Jalandhar is a city in Jalandhar District in the state of Punjab, India. It is located 144 km northwest of the state capital, Chandigarh. It was known as Prasthala at the time of the Mahabharta and as Jullundur in British India.

Jalandhar is another name of Lord Shiva. Jalandhar and Multan are the oldest surviving cities of the Punjab region, with historical references as far back as A.D. 100. The Jalandhar Doab (the region surrounding the city between the Beas and Sutlej rivers) also marked the easternmost territory of the empire of Alexander the Great. He erected giant altars in this area to mark the eastern most extent of his empire and also founded a city named Alexandria in the vicinity and left many Macedonian veterans there.^{[citation needed]}

In the 7th century, when theChinese traveller and pilgrim Hiuen Tsang visited India during the reign of Harsha Vardhana, the Kingdom of Jalandhara or Trigarta was under the rule of Raja Utito (whom Alexander Cunningham identifies with the Rajput Raja Attar Chand of the Katoch dynasty). The kingdom was said to have extended 167 miles (269 km) from east to west and 133 miles (214 km) from north to south, thus including the hill states of Chamba, Mandi and Suket (Himachal Pradesh) and Satadru or Sirhind in the plains. The city proper of Jalandhar was, when visited by Hiuen Tsiangg, a large city, miles in circuit, and functioned as the capital of a Rajput kingdom. Raja Utito was a tributary of Harsh Vardhana. The Rajput Rajas appear to have continued to rule over the country right up to the 12th century, with occasional interruptions, but their capital was Jalandhar and Kangra formed an important stronghold.^{[citation needed]}

Gippy Grewal (or Rupinder Grewal) is a Punjabi Singer and Actor.

He is a Jatt Sikh, born in village Koom Kalam, Ludhiana, Punjab on January 2, 1982. He was enrolled in a Hotel Management course prior to entering the Punjabi Music Industry.

He made is debut with the album "Chakk Lai" which went on to became an instant success and brought him into the limelight in the Punjabi Music Industry. He then went on to further his success with albums like "Nasha," "Phulkari," "Phulkari 2 Just Hits" and "Gangster." His 2012 song "Angreji Beat" a collaboration with Honey Singh for his album International Villager stormed the Punjabi Music Charts worldwide and is now featured in Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone's Bollywood film Cocktail that releases in July 2012.

He made his debut in Punjabi Films in a supporting role in 2010 with the superhit film Mel Karade Rabba opposite Jimmy Shergill and Indo-Canadian actress Neeru Bajwa. He followed that up with a lead role in Jihne Mera Dil Luteya with Diljit Dosanjh which became the biggest hit in Punjabi Cinema. In April 2012 his film Mirza - The Untold Story released with the highest opening for a Punjabi film opposite UK-Punjabi actress Mandy Takhar. His next movie Carry On Jatta pairs him with critically acclaimed Bollywood actress Mahie Gill, it releases in July 2012. He then joins forces with Jazzy Bains who will be making his Punjabi film debut in Best of Luck opposite Miss India Universe 2008 Simran Mundi.

Zareen Khan (born 14 May 1984) is an Indian actress and model who appears in Bollywood films. She made her acting debut in the 2010 period film Veer co-starring with Salman Khan. Khan has been noted for looks very similar to actress Katrina Kaif. Her recent Bollywood release, Housefull 2, has become a huge commercial success, as it was elevated to super hit status by Box Office India. Khan has also garnered recognition from her item number, Character Dheela, in the second highest grossing Bollywood film of 2011, Ready.

Khan was born to a Muslim, Pathan family, in Mumbai, on 14 May 1984. She speaks fluent Hindi, Urdu and Marathi. In college she weighed almost 100 kg (220 lb). Although she never planned to be a model, she began to focus on losing weight and getting into shape. In order to lose weight, she began to work out, eventually reaching her target weight. With no marketable skills, she tried her hand at modeling. Khan did a number of small assignments.

Khan's acting career began while visiting the set of Yuvraj at Subhash Ghai's film school Whistling Woods. Salman Khan noticed her and decided to cast her for his film Veer because, he said, "She looks the character — the sweet princess she is playing in Veer". After a screen test, Khan was given the role of Princess Yashodhara. She gained eight kilograms in order to be more convincing as a 19th century princess. Because of Veer's poor box office performance, Khan at first had trouble finding roles in big-budget films. In 2011, she made a cameo appearance in Anees Bazmee's Ready, parodying characters from Mughal-e-Azam, Sholay and Shri 420. She has also acted in her first major hit 2012 film Housefull 2 which is a blockbuster hit and she is also playing a role in the upcoming film Partner 2.

Jaswinder Singh Bains, more popularly known as Jazzy B, is a Punjabi language bhangra singer-songwriter. He was born on April 1, 1975 in Durgapur, Nawanshahrin tehsil of Jalandhar , Punjab, India. When he was 5 years old, his family moved to Vancouver, Canada. He now resides in Birmingham, England. He has released 12 studio albums, including two religious ones. He has collaborated on many tracks and two soundtracks.

In 2012 he will make his debut as an actor in the Punjabi Film titled Best of Luck with Punjabi Singer and Actor Gippy Grewal and Miss India Universe 2008 Simran Mundi.
