"Utah likely to debate new amendment after gay-marriage ban falls," (Oct. 7) is a shocking portal into the perspectives of conservative political leaders on issues of social equality. Of all the insults to Utah’s status as a free and open society contained in the article, a quote from Sen. Orrin Hatch stands out: "You can’t even begin to think of all the things the LGBT community can come up with to demand certain privileges and rights."
Just what kind of civil and human rights, aside from those recently affirmed by the federal judicial system, does Sen. Hatch feel are unrealistic for people any class to expect?
