Amarillo /æməˈrɪlɵ/ is the 14th-largest city, by population, in the state of Texas, the largest in the Texas Panhandle, and the seat of Potter County. A portion of the city extends into Randall County. The population was 190,695 at the 2010 census (105,486 in Potter County, and 85,209 in Randall). The Amarillo metropolitan area has an estimated population of 236,113 in four counties.
Amarillo, originally named Oneida, is situated in the Llano Estacado region. The availability of the railroad and freight service provided by the Fort Worth and Denver City Railroad contributed to the city's growth as a cattle marketing center in the late 19th century. Amarillo is the regional economic center for the Texas Panhandle, and is economically important to Eastern New Mexico and the Oklahoma Panhandle.
The city was once the self-proclaimed "Helium Capital of the World" for having one of the country's most productive helium fields. The city is also known as "The Yellow Rose of Texas" (as the city takes its name from the Spanish word for yellow), and most recently "Rotor City, USA" for its V-22 Osprey hybrid aircraft assembly plant. Amarillo operates one of the largest meat packing areas in the United States. Pantex, the only nuclear weapons assembly and disassembly facility in the country, is also a major employer. The attractions Cadillac Ranch and Big Texan Steak Ranch are located adjacent to Interstate 40. U.S. Highway 66 also passed through the city.
My baby never was the cheatin' kind
But it wasn't 'cause the ladies didn't try
Now everywhere we go they're walkin' 'round him slow
Givin' him a flutter and a sigh
Now I got him past that redhead in Atlanta
Lord, I walked all over that black-eyed Cajun Queen
But outside of Amarillo, he found his thrill, I'll tell you
Oh, I lost him to a jukebox and a pinball machine
Oh, Amarillo what you want my baby for?
Oh, Amarillo now he won't come home no more
You don't play a trick on me, hooked him in the first degree
He put another quarter, push Dolly and then Porter
While he racks up fifty thousand on the pinball machine
If we only hadn't stopped in there for coffee
If someone hadn't played the window up above
Oh, he'd still be mine today but he heard those fiddles play
One look and then I knew this must be love
Oh, that pinball machine's in the corner
Well, he saw the lights and he had to hear 'em ring
And he never was the same after he won his first free game
Oh, I lost him to a jukebox and pinball machine
Oh, Amarillo what you want my baby for?
Oh, Amarillo now he won't come home no more
You don't play a trick on me now you hooked him in the first degree
He put another quarter, push Dolly and then Porter

Oh, Amarillo what you want my baby for?
Oh, Amarillo now he won't come home no more
You don't played a trick on me, you hooked him in the first degree
He put another quarter, push Dolly and then Porter

The time has come, you're really leavin'
You always told me that you wanted to
I guess I never thought it would happen
I guess I never really wanted it to
The world is callin' you and you must answer
But you can take me with you in your dreams
And if you ever get back to Amarillo
In a shiny new car or worn out shoes
If you ever get back to Amarillo
I'll be waiting for you
Your sister told me you were working
At some office out in Tinseltown
But don't forget about those who love you
They'll be there for you if you get down
I believe in you in all you're after
I hope you end up where you wanna be
If you ever get back to Amarillo
In a shiny new car or worn out shoes
If you ever get back to Amarillo
I'll be waiting for you
Thirty years now have gone by quickly
I still think of you from time to time
My wife died early, I've got children
I'm happy and my health is fine
I often wondered if you found your freedom
I sometimes wonder if I should have gone
And if you ever get back to Amarillo
In a shiny new car or worn out shoes
If you ever get back to Amarillo
I'll be waiting for you
If you ever get back to Amarillo
In a shiny new car or worn out shoes
If you ever get back to Amarillo
I'll be waiting for you
I'll be waiting for you
When the day is dawning
on a Texas Sunday morning
How I long to be there
with Marie who's waitin for me there
Every lonely city
where I hang my hat
Ain't as half as pretty
as where my baby's at
(chorus)
Is this the way to Amarillo?
Every night I've been hugging my pillow
Dreaming dreams of Amarillo
and sweet Marie who waits for me
Show me the way to Amarillo
I've been weepin' like a willow
crying over Amarillo
and sweet Marie who waits for me
Sha la la la la la la la ...
And sweet Marie who waits for me
There's a church bell ringing
hear the sound of joy that its singing
For the sweet Maria
and the guy who's comin' to see her
Just beyond the highway
lies an open plain
And it keeps me going
through the wind and rain
The mountains are all
waiting
fullmoon has come.
I got lost on highways.
But don't ask me where I've been
or what I've done.
Oh Lord send me transmissions,
Forgive me for what I've become.
The sun has come save me.
Put a little love into my
lonely soul...
The sun has come to save me.
Put a little love into my
lonely soul...
Oh don't you know why
I need her loving you?

While I could not recall which Dalian imported
By the wrecks of 50, 000 on the pinball machine
If we only hadn't stopped in there for coffee
If someone hadn't played the window of the bug
He'd still be mine today but he heard those fiddles play

Oh, Amarillo, no I won't come home no more
You don't play the trick on me, hooked him in the first degree
While I could not recall which Dalian imported
By the wrecks of 50, 000 on the pinball machine
Oh, Amarillo, what you want my baby for?
Oh, Amarillo, now I won't come home no more
You don't play the trick on me, hooked him in the first degree
While I could not recall which Dalian imported
I can never say this right
But I want want these
words to be true.
I will always fight the fight
I will always sing for you.
Is this moment out of reach
Or the conversation done?
there's some things you'll never see
you're so beautiful.
I'm out of time
We're out of line.
Through the rain, and the snow
We're gonna make it.
We'll throw our hands, in the air
Cause we're gonna make it.
But are we alive?
Yes you're alive
Yes you're alive.
All the fields of America
How it burns into my heart.
And my courage will define
If I sing or fall apart.
You're the hardest dream to chase
you're the hardest dream to face.
you're the only chance I'll take
you're the only chance.
To break away, To break away.
And through the rain, and the snow
We're gonna make it.
We'll throw our hands, in the air
Cause we're gonna make it.
But are we alive?
Yes you're alive
Yes you're alive.
The fireflies are comin'out
So we're gonna make it.
In the wind, I feel a change
We're gonna make it.
But are we alive?
Yes you're alive
Yes you're alive.
There's a feelin' in my veins
And I feel it every day.
there's a feelin' that I chase
How it leaves me with
the sweetest taste, ooo
ooo oooo.
And through the rain, and the snow
We're gonna make it.
We'll throw our hands, in the air
Cause we're gonna make it.
But are we alive?
Yes you're alive
Yes you're alive.
The fireflies are comin'out
So we're gonna make it.
In the end I feel it's just that
We're gonna make it.
Are we alive?
Yes you're alive
Yes you're alive.
Still so much to see
Come and chase this dream
Sha, la, la, la, la, la, la, la
Sha, la, la, la, la, la, la, la
Sha, la, la, la, la, la, la, la
Just obey the safety rules
This is the way to cross the street now
Look both ways, direct your feet now
Wait for the green and never cheat now
Just don't forget the safety rules
Hold mummy's hand each time you're walkin'
Just be alert, not too much talkin'
Then the policeman won't be blocking
You must obey the safety rules
On a busy highway
Take my advice and do it my way
Please avoid the danger
Never ever talk to a stranger
In a busy city
There's so much to see
Don't go willy-nilly
Here's the way to be
This is the way to cross the street now
Look both ways, direct your feet now
Wait for the green and never cheat now
Just don't forget the safety rules, yeah
Hold mummy's hand each time you're walkin'
Just be alert, not too much talkin'
Then the policeman won't be blocking
You must obey the safety rules
When you hit the corner
Wait for mum and go and join her
Take her hand and hold it
Now you know because you've been told it
Cars can't always see you
When you cross their way
So before you sail through
Remember what I say
This is the way to cross the street now
Look both ways, direct your feet now
Wait for the green and never cheat now
Just don't forget the safety rules
Hold mummy's hand each time you're walkin'
Just be alert, not too much talkin'
Then the policeman won't be blocking
You must obey the safety rules
Sha, la, la, la, la, la, la, la
Sha, la, la, la, la, la, la, la
Sha, la, la, la, la, la, la, la
You must obey the safety rules
Sha, la, la, la, la, la, la, la
Sha, la, la, la, la, la, la, la
Sha, la, la, la, la, la, la, la
You must obey the safety rules
Ich bin weit gegangen,
aber ich blieb doch gefangen.
Unter fremden Sternen
musste ich, was Sehnsucht ist, lernen.
Irgendwo in Texas
gingen wir zu zweit.
Ich komm wieder, Mary,
ist auch mein Weg so weit.
Ich komm zur?ck nach Amarillo,
denn mein Herz blieb in Amarillo.
Eine weint in Amarillo,
my sweet Mary vergess ich nie.
Ich komm zur?ck nach Amarillo,
ich tr„um nur noch von Amarillo,
bald bin ich in Amarillo,
Sha la la .....
My Mary vergess ich nie.
Ich hab viele Sorgen,
dennoch freu ich mich auf morgen.
Stunden, die vergehen,
sagen, dass wir uns bald sehen.
Sonnenschein in Texas,
wenn ich vor ihr steh.
Ja dann sag ich Mary,
dass ich nie mehr geh.
Ich komm zur?ck nach Amarillo,
denn mein Herz blieb in Amarillo.
Eine weint in Amarillo,
my sweet Mary vergess ich nie.
Ich komm zur?ck nach Amarillo,
ich tr„um nur noch von Amarillo,
bald bin ich in Amarillo,
my sweet Mary vergess ich nie.
Sha la la .....
My Mary vergess ich nie.
