Freeway is a 1996 crime film written and directed by Matthew Bright, starring Kiefer Sutherland, Reese Witherspoon and Brooke Shields.
The plot of this film resembles the fairy tale Little Red Riding Hood.
Vanessa Lutz is a poor, illiterate teenage girl living in the slums of Los Angeles. After her mother, Ramona, is arrested in a prostitution sting, she runs away with a stolen car from her social worker guardian to stay with her grandmother in Stockton. Along the way, Vanessa stops to see her boyfriend and classmate Chopper Wood, a local gang member to tell him about her excursion and he gives her a gun to sell upon arriving at her destination. Minutes after Vanessa leaves Chopper, he is killed in a drive-by shooting by rival gang members. A little later, Bob Wolverton, a serial killer and rapist known as "the I-5 killer", picks her up after her car breaks down, and promises to take her to her grandmother's house.
Over the long drive, Bob manipulates Vanessa into confessing to him the details of her painfully dysfunctional life, including a prostitute mother and a sexually abusive stepfather. At one point, Vanessa shows Bob a photo she keeps in her wallet of her biological father. (The photo used is actually a picture of mass murderer Richard Speck.) That evening, Bob eventually reveals his true nature and tries to kill Vanessa when she refuses to give in to him. The tables are turned, however, as Vanessa eventually pulls out her gun and shoots him several times before escaping.
You got a lot of money, but you can't afford the freeway
The road to Orange County leaves an awful lot of leeway
Where everyone's a doctor or a specialist in retail
They'll sell you all the speed you want if you can take the blackmail
You know it
I know it
Why don't you
Just show it?
You got a lot of money, but you can't afford the freeway
You got a lot of money, but you can't afford the freeway
You got a lot of money, but you cannot keep your bills paid
The sacrifice is worth it just to hang around the arcade
You found yourself a prophet, but you left him on the boardwalk
Another chocolate Easter bunny, hollowed out by your talk
You know it
I know it
Why don't you
Just show it?
You got a lot of money, but you can't afford the freeway
You got a lot of money, but you can't afford the freeway
And everything I do is wrong
But at least I'm hanging on
You got a lot of money, but you can't afford
You got a lot of money, but you can't afford
You got a lot of money, but you can't afford the freeway
You got a lot of money, but you can't afford the freeway
You got a lot of money, but you
Can't afford
You got a lot of money, but you
She throws her hair into the February breeze
She hears it singing through the branches of the trees
A song of something
She knows so well
And she's still looking for a freeway
She hears the sound of distant planes across the night
She catches a fleeting glimpse of fading red tail lights
Into tomorrow she gently sleeps
And she's still dreaming of a freeway
Far away, there's a piece of luck somewhere
Shining like a star in the night
Dream on lady, till the early morning light
Takes your dream to be free
Wanna see you in my rearview mirror
Out on the freeway freeway
Nobody said it would be easy
Freeway freeway
Take me back to _______________
I can't change the time and
I can't change your mind
But I gotta find a freeway
You're on my way
On my way
Leeway I need a little leeway
Got to get some space around and ??
Leeway leeway
Make the best of nothing left for me
I can't find the time
Gotta see what I can find
Out on the freeway
You're on my way
On my wayI'm not talking
Someday someday
I ain't waiting around for someday
Someday someday
I'm gonna get away from all this someday
I can't change the time and
I can't change your mind
You're on my way
On my way
Parked on the freeway, sippin' from a can
Parked on the freeway, fuck it man
Parked on the freeway, sippin' from a can
Parked on the freeway, he's our man
Yeah, he's our man
Don't burn the dog
Can you see me
In the garden
Watering flowers all night long
Taking care of what you neglected
And I do it with a happy song
Can you feel your guardian angel
Guiding you so patiently
And you wonder if you're in heaven
'cause you move so gracefully
Welcome tomorrow
Where we flow us gently
Didn't we know
Didn't we feel it
The time to seems to stop
Outside our window
And we ride, down the freeway
Hoping to express our religion
To be free
Of everything
With my friends, sitting around drinking
Talking about how life is much too long
How some days everything's just so right
And the next day everything just seems so wrong
Laughing while complaining
But having a good time
it didn't really matter
Welcome tomorrow
Where we flow us gently
At two O'Clock in the morning
The lights go on
It's time for us to go
And the last thing I can remember,
Was an angel guiding us right through the door
Yeah, Yeah
Laughing while complaining
But having a good time
it didn't really matter
it really doesn't matter
Welcome tomorrow
Where we flow us gently
Didn't we know
Didn't we feel it
The time to seems to stop
Outside our window
And we ride, down the freeway
Hoping to express our religion
Didn't we know
Didn't we feel it
The time to seems to stop
Outside our window
And we run down the freeway
Didn't we know
Didn't we feel it
How time it seems to stop
Outside our window
And we run, down the freeway
Hoping to express our religion
To be free, Of everything
Of everything, Yeah
Ain't been twelve a couple of hours
I'm on the freeway
Rain's so hard the sky's one color
The wettest coldest grey
Then she takes a look at me
I tell her it's o.k.
Driving around with her
She's taking trips on me
I'm taking trips on her
Left the sunset back in Venice
I was on the freeway
Say you love me or I'll kill us!
But you won't say it
Reach across the seat and push the bucket back all the way
Driving around with her
She's taking trips on me
I'm taking trips on her
I fell in love with her
I just don't mention it
To fall in love this much it's very dangerous
She makes me so jealous I want to kill us both...
Left the sunset back in Venice
I'm on the freeway
Say you love me or I'll kill us!
But you won't say it
Reach across the seatìpush the bucket back all the way
Driving around with her

How many times did you tell me to leave?
How many times did you leave me to freeze?
You live a dramatization
Your education seems to only come from TV I say
You live and breathe but your vision ain't clear
You can't believe everything that you hear
You got some misinformation
Your own creation the fantasy life you need I say
(CHORUS)
Everything that you thought you had
Was everything that you wish you had back
I'm on the freeway tonight
Everything that you had to give
Was everything that you needed to live
I'm on the freeway tonight
Everything that you thought was here
Was everything that could just disappear
I'm on the freeway tonight
Everything that was right in your face
Was everything that couldn't be replaced
I'm on the freeway tonight
But before I leave you there is something you should
know
All I ever wanted was to touch your empty soul
Everything I had I offered you a hundred times
The offer's off the table and now I'm floating high
How many roles can you play in a day?
How much stupid s*** can one girl say?
I think you need an ovation
A celebration celebrating me on my way I say
Now it don't seem that you're losing your cool?
You can't believe that I'm breaking your rules
This is a new revelation
A new vacation leaving you behind on the dock I say
(CHORUS)
But before I leave you there is something you should
know
All I ever wanted was to touch your empty soul
Everything I had I offered you a hundred times
The offer's off the table and now I'm floating high
My boys they tell me 'Wax you on a one way street'
Under construction Lovers Lane ain't quite complete
I should have woke up all the s*** you talk I had to
soak up
Heard your friends were bumping Scapegoat Wax
And now you're broke up
Your fake dramatics witch tactics soap operatics
Are even worse when they get cinematic
On my barometer floating so high I see Andromeda
Too hot for hot blew the red out the thermometer
I'm on the Freeway tonight

I got a freeway in mind,
Let go of my head,
Walk down my line,
Better be sure you'll be dead,
I got a trumpet,
I know where to dump it,
I'm glad that you came,
If the sound is the same.
Sometimes my reckless ways,
Shock my self system for days,
Now i'm channelling my faze,
In an anniston haze,
But it aint gonna do me in,
I know when to dump it,
A hole in my way again,
I'll surely just jump it.
There was a kid in a tree,
Among the birds and the bees,
Between bee hive and bird nest,
And i think you know the rest,
He wanted to be free with them,
But they weren't believing,
Pecking and stinging him,
Till he wasn't breathing,
But it ain't gonna do him in,
He'll just go to heaven,
Not done just a dreamer of ten or eleven.
I've got a freeway in mind,
Let go of my head,
Walk down my line,
Better be sure you'll be dead,
I got a trumpet,
[Freeway]
Man if I get rocked, this shit for my kids nigga
It's that real shit...
(female singer, repeated throughout the verses)
*Even though what we do is wrong...*
We still hustle 'til the sun come up
Crack a 40 when the sun go down
It's a cold winter
Y'all niggaz better bundle up
And I bet it be a hotter summer, grab a onion
Yes the ROC gets down, you hot now, listen up
Don't you know cops' whole purpose is to lock us down?
And throw away the key
But without this drug shit your kids ain't got no way to eat, huh?
We still try to keep Mom...smilin'...
Cuz when the teeth stop showin' and the stomach start growlin'
Then the heat start flowin'
If you from the hood I know you feel me (Jay-Z: Keep goin'...)
If a sneak start leanin' and the heat stop workin'
Then my heat start workin' I'm-a rob me a person
Catch a nigga sleepin' while he out in the open...and I'm-a get him (Jay-Z: Keep
flowin'...)
We gotta raise our kids while we livin'
Make a million off-a record bail my niggaz outta prison
Fuck a Bentley or a Lexus just my boys in the squadder
Nigga talk reckless then I hit 'em with the Smif 'n...
But I'm never snitchin' I'm a rider
If my kids hungry snatch the dishes out ya kitchen
I'll be wylin' til they pick me outta line-up...
We keep the nines tucked, chopped dimes up, rap about it
Wyle out, fuck niggaz up, laugh about it
I'm not tryin' to visit the morgue but Freeway move out 'til I sit with the Lord
'Til I...get my shit together, clean up my sins
Freeway got it in like 10 in the mornin'
And I can get it to ya like 10 while you yawnin' mang...
Still deliver the order mang!
And I ain't talkin' bout chicken and gravy mang!
I'm talkin' bout bricks 'o ye-yo, halves and quarters
4 and a halves of hash you do the math
Swing past us scoop up your daughter
She wanna roll wit' a thug that rap, you do the math
He won't blast 'til my stacks in order mang!
[Jay-Z]
...MANG! Lemme get 'em Free
Hove never slackin' mang, zippin' in the black Range
Faster than the red ghost, gettin' ghost wit' Pac-Mang
One-time know a got a knack to get that change
Leader of the black gang, R-O-C mang
Bang like T-Mac, ski mask air it out
Gotta kill witnesses 'cause Free's beard's stickin' out
Y'all don't want no witness shit, we squeeze hammers mang
Bullets breeze by you, like Lousiana mang...
But I gotta feed Tianna mang...
So I move keys you can call me the Piano Man
Rain...sleet, hail...snow man
Slang dough, E, hydro man...
[Beanie Sigel]
...no, B. Sige in the third lane
Gramps still prayin' workin on my nerves man...
Like, "Son you gotta get your soul clean...
Before they blow them horns like Coltrane..."
But still I cry tears of a hustler
Wipe tears from my mother, pull out beers for her brothers...
That's above us, make beds for the babies
Tuck kids under covers, buy cribs for their mothers
Shit I'll probably be wylin' with their fathers
Tell Ms. Robert, tell Enijah that I'm ridin' for her father
That's like my brother, like same mother different father
Any problems dog know I got 'em
And still we grind from the bottom
Just to make it to the bottom sold crack in the alleyways
Still gave back Marcy a Dollar Day
Real gangstas make hood holidays
They ain't thank us but we still paid homage mang
Soul Food Sunday lookin' like Big Momma's mang
Tell the gang I never break my promise mang...mang...unnh!

We run with this beef, we runnin his peeps
Like five in the mornin while they under them sheets (wake up)
Like five gats drawn, soldiers come out they sleep
Tell me what they gon' tell me when the gun out they reach
Homie, we ain't gotta cheat
Y'all ain't stopping Sig
Young Gunner startin p. guard from State Property
[Chorus]
I'm stuck here on the freeway
Traffic bad as hell and I miss your warm embrace
there's nothing on the radio
no-one in the car, just the promise of a long delay
The sun is disappearing
over the bend and the horizon sings a new song
The melody's familiar
sings into my soul and brings my heart right back to you
The moon is climbing higher
illuminate the sky, not a cloud in sight tonight
stars are winking at me
the traffic dissipates; now I'm speeding home to you
And I know when I arrive you'll be dressed and waiting
With the smell of cherry blossoms in your hair
And as I'm walking through the front door
and I see you standing there
I'll tell you, I've never loved you more than now
