Britain that divided up the Middle East. For now, that area between Iraq and Syria is part of a new territory: the Islamic State. Prepare yourself for “The Snappening.” A huge database of Snapchat photos and videos maintained by a third party has been hacked, and many years’ worth of files are being distributed on 4chan. Users have dubbed it “The Snappening,” and 13 GB-worth of files (many of them explicit) are now available for anyone to view. The BBC points out that about half of Snapchat’s users are between the ages of 13 and 17, so there is justifiable concern that many of the leaked photos and videos will be of minors. It’s also important to note that the leak did not come from Snapchat itself; the company pointed out in a statement that: “Snapchatters were victimised by their use of third-party apps to send and receive Snaps, a practice that we expressly prohibit in our Terms of Use precisely because they compromise our users’ security. We vigilantly monitor the App Store and Google Play for illegal third-party apps and have succeeded in getting many of these removed.” The hack allows people to search the database by username, and appears likely to have emanated from the app SnapSaved (which no longer exists). It’s unclear if there will be more celebrities affected by this leak, but it serves as yet another cautionary tale about taking or sending any kind of compromising photograph on your phone. Belgium swears in new Prime Minister Charles Michel : Belgium\'s King Philippe has sworn in a new centre-right government, more than four months after the general election. It is led by French-speaking liberal Charles Michel, 38, who will be Belgium\'s youngest PM since 1841. The government is the first to include ministers from the separatist New Flemish Alliance (N-VA) party. It has vowed to cut government spending and balance the national budget. Belgium is notorious for long political deadlocks following elections. It took 541 days to form the country\'s previous, Socialist-led government.

On August 8, nearly three years after the United States pulled out of Iraq, President Barack Obama ordered airstrikes to commence on Islamic State positions in northern Iraq, as the group’s fighters advanced towards the Kurdish capital of Erbil.

Prepare yourself for “The Snappening.”

A huge database of Snapchat photos and videos maintained by a third party has been hacked, and many years’ worth of files are being distributed on 4chan.

It’s also important to note that the leak did not come from Snapchat itself; the company pointed out in a statement that:

“Snapchatters were victimised by their use of third-party apps to send and receive Snaps, a practice that we expressly prohibit in our Terms of Use precisely because they compromise our users’ security. We vigilantly monitor the App Store and Google Play for illegal third-party apps and have succeeded in getting many of these removed.”

The hack allows people to search the database by username, and appears likely to have emanated from the app SnapSaved (which no longer exists). It’s unclear if there will be more celebrities affected by this leak, but it serves as yet another cautionary tale about taking or sending any kind of compromising photograph on your phone.
