A shanty town (also called a squatter settlement) is a slum settlement (sometimes illegal or unauthorized) of impoverished people who live in improvised dwellings made from scrap materials: often plywood, corrugated metal and sheets of plastic. Shanty towns, which are usually built on the periphery of cities, often do not have proper sanitation, electricity or telephone services.
Shanty towns are mostly found in developing nations, or partially developed nations with an unequal distribution of wealth. In extreme cases, shanty towns have populations approaching that of a city. As of 2005[update], one billion people, one-sixth of the world's population, live in shanty towns.
Shanty may have derived from the Irish Gaelic seantigh, pronounced shant-tí, meaning "old house". The synonym shack may also have passed from Gaelic into English from teach, pronounced chaċ, meaning "house". Both words appeared in American English in the 1880s, when Irish migrants were flooding into New York's tenements.
Desmond Dekker (16 July 1941 – 25 May 2006) was a Jamaican ska, rocksteady and reggae singer-songwriter and musician. Together with his backing group, The Aces (consisting of Wilson James and Easton Barrington Howard), he had one of the first international Jamaican hits with "Israelites". Other hits include "007 (Shanty Town)" (1967) and "It Miek" (1969). Before the ascent of Bob Marley, Dekker was one of the most popular musicians within Jamaica, and one of its best-known musicians outside it.
He was born Desmond Adolphus Dacres in St. Andrew, Jamaica and grew up in Kingston, where he attended the Alpha Boys' School. After his mother took ill and died, his father moved him to St. Mary, and then to St. Thomas, where he apprenticed as a tailor before returning to Kingston and taking a job as a welder, singing around his workplace while his co-workers encouraged him. In 1961 he auditioned for Coxsone Dodd (Studio One) and Duke Reid (Treasure Isle). Neither was impressed by his talents, and the young man moved on to Leslie Kong's Beverley's record label, where he auditioned before Derrick Morgan, then the label's biggest star.
John Eric Longden (February 14, 1907 – February 14, 2003) was an American Hall of Fame jockey who was born in Wakefield, Yorkshire, England. His father emigrated to Canada in 1909, settling in Taber, Alberta. By 1912, Longden Sr. had saved enough money to send for his wife and young son to join him in Canada. However, the Longdens' train was late getting to the port of Southampton, and they missed their scheduled voyage to New York City on the Titanic. [1]
As a young man, Johnny Longden worked in the mining industry. His love of horses and horse-racing led him to leave Canada in 1927 to seek opportunities as a jockey in California's burgeoning racing scene. Based at Santa Anita Park, by 1956 he had become thoroughbred racing's winningest rider, breaking the record of 4,870 wins by British jockey Sir Gordon Richards (1904–1988). During his illustrious career, Longden, who was called "The Pumper" by his fellow jockeys because of his riding style, rode many of the great thoroughbreds of the day. In 1943, he captured the United States Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing winning the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness Stakes and the Belmont Stakes aboard Count Fleet. A sculptured bust of Longden, along with busts of fellow jockeys William Shoemaker and Laffit Pincay, has been placed in the paddock area at Santa Anita Racetrack in Arcadia, California.
Ken Boothe OD (born 22 March 1948, Denham Town, Kingston, Jamaica) is a Jamaican recording artist.
Ken Boothe was born in the Denham Town area of Kingston in 1948, the youngest of seven children, and began singing in school. His recording career began in the late 1950s when he formed a duo with his neighbour Stranger Cole as 'Stranger & Ken', the first tracks released by them being "Hush Baby" on the B-side of Cole's Island Records single "Last Love", and the "Thick in Love" single on R&B Records, both in 1963. They released several more popular singles between 1963 and 1965, including "World's Fair", "Hush", and "Artibella". Boothe also recorded as a duo with Roy Shirley (as Roy & Ken), releasing the "Paradise" single in 1966.
His first solo tracks were recorded in 1966 after Clement "Coxsone" Dodd had signed him to the Studio One Label. He also recorded material for Phil Pratt and Sonia Pottinger the same year. He had almost immediate success with songs like "The Train Is Coming" (on which he was backed by The Wailers) and "Lonely Teardrops" and by the following year, Boothe and Alton Ellis had a successful UK tour with the Studio One session group, The Soul Vendors. Boothe was promoted as "Mr. Rock Steady" by Dodd during this period. Boothe continued to record for Dodd until 1970, when he switched to Leslie Kong's Beverley's Records, where his success continued with hits such as "Freedom Street" and "Why baby Why".
Doris Day (born Doris Mary Ann Kappelhoff, April 3, 1924) is an American actress, singer, and animal rights activist. With an entertainment career that spanned through almost 50 years, Day started her career as a big band singer in 1939, but only began to be noticed after her first hit recording, "Sentimental Journey", in 1945. After leaving the Les Brown & His Band of Renown to try a solo career, she started her long-lasting partnership with Columbia Records, which would remain her only recording label. The contract lasted from 1947 to 1967, and included more than 650 recordings, making Day one of the most popular and acclaimed singers of the 20th century. In 1948, after being persuaded by Sammy Cahn, Jule Styne and her agent at the time, Al Levy, she auditioned for Michael Curtiz, which led to her being cast in the female lead role in Romance on the High Seas.
With a legendary Hollywood "girl next door" image, and capable of delivering comedy and romance as well as heavy drama, she appeared in 39 films, released 29 albums, spent 460 weeks in the Top 40 charts and eventually became one of America's most beloved entertainers. She received an Academy Award nomination for her performance in Pillow Talk, won three Henrietta Awards (World Film Favorite), a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, Presidential Medal of Freedom, Legend Award from the Society of Singers, Los Angeles Film Critics Association's Career Achievement Award and, in 1989, received the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement in motion pictures.

The whale song, but where's it coming from?
HAHAHAHAH
OOHH well my lad you've come aboard then!
You look as if you wanted a breath of sea air!
I want a fish.
Well you've got a lovely day for it!
Hahahaha!
Hold back, 300 metres port bow captain!
I can just see the whale coming out of the mist
They heard a gurgling sound
And the head of the
Whale
Rose above the surface of the water.
There's a whale, there's a whale
There's a whale fish he cried
And the whale was in full view
There's a whale, There's a whale
There's a whale fish's bow
And the whale was in full view
Whale fish, whale fish, whale fish
And the whale was in full view
There's a whale, there's a whale, There's a whale fish
And the whale was in full view
The huge fish emerged from the water,
It looked dreadful.
It was covered in mud and green weed.
You call that a whale?
AHH! What sorta fish are you?!
I'm not a real fish at all you stupid man.
What are you if you're not a fish?
You certainly look like a fish..
Well I certainly don't feel like a fish.
There's a whale, there's a whale
There's a whale fish he cried
And the whale was in full view
There's a whale, There's a whale
There's a whale fish's bow
And the whale was in full view
Whale fish, whale fish, whale fish
And the whale was in full view
There's a whale, there's a whale, There's a whale fish
And the whale was in full view
Just then he fell into the sea
whoops
Man overboard!
Do something fast!
Swim for it!
I.. I can't swim!
Can't swim! Well well, fancy that!
The lifeboat came to the rescue.
I've been shipwrecked
Well after being shipwrecked no doubt you'll be ready
for lunch!
When the fisherman got his breath back
they had a lovely picnic supper Of fish and chips
It was the best fish supper they'd ever tasted
It was
Delicious
There's a whale, there's a whale
There's a whale fish he cried
And the whale was in full view
There's a whale, There's a whale
There's a whale fish's bow
And the whale was in full view
Whale fish, whale fish, whale fish
And the whale was in full view
There's a whale, there's a whale, There's a whale fish
And the whale was in full view
Whales! Great creatures of the sea!
Please listen to me!
Whales, whales, whales, whales..
Whales, I am your friend
On the bed of the ocean
No doubt!
