Great Refractor and Einstein Tower

Two historic telescopes on the Telegrafenberg with long scientific history

Amongst the points of historical interest at the Telegrafenberg, the buildings of the AIP - namely the solar observatory Einstein Tower and the Great Refractor - are particular public attractions due to their unique historic and scientific importance. The Astrophysical Observatory Potsdam (AOP), one of the predecessors of the AIP, was the first research institute located at the Telegrafenberg.

The Great Refractor is frequently opened to visitors by the AIP. Dates and hours are announced online and via local newspapers in Potsdam. The Einstein tower is still in use for scientific purposes and thus not open for public tours.
