A silent film is a film with no synchronized recorded sound, especially with no spoken dialogue. In silent films for entertainment the dialogue is transmitted through muted gestures, pantomime and title cards. The idea of combining motion pictures with recorded sound is nearly as old as film itself, but because of the technical challenges involved, synchronized dialogue was only made practical in the late 1920s with the perfection of the audion amplifier tube and the introduction of the Vitaphone system. After the release of The Jazz Singer in 1927, "talkies" became more and more commonplace. Within a decade, popular widespread production of silent films had ceased.
The first projected primary proto-movie was made by Eadweard Muybridge some time between 1877 and 1880. The first narrative film was created by Louis Le Prince in 1888. It was a two-second film of people walking in Oakwood streets garden, entitled Roundhay Garden Scene. The art of motion pictures grew into full maturity in the "silent era"(1894-1929) before silent films were replaced by "talking pictures" in the late 1920s. Many film scholars and buffs argue that the aesthetic quality of cinema decreased for several years until directors, actors, and production staff adapted to the new "talkies".
A Silent Film is a 4 piece alternative rock band from Oxford England. The band consists of Robert Stevenson (vocals/piano), Karl Bareham (guitar), Ali Hussain (bass) and Spencer Walker (drums). Their first album, 'A City That Sleeps', was released on October 6, 2008. with reviewers describing it as 'a surefire winner'.
Critics have compared A Silent Film to Coldplay, Snow Patrol and The Killers.
The band formed in 2005. Two of the four members (Robert Stevenson & Spencer Walker) had been members of another band named Shouting Myke, which formed in early 2000. In 2005 two members (Benn Clarke and Steve Meyer-Rassow) left the band and were replaced by Ali Hussain. The newly-formed band chose the name 'A Silent Film' after the lead singer, Robert Stevenson, wrote a song using the melody from a song from a Charlie Chaplin film; the band agreed they liked the style and chose the name as a reference to Charlie Chaplin's many silent films.
The band released their first single in 2007, an EP titled 'The Projectionist'. They performed on the BBC Introducing Stage at Glastonbury in 2007 and their first album, The City That Sleeps, was released in October 2008.
Pola Negri (3 January 1897 – 1 August 1987) was a Polish stage and film actress who achieved worldwide fame for her tragedienne and femme fatale roles from the 1910s through the 1940s during the Golden Era of Hollywood film. She was the first European film star to be invited to Hollywood, and became a great American star. She also started several important women's fashion trends. She is known for being one of the most popular stars of the silent film era, and her varied career included work as an actress in silent and talking films, theater, and vaudeville; as a singer and recording artist; as an author; and as a ballerina.
Negri was born Apolonia Chalupec (or Chałupiec) according to her birth record and autobiography in Lipno, Vistula Land, Russian Empire (present-day Poland). She was the youngest of three children, but because the first two died young, she grew up as an only child. Her mother, whose maiden name was Eleonora Kiełczewska, was reportedly impoverished Polish royalty, and her father, Jerzy Chalupec, was a Slovak immigrant tinsmith. After Chalupec's father was arrested by the Russian authorities for revolutionary activities and sent to Siberia, she and her mother moved to Warsaw, where they lived in extreme poverty.
Sir Isaac Newton PRS MP (25 December 1642 – 20 March 1727 [NS: 4 January 1643 – 31 March 1727]) was an English physicist, mathematician, astronomer, natural philosopher, alchemist, and theologian, who has been "considered by many to be the greatest and most influential scientist who ever lived." His monograph Philosophiæ Naturalis Principia Mathematica, published in 1687, lays the foundations for most of classical mechanics. In this work, Newton described universal gravitation and the three laws of motion, which dominated the scientific view of the physical universe for the next three centuries. Newton showed that the motions of objects on Earth and of celestial bodies are governed by the same set of natural laws, by demonstrating the consistency between Kepler's laws of planetary motion and his theory of gravitation, thus removing the last doubts about heliocentrism and advancing the Scientific Revolution.
Joel David Coen (born November 29, 1954) and Ethan Jesse Coen (born September 21, 1957) known together professionally as the Coen brothers, are American filmmakers. Their films include Blood Simple, Fargo, The Big Lebowski, O Brother, Where Art Thou?, No Country for Old Men, and True Grit.
The brothers write, direct and produce their films jointly, although until recently Joel received sole credit for directing and Ethan for producing. They often alternate top billing for their screenplays while sharing film credits for editor under the alias Roderick Jaynes.
Joel and Ethan Coen, of Jewish heritage, grew up in a Jewish community in St. Louis Park, Minnesota, a suburb of Minneapolis. Their father, Edward, was an economist at the University of Minnesota, and their mother, Rena, an art historian at St. Cloud State University.
When they were children, Joel saved money from mowing lawns to buy a Vivitar Super 8 camera. Together, the brothers remade movies they saw on television with a neighborhood kid, Mark Zimering ("Zeimers"),[citation needed] as the star. Their first attempt was a romp titled, Henry Kissinger, Man on the Go. Cornel Wilde's The Naked Prey (1966) became their Zeimers in Zambia, which also featured Ethan as a native with a spear.

Well the school bell rings
I carried your things
Getting on the yellow bus
With the whole world watching us
And our love was like a silent movie
Ain't got nothing to say
Our love was like a silent movie
I wish we could have kept it that way
Now the door bell rings
I'm gonna get my things
Take another bright (? )
At the lion's side
Cause our love was like a silent movie
Ain't got nothing to say
Our love was like a silent movie
That's the all-american way
Silent movie
And our love was like a silent movie
There's nothing to say
Our love was like a silent movie
And that's the all-american way
And our love was like a silent movie
There's nothing to say
Our love was like a silent movie
I wish we could have kept it that way
Our love was like a silent movie
Silent movie
Our love was like a silent movie
We're in a picture black and white
Who took the light out of my life
When you, gave in
We're playing out of different roles
We should be wanting the same goals
Listening, forgiving
Oh, why can't we communicate
When the main feature is just begining
In the silent movie there's no talking
You're just an actor
So break into my story
Take it over
Paint me with colour
Everybody's speaking, but you don't know what they're saying
You're jus guessing meanings
Interpreting emotion through a window that is broken
We're jus testing feelings
Oh, why can't we communicate
When the main feature is just begining
In the silent movie there's no talking
You're just an actor
So break into my story
Take it over
Paint me with colour
Step into the movie, you can be my leading man
Break into the silence, so your heart can understand
Step into the movie, we could walk along the sand
Let me stand beside you, put ur life into my hand
Don't you know you love me, like you never love yourself
Don't you know you love me, like you never love yourself
Don't you know you love me, like you never love yourself
Don't you know you love me, like you never love yourself
In the silent movie there's no talking
You're just an actor
So break into my story
Take it over
Paint me with colour
In the silent movie there's no talking
You're just an actor
So break into my story
Take it over
Surface, take to the breeze
Offhand misdeeds
Prudent motherly eye has passed me by
Build on all of your guards
Hopeless die hard
Crawling low on all fours
Resolve my scores
Vacant taste in your mouth
Deuces, fallout
Silent silhouette
You give, you get
Triggered break to the head
We've been misled
Keep up fast as you can
On false commands
And I don't want to believe
You put me up for release
But I just want some peace
(Gullahorn/Noel)
I was lost and wandering desperate for someone to guide me.
You had no words to say – just started walking beside me.
Sometimes the best advice is better seen than heard like a silent movie talking without words.
When I came for help again.
Some wisdom that I could borrow.
You still had no words to give only footsteps to follow.
Like a silent movie speak into the eyes.
Paint the world a window and show them what’s inside.
Sometimes the best advice is better seen than heard like a silent movie talking without words.
Just like some guy I knew in some book I read somewhere always had something to do to show that he cared.
Can anyone read me the signs?I think I'm going blind.
We're headed to the Emerald City.
I've heard it's a very good time.
Somebody change the station.
That song reminds me of graduation,
when all of the girlfriends
Lied to their boyfriends in the say,
'Bye-bye.'
'I'll love you forever and always,
And every day in between.
I'll wait here at the end of the hallway,
Forever, whatever that means.'
Somebody whispered it to me,
And the day flew by like a silent movie,
When all of the boyfriends
Lied to their girfriends in the say,
'Bye-bye.'
'I'll love you forever and always,
And every day in between.
I'll wait here at the end of the hallway,
Forever, whatever that means.'
Can anyone read me the signs?
I think I'm going blind.
We're headed to the Emerald City.
I've heard it's a very good time.
Bye-bye.
