U-505 is a German Type IXC U-boat built for Nazi Germany's Kriegsmarine during World War II. She was captured on 4 June 1944 by United States Navy Task Group 22.3 (TG 22.3). Her codebooks, Enigma machine, and other secret materials found on board helped the Allied codebreakers.
All but one of U-505's crew were rescued by the Navy task group. The submarine was towed to Bermuda in secret and her crew was interned at a US prisoner-of-war camp where they were denied access to International Red Cross visits. The Navy classified the capture as top secret and prevented its discovery by the Germans.
In 1954, U-505 was donated to the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, Illinois and is now a museum ship.
She is one of six U-boats that were captured by Allied forces during World War II, and the first warship to be captured by U.S. forces on the high seas since the War of 1812. In her uniquely unlucky career with the Kriegsmarine, she also had the distinction of being the "most heavily damaged U-boat to successfully return to port" in World War II (on her fourth patrol) and the only submarine in which a commanding officer took his own life in combat conditions (on her tenth patrol, following six botched patrols).U-505 is one of four German World War II U-boats that survive as museum ships, and one of two Type IXCs still in existence, the other being U-534.

Science and Industry is a multiplayer, teamplay mod for the video game Half-Life. It is one of the oldest Half-Life mods and has been described as a classic one. The current version of the game is 1.2 beta 15, released on August 27th, 2015. The game was first publicly released on July 31, 1999, as version 0.94.
Players assume the role of a security guard for one of two fictional corporations Amalgamated Fluorodynamics (AFD) and Midland Carbide Labs (MCL).
The main objective on the standard map type is to capture enemy scientists (who are non-player characters) while defending your own. This is accomplished by locating your enemies research labs, hitting one of the scientists there over the head with your briefcase and then taking him back to your company's administrator.
Additional scientists increase the rate of a company's income which can be considered the team's score.
Scientists also research new weapons, implants, armor upgrades and devices for their company. Each time a new technology is completed, players vote for the next one to be researched.
The Museum of Science (MoS) is a Boston, Massachusetts landmark, located in Science Park, a plot of land spanning the Charles River. Along with over 700 interactive exhibits, the museum features a number of live presentations throughout the building every day, along with shows at the Charles Hayden Planetarium and the Mugar Omni Theater, the only domed IMAX screen in New England. The museum is also an accredited member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) and is home to over 100 animals, many of which have been rescued and rehabilitated from various dangerous situations. The museum is also one of the city's three bases of operations for Boston's privately operated Duck Tours.
The museum began as the Boston Society of Natural History in 1830, founded by a collection of men who wished to share scientific interests. It was more commonly called the Boston Museum of Natural History in the 19th century, and this name occurs frequently in the literature. In 1862, after the society had gone through several temporary facilities, a building was constructed in the Back Bay area of the city and dubbed the "New England Museum of Natural History." The museum was located next to the original Rogers Building of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and both neoclassical structures were designed by William G. Preston. The original MIT (then nicknamed "Boston Tech") building was demolished in 1939, but the Natural History Museum building survives today, as a home furnishings showcase.
This film takes a memorable look at World War II advanced anti-submarine operations. In June, 1944, Task Force "Guadalcanal," commanded by Captain Daniel V. Gallery, composed of the escort aircraft carrier USS Guadalcanal (CVE-60), and five destroyer escorts under the Commander Frederick S. Hall were on station off the Cape Verde Islands, where code intercepts placed German U-Boats. From the outset of the mission, Gallery made it his objective to capture a U-boat, intact, the first for the US Navy, so that it could be examined in detail by American intelligence. To that end, he developed specific tactics that led to the dramatic capture, on June 4th, of U-505, before she could be scuttled by here crew. How Gallery did it is the subject of this fascinating film that shows the operation as i...

Away Boarders -- the history of the USS Guadalcanal and the capture of the first German submarine U-505 in World War 2 by the U.S. Navy. The U-505 was the first enemy warship captured by the U.S. Navy on the high seas since 1815. "Away Boarders", United States Navy Report, P.S.L. 1945, 1953.
Just a little excerpt of the tour we took on the U-505 submarine. One of the best tours I've ever done and a lot has to do with your guide. Highly recommeded.
Here is some footage I took of the U505 at the Museum of Science and Industry. The U505 was captured by U.S. Naval forces during WWII. For 30+ years it sat outside, now it is indoors protected from the elements. Sadly no filming was allowed inside the Sub. The lighting is very low and the other side is even dimmer. All of this was hand held, so it's not rock steady by any means. The last time I was inside this sub I was 8 years old...so it's been 30 plus years.

This tour guy gives us an introduction before our group enters the sub. Unfortunately, filming was not permitted inside. This U-boat was captured by Americans exactly 40 years before I was born.
On June 4, 1944, a German submarine known as U-505 was prowling off the coast of West Africa on a hunt for American and Allied ships, when depth charges from the USS Chatelain blasted the dreaded U-boat out of hiding. On June 25, 2011, we visitied the amazing U-505 exhibit at the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry with my daughter & family, including 3 young children. It was a fabulous and touching experience. I hope if you are in the Chicago area you will take the time to visit this incredible and inspiring exhibit. The Keroman Submarine Base was a German U-boat base located in Lorient during World War II. Grossadmiral Karl Dönitz decided to construct the base on 28 June 1940. Between February 1941 and January 1942 three gigantic reinforced concrete structures were built on the Keroman peninsula. They are called K1, K2 and K3. In June 1940, the Lorient became the home of the 2nd U-boat Flotilla. Since they could not destroy the base and its submarine pens, the Allies had decided to flatten the city and port of Lorient to cut the supply lines to the U-boat bases. Without resupply of fuel, weapons (e.g. torpedoes), and provisions, it became impossible for those U-boats to return to war patrols in the Atlantic Ocean. Between 14 January 1943 and 17 February 1943, as many as 500 high-explosiv...
In this video, I detail a blog post that I found concerning German U-boats and how nasty they were. It was an entertaining and informative read. Unfortunately, the blog does not seem to be posting new material anymore. Do you know
Do you know
Do you know where ya gonna go?
If a DC-10 ever fell on your head
Laying in the ground all messy and dead
Or a Mack truck run over you
Or you suddenly die in your Sunday pew
Do you know where you're gonna go
It can happen any day
It can happen any way
It can happen while you're nappin' in your easy chair
Happen at home
Happen at school
Happen while you're scattin' like a scattin' fool
I say do you know where ya gonna go?
CHORUS
Do you know where you're gonna go
Do you know where you're gonna go
Do you know where you're gonna go
Straight to Heaven
Or down the hole?
CHORUS
747 fell out of Heaven
Crashed through the roof of a 7-11
You're working on a Slurpee
Things get hazy
Reach for the Twinkie now you're pushing up daisies
