Louis Brennan CB (28 January 1852 – 17 January 1932) was an Irish-Australian mechanical engineer and inventor.
Brennan was born in Castlebar, Ireland, and moved to Melbourne, Australia in 1861 with parents. He started his career as a watchmaker and a few years later was articled to Alexander Kennedy Smith, a renowned civil and mechanical engineer of the period.
Brennan invented the idea of a steerable torpedo in 1874, from observing that if a thread is pulled on a reel at an angle with suitable leverage, the reel will move away from the thread side. Brennan spent some years working out his invention, and received a grant of £700 from the Victorian government towards his expenses. He patented the Brennan Torpedo in 1877. The idea was trialled at Camden Fort near Crosshaven, Cork, Ireland.
Brennan went to England in 1880 and brought his invention before the War Office. Sir Andrew Clarke alerted the authorities to the possibilities of the torpedo if used in the defence of harbours and channels, and the patent was eventually bought for a sum believed to be more than £100,000. In 1887 Brennan was appointed superintendent of the Brennan torpedo factory, and was consulting engineer 1896–1907.
I don't know what I've done
Or if I like what I've begun
But something told me to run
And honey you know me it's all or none
There were sounds in my head
Little voices whispering
That I should go and this should end
Oh and I found myself listening
'Cos I don't know who I am, who I am without you
All I know is that I should
And I don't know if I could stand another hand upon you
All I know is that I should
'Cos she will love you more than I could
She who dares to stand where I stood
See I thought love was black and white
That it was wrong or it was right
But you ain't leaving without a fight
And I think I am just as torn inside
'Cos I don't know who I am, who I am without you
All I know is that I should
And I don't know if I could stand another hand upon you
All I know is that I should
'Cos she will love you more than I could
She who dares to stand where I stood
And I won't be far from where you are if ever you should call
You meant more to me than anyone I ever loved at all
But you taught me how to trust myself and so I say to you
This is what I have to do
'Cos I don't know who I am, who I am without you
All I know is that I should
And I don't know if I could stand another hand upon you
All I know is that I should
'Cos she will love you more than I could
She who dares to stand where I stood
I don't know what I've done

And honey you know me it's all or none
There were sounds in my head
LIttle voices whispering
That I should go and this should end

Calls him daddy, calls him man
Another girl that they call Britney
Johnny sits and mans the phones
From the corner, he'll come get you
She wakes in the cold gray dawn
Football games they make me yawn
Cellophane and stomach aches
Pillow talk and perfume breaks
A married man with an estate
A hairdresser that swears he's straight
Her alimony is once a month
She beats the kid, he plays the drums
And oh, oh, oh, life goes by
With your Mardi Gras high
And your tenderloin low
Second hand blues and money to blow
When you get tired and arrested
There's something you should know
At least he's going home
The undercover makes the bust
But not before he gets a touch
Good ones copy, great ones steal
The rest of us we almost feel
And oh, oh, oh, life goes by
With your Mardi Gras high
And your tenderloin low
Second hand blues and money to blow
When you get tired and arrested
There's somewhere you can go
Between the blue and gold
He's gonna get a pension
Eleven years go to
The world's oldest profession
Ain't never gonna fold
With fortunes being told
With your Mardi Gras high
And your tenderloin low
Second hand blues and money to blow
When you get tired and arrested
There's something you should know
And I
Will close my eagle eyes
Hang up my skin to dry
We were wasted son
We were wasted all
On the ride
From the nightclub
To our drive
All the way we sank
And from
The flat above the square
We watch our comrades bare
Their teeth, their souls, their flesh
We were wasted son
We were wasted all
On the ride
From the nightclub
To our drive
